KILGORE - Funeral services for Marilyn Prothro, 59, of Kilgore, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Road with Chaplain Larry Tyler officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Forest Park cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana with the Rev. Tom Logan officiating. Mrs. Prothro passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at her residence in Kilgore.
She was born February 16, 1945, in Dickinson, Texas to Charles and Anita Carona who preceded her death. She had lived in Kilgore since 2002 and was a retired self employed Insurance Agent. She was a member of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Prothro of Kilgore; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Craig Lee of Conroe, Texas; son Ronnie Marshall of Tomball, Texas; three grandchildren, Kayla Henderson, Lauren Henderson and Cody Lee; step-son, Jason Prothro of Shreveport, Louisiana; one brother Charles Carona of San Antonio, Texas.
The family wishes for memorial donations to be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Society.

Roy Alwin Seelbach
TEXAS CITY - Roy Alwin Seelbach, 79, of Texas City passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Texas City, Texas. Roy was born to Jesse and Allie Seelbach on the 29th of July, 1924, while they were away from their native Texas on a logging job in Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his partner in a 50 year marriage, Mozelle Nicholson Seelbach, his parents, his brother William F. (Bill) Seelbach, and a sister, Polly Seelbach.
Roy loved his family, his country, his friends, a good laugh, and a good meal as well as any man that ever lived.
Roy worked for many years as an independent trucker hauling topsoil, sand and shell throughout Galveston County. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was veteran of the U.S. Army and participated in the invasion of France and the Battle of the Bulge while serving under General George Patton in the Artillery Corps during WW II. He was a proud 32- year member of the Texas City American Legion 89.
Roy is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Brenda Seelbach of La Porte, and Curtis and Joan Seelbach of Texas City; sisters Hazel Acklen of League City and Helen Parker and husband Merle of Pasadena; seven grandchildren Tiffanni Seelbach and her husband Michael "Cotton" Cochran, Shelby Seelbach, Whit Seelbach and his friend Tara Hart, Shawn Seelbach and his wife Sarah, Jesse Seelbach, Abby Calhoun and her husband Charlie, and Andy Seelbach; and six great grandchildren, Amanda Compton, Stephen Seelbach, Presley Cochran, Christopher Seelbach, Stephanie Seelbach and Sophie Seelbach.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21, 2004, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ronnie Mills, officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Shelby Seelbach, Michael (Cotton) Cochran, Whit Seelbach, Jesse Seelbach, Andy Seelbach and Charlie Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers are Shawn Seelbach, Ronald Todd, and Herman (Buddy) Hilden.

Sonja Dagny Andersson
TEXAS CITY - Sonja Dagny Andersson died Sunday, July 18, 2004, with her devoted friend Georgybel LeGendre at her bedside. Sonja was born in Sweden, where she went through four years of nursing education. Sonja worked there until 1954, when she went to Korea with the Red Cross, under the U.S. 8th Army. While there she was promoted to Captain. After returning to Sweden she then came to Galveston in 1957 and made many friends there and in Texas City, where she lived since 1959. Sonja retired from UTMB in 1982. Sonja and Georgybel traveled to many interesting places here in the U. S. and overseas.
Sonja is preceded in death by her parents Thure and Elisabeth Andersson, two sisters Thyra Althen and Britta Rhodin. Sonja is survived by her nephew Jan Althen and wife Ulla and their son John Althen and wife Joanne and son Ian in Middletown, Connecticut; also nieces in Sweden. Sonja’s many friends will miss her, but all have fond memories.
A visitation will be Thursday, July 22, 2004, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the funeral home with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque with Rev. Mifflin Dove officiating. Sonja’ s ashes will be put in her Texas family’s plot in the La Marque cemetery.

Velma "Jean" Letsos
HOUSTON - Velma "Jean" Letsos, 70, formerly of Galveston, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2004, at her home in Houston following a one year battle with a brain tumor. She was born December 15, 1933, in Galveston, Texas to Anthony and Phala Stjepcevich and was their only child. She graduated from Dominican High in Galveston.
Survivors include her husband of 51years, Eugene Letsos; their children Linda Weiler and husband Don, Roxane Emmott and husband Kerry, Tracy Baker and husband Mike, Eugene Letsos, Jr. and wife Nancy, and Mike Letsos and wife Denise; 14 grandchildren (7 boys and 7 girls), Kendell Emmott, Hailey Letsos, Taylor Baker, Lauren Letsos, Mikey Letsos, Landon Weiler, Brooks Weiler, Mason Weiler, Madison Letsos, Hallie Baker, Nick Letsos, Hunter Emmott, Canyon Emmott, and Gains Baker. Other survivors include 3 aunts, Mrs. Louise Bauer of Port Lavaca, Mrs. Mary Alexander of Texas City, and Mrs. Dorothy Alexander of San Antonio.
Pallbearers will be five of her grandsons, Landon Weiler, Brooks Weiler, Mason Weiler, Hunter Emmott, and Nick Letsos.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the "Ladies of the Landing" in Cinco Ranch for their continued support and prayers during these trying times. Extra thanks go to Mrs. Sue Cantini for all the time and energy she spent to make Jean comfortable and strong during her illness. It will not be forgotten.
Visitation will be at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer at Dairy Ashford on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Forest Park Westheimer chapel with Rev. Msgr. Jack Dinkins officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale cemetery.

GALVESTON – Anthony Lee Mendez, 39, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Gulf Health Care in Texas City.
Anthony was born June 16, 1965 in Galveston, Texas. He was a cook by trade. Anthony enjoyed fishing, using computers, and spending time with friends at the Kettle restaurant in Galveston. Anthony was of the Christian faith.
preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Rosario Mendez, Anthony is survived by his brothers John Mendez of San Jose, California, Michael Mendez of Galveston, Richard Mendez of Bacliff, and Stephen Longoria of San Jose; sisters Olga Poole of San Jose, and Christina Cabrera and husband Louis of San Jose.

Charles Frank Head
SANDIA - Charles Frank Head, 88, passed away July 17, 2004, in an Alice, Texas hospital. He was born June 10, 1916 in Bristol, England to Charles and Flora Head. He was a retired general contractor and a former longtime resident of Galveston. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Galveston, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Galveston County Contractors Association.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Edna Head of Sandia, Texas; two daughters, Christine Staley of Portland, Oregon and Karrie Head of Denver, Colorado; one son, Jeffrey (Kathy) Head of Sandia; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice, Texas.

TEXAS CITY - Christopher Alan Briney, 24, of Texas City, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Santa Fe, Texas, as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Casey officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2004, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Briney was born May 19, 1980 in Texas City. He was an operator for Valero.
Survivors include his father Alan Briney; mother Barbara Briney; grandmother Mildred Briney; girlfriend Lori Erskine; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
