William "Billy" Mitchell III
William "Billy" Mitchell III, 72, of Santa Fe, Texas passed away July 11, 2004. He was a veteran Marine of the Korean War and an instrument tech for 34 years with Monsanto/Sterling.
Billy was preceded in death by his father, William Mitchell, Jr., his mother, Henrietta Thompson Mitchell, and step-father, Harold Sisson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Pond Mitchell of Santa Fe, Texas; his children, William B. Mitchell IV and wife, Joanne of Santa Fe, Texas, Timothy Mitchell and his wife, Irene of Slidell, Louisiana, Joe Mitchell and his wife, Reyes of Texas City, Texas, Doug Mitchell of Santa Fe, Texas and their mother, Pauline Hoggard Myers; step-children, Charles Southworth of Portland, Oregon, Corine Hendricks and her husband, Ed of Manvel, Texas, and Regina Southworth of Denton, Texas; his brothers and sisters, Robert Sisson and his wife, Cathy of The Woodlands, Texas, Harold Sisson of Beaumont, Texas, and Jo Ellen Cashion and her husband, Jerry of Niceville, Florida; 10 grandchildren;1 great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home in Friendswood, Texas. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at 10 a.m. at First Church of Pearland, 1850 Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581, with Reverend B. V. Barnett and Reverend Leon Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at South Park cemetery in Pearland, Texas.

Joe Anthony "Tony" Guarnelo
Joe Anthony "Tony" Guarnelo, 67, passed away, Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Galveston, with Fr. John Bok, O.F.M., Pastor, as Celebrant. A Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, July 9, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston. Mr. Guarnelo’s family will be receiving friends for visitation Friday evening at 5 p.m. Following his wishes to be cremated, burial will follow these services at a later date at Grace Memorial Park cemetery in Santa Fe, Texas.
Tony was born on Galveston Island January 17, 1937, to Bruno and Clotilde Hernandez Guarnelo. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He will be deeply missed.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Clotilde Guarnelo; three brothers, Bruno Guarnelo, Jr., Stanley Guarnelo and Mariano Guarnelo; and also two of his sisters, Isidora Nallie and Mary Perez.
He leaves behind many fond memories with his loving family, sisters, Martha Lopez and Mary Jessie Gomes and husband, Delso, both of San Antonio, Texas and his brothers, Henry Guarnelo and wife, Juanita of Galveston, Sylvester Guarnelo and wife, Cora of San Antonio and Philip Guarnelo and wife, Margaret of Freddiesville. Sharing in his loss, also, are Tony’s numerous loving nieces and nephews, most especially, Patricia Salinas, Rosa Franco, Lorene Nieto, Christina Guarnelo, Albert Salinas, III, Maria Alvarado, Marino Guarnelo, Jr., Tony Guarnelo, Elizabeth Goodwill and Clotilde Villarreal. Also saddened by his passing are Tony’s many good friends, especially, lifelong friends, Albert Salinas, Jr., Daniel Rodriguez, Sr., Cruz Mata, Arthur Castaneda, G.V. "Panama" Morales and Jose Esqueda, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Mariano "Kimo" Perez, Albert Salinas, III, Marino Guarnelo, Jr., Tony Guarnelo, Sr., Nicanor Salinas, Jr. and Stephen Franco. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Guarnelo, Sr., Sylvester Guarnelo, Philip Guarnelo, Henry Guarnelo, Jr., Nicanor Salinas, Sr., Apolonio Franco and Delso Gomes.

DICKINSON - Annette Marie Simmons, 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 6, 2004, at her home in Dickinson. Annette was born March 16, 1936, in Port Barre, Louisiana to Theodore and Edna Robin. She and her husband, Lank Simmons, have lived in Dickinson for the last 40 years and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 31st of this month.
Annette was a faithful member of Pine Drive Baptist Church where she served decorating the pulpit and chapel for many years and also as a valiant prayer warrior. She loved her family very much and was known for her love of gardening and photography. Annette retired from Eckerd Pharmacy where she was employed as a Pharmaceutical Technician for many years.
Annette is survived by her husband, Lindell "Lank" Simmons, Sr.; son, Lindell "Lank" Simmons, Jr., and wife Valerie of Santa Fe; daughter Sedonia Finstad, and husband Bruce of Houston; and son Howard W. Simmons of Dickinson. She will also be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Paul Henning of Ohio, Natalie, Lisa, Paige, Faith, and Valerie of Houston and Laura Simmons of Santa Fe.
The family warmly thanks the entire staff of 6 West at Clear Lake Regional Hospital for their joy and dedication in serving Annette.
Visitation will be at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas on Thursday, July 8, 2004, from 6 – 8 p.m. There will be a celebration of her life at Pine Drive Baptist Church in Dickinson on Friday, July 9, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. and a private interment later that day at Forest Park East cemetery in Webster.

Catherine Jennie Slay
ESTES PARK, COLORADO - Catherine Jennie Slay passed away on July 1, 2004, in Estes Park, Colorado. She was born March 13, 1921, in Hereford, Texas and lived most of her life in Houston and League City, Texas. She was married
to Rayford "Red" Slay for almost 61 years until his passing in February 2002. Theirs was a deep and lasting love. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Larry Stephen Slay.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Slay Engles; granddaughter, Kristin Wainwright; grandsons, Scott Wainwright and Richard Slay; great-grandson, Dylan Wainwright; sisters, Dorothy Noland and Mildred Walser; brothers, Ed Fullwood and Ralph Fullwood and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2004, in the chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park East cemetery.

LEAGUE CITY - Mr. Edwin Wilmer Pell, 89, of League City, passed away, Sunday, July 4, 2004. Born in Houston on May 5, 1915, he had been a Chief Operator for American Oil Company for 39 years. Upon his retirement, he built unique ornamental birdhouses, loved to garden, hunt and fish, and was an inventor. He also loved his family and his many friends.
preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cleo Pell and his son, Edwin Pell, Jr., he is survived by his sons, Robert Pell and wife Janet, Paul Pell and wife Vickie, Gene Pell and wife Tempe; and daughter, Peggy Pell; he is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa Kangeiser, Melinda Porter, Dan Pell, Paige Pate, Allison Weathers, Quentin Pell, Scott Pell, Austin Pell, Will Collins, Robin Collins, Michael Hollingsworth and Joseph Hollingsworth. Also by great grandchildren, Morgan Kangeiser, Kaitlin Porter, Claire Pate, Dylan Pate, Noah Pate, Riley Weathers, Michael Hollingsworth, Jr., and Jeffrey Hollingsworth.
A visitation will be held in the Jack Rowe F.H., starting at 9 a.m., on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, with a memorial service to follow at 10 a.m. Rev. Jack Pierce will be officiating.

LA MARQUE - Tina Vincent passed away on Friday, July 2, 2004, at home after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of La Marque, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul C. Vincent, Jr.
Tina retired from Trinity Episcopal School.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ann, Paul III, Beverly, Carolina and Sylvia. Grandchildren, Paul IV, Joseph, Tina, Dominic, Fina, Miguel, Jean and Marco; great grandchildren, Paul V, DeJournett, Jade, Nicco, Brandon and Brittany.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Geneva. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor; her brothers, Edward and Louis; two nieces and several cousins.

TEXAS CITY - Herbert Martinez, 74, of Texas City, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004, at U.T.M.B. in Galveston.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home with Steve Papillion officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East cemetery in Webster, Texas. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Martinez was born January 16, 1930, in Puerto Rico. He was a retired operator for Union Carbide. He was a Jehovah’s Witness. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife Irma Martinez of Texas City; son Herbert Martinez; daughter Lizette Martinez; step-daughter Kathy Acosta; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
