Betty E. Schmidt
Betty E. Schmidt, 77, of Friendswood, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004, in Beeville, Texas. Betty was born July 17, 1926, in Galveston to Sam and Betty Savage. Betty worked for Southwestern Bell for 27 years, was a former receptionist at Mary Queen Catholic Church and loved her kids more than life itself. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Mary L. "Sissie" Bivens.
Betty is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Mrs. Sherry L. and Charles Huffman of La Marque, Mrs. Lisa A. and Robert Kaul of Beeville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. Charles "JJ" and Cami Schmidt, Jr. of Rosenberg, Mr. Walter M. and Jennifer Schmidt of Rosharon; sisters Mrs. Linda G. Hartsook and husband, Dave of Friendswood and Mrs. Barbara J. Moses of Phoenix, Arizona; twelve grandchildren, Mrs. Brandi L. Ricicar, Jr. and husband, Earl, Chad D. Huffman, Kyle J. Schmidt, Ryan L. Pueblo, Tarin J. L. Schmidt, Jeffrey M. Schmidt, Michael J. Schmidt, Destiny F. Allen, Andy F. Scott, Jr., Dawn E. Kaul, Logan N. Scott and Robbie D. Kaul; two great-grandchildren Lacey L. Ricicar and Haley G. Ricicar; aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, July 18, 2004, from 5 PM until 9 PM, with a vigil at 7 PM, with Msgr. T. Joseph Culver, and a rosary to follow with Mr. Otto Kissinger, at the chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Home in LaMarque. Funeral mass will be Monday, July 19, 2004, at 10 AM, at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in LaMarque, with Father Phil "Skip" Negley, M.S. officiating and Deacon Jim Bonura assisting. Internment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock with Deacon Jim Bonura officiating.
Pallbearers will be Chad P. Huffman, Earl G. Ricicar, Jr., Kyle J. Schmidt, Jeffrey M. Schmidt, Andy F. Scott, Jr., Robbie D. Kaul, Robert D. Kaul and Charles D. Huffman. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave L. Hartsook and Ryan L. Pueblo.

Calvin Kay "Cobb" Wagner, 78, of Webster, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Clear Lake Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas. Mr. Wagner was born November 16, 1925, in Moulton, Texas. He was retired from G. H. Towing Company and served in the U. S. Army.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kay Pascal Wagner and his mother, Anna Wagner; his brothers, Cyrus, James and Pascal Wagner; his sister, Whirly Hogue.
Survivors include his wife of 41years, Barbara Wagner; his daughter; Lisa R. Wagner-Lyons and husband, Jay Lyons; his sons, Calvin Wagner Jr., and John L. Kenney; his sister Joann Chenewerth; his grandson, Cody Kenney (his buddy) and grand-daughter, Madison Lyons (Lil’ Fritzi), numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Wienhausen, Dale Richard, Bill Darley, Larry Konzelman, Jason Chenewerth and Louis Cascarelli.

SAN LEON, TEXAS – William M. "Bill" Cox passed away at his home on July 15, 2004. Bill was born September 22, 1924, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Fred and Hattie Cox.
He joined the U. S. Navy at the age of 17 and retired after 20 years of service in World War II, Korean War, North Vietnam and other conflicts. He was a life member of V. F. W. Post 6378 Dickinson and retired from Painters Local #585 in Texas City.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 18, 2004, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas with Mr. John Collins officiating with interment to follow at San Leon cemetery, San Leon, Texas with military honors. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. till service time.
Surviving Bill is his daughter, Carolyn Cox Channell and her husband, Bill; granddaughter, Kacie Channell, all of Murrieta, California; and his sister, Marie Tapp of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Preceding Bill in death was his parents, Fred and Hattie Cox; his daughter, Billie Ann Cox; three brothers, Neal, Phillip, killed in World War II and Paul Cox; and his sister, Lucille Cox.

LA MARQUE - Mrs. Ada Hill Willis Demerson entered her eternal rest on Monday, July 12, 2004, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.
Ada was born April 12, 1923, in Galveston, Texas to the late Fred and Gladys Hill Willis. She graduated from Central High School and received certifications from Franklin Beauty School, Henrietta School of Cosmetology and a California State Cosmetology License; B.S. and M.A. Degrees from Prairie View A&M University, and M.A., Texas Southern University. She taught school in Abilene, Texas and La Marque, retiring as a Kindergarten Teacher. She was also co-founder of the Tiny Tot Kindergarten.
During her formative years, Ada was a member of Avenue L Baptist Church in Galveston. She later united with McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church where she diligently served with dignity as secretary of the Usher Board, past president and treasurer of the United Methodist Women and a member of Carter Circle #2. Her fraternal and community affiliations include: Pride of La Marque Court #457 of Calanthe, Receiver of Deposits for many years; Khyyam Tent #34 Princess of Omar - D.O.K.O.; the Ecumenical Prayer Partners Hall of Fame; Texas City-LaMarque Retired Teachers Association and the Jackson Street Neighborhood Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Napoleon Demerson; two sisters, Mary Louise Smith and Theodessa Mayfield; three nephews; one great-nephew; one niece; two aunts, Gussie M. Lewis and Clara Mae Armstead; six cousins and step-father, Robert "Bob" Johnson.
Left to cherish her most precious memories are a loving, devoted and caring niece and nephew, Evonne Marie and Marion Tompkins of La Marque; god-children, Gregory J. Smith of Los Angeles, California, Quinette Smith-Solomon of Webster and Lance Pointer of La Marque; nephews and nieces, Lawrence R. Smith, Tacuma Shareef, Deporah L. Smith, Pamela A. Smith all of Houston; aunt, Mrs. Theodessa Sutton of Los Angeles, California; devoted cousins, Irene and Johnnie Young and Floretta and Andrew Laws of Galveston; half-brother, Rev. James P. "C.B." was born September 25, 1928, in Paduka, Texas to Cleveland and Effie Williams Washington.

Mrs. Perseverance was born September 9, 1919, in Galveston, Texas to the late Howard, Sr. and Corine Boone Carter. She was a member of Carter Temple CME Church; and was a local beautician in Galveston before moving to New York where she retired from New York Hospital.
Mrs. Perseverance peacefully departed this life Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lela Thompson, Gladys Maney, Mildred Carter, Ethel Lee Toliver and Dorothy Williams; and brother, Howard Carter, Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are her devoted cousin and caretaker whom she loved as a daughter, Sherman Boyer of Galveston; devoted cousin, Georgia Sanders of Galveston; sister-in-law, Eloise Carter of Tuskeegee, Alabama; caregivers, Amelia McGill, Vanessa Turner and Ruthie Winston; other family members and friends.

GALVESTON - Visitation for Mr. Rufus Pete, Sr. will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004. Mr. Pete was born November 30, 1933, in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to Elder Leroy Pete and Ada Lee Pete. He attended school in Lake Arthur and later enlisted in the US Army. He was a former longtime resident of Fort Worth where he was self employed for many years.
Mr. Pete went home to rest on Monday, July 12, 2004, at the Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in Webster after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leroy Pete, Jr.
