Robert Demby Jr.
HITCHCOCK — On March 1, 1940 in the City of Rodney, Mississippi, a son was born to the union of Robert Demby Jr. and Augusta Nealy. They named me, Robert Demby Jr.
I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and was a rugged boxer for the Pendleton Base, well known for my fights. One of my greatest fights was when I floored my opponent in a KO in 1:38 in the first round.
While a resident of Los Angeles, I worked Security; and was a dedicated member of Greater Liberty Baptist Church and served actively. My wife and I relocated to Hitchcock, Texas and united with Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church where I served in the Brotherhood, Man Power Bible Study and the Sunday School. I also continued my work in Security and was employed with the Allied Security, ISP.
Just the other day my illness became very serious. I thank my family and the medical staff for doing all they could, but God saw that I was weary and in His infinite wisdom, He called me to my Heavenly home on Thursday afternoon, May 27, 2004. When I arrived at the Heavenly gates, I was welcomed by my father, Robert Demby Sr. and my brother, Willie White Jr.
I leave my legacy of love and my most cherished memories in the hearts of my loving and devoted wife, Mary Combs Demby of Hitchcock; my loving mother, Mrs. Augusta White of Los Angeles, California; my children, Johmica Tucker of Houston and Jacoby McKinney of Los Angeles, California; my pride and joy, my grandson, Jacari McKinney; my sisters, Shirley Bryant of Detroit, Michigan, Eleanor Sample and Margaret White-Ali both of Los Angeles, California; my brothers, Frank Demby, Alex Demby both of Vicksburg, Mississippi and William Demby of Dallas; my caring mother-in-law, Mrs. Eva Combs of Hitchcock; my sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, other family members and my Greater St. Matthews Church Family.
My family and friends will celebrate my life and home going at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church, 6333 Highway 6 in Hitchcock. My pastor, Rev. William L. Randall Jr. will officiate. My arrangements have been entrusted to Mainland Funeral Home of La Marque, Texas
