Robert "Bob" Galbreath
GALVESTON - Robert "Bob" Galbreath passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, January 18, 2004, at 11:05 p.m., surrounded by loving family and friends. Bob had fought a long and courageous fight against lung disease.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A video memorial tribute will be held at 7 p.m.
Bob was born January 13, 1944, in Sanger, Texas, and grew up and attended school in Sherman, Texas. He moved to Galveston in 1968, to go to work at Union Carbide in Texas City. He started there as a processing operator and later changed to an instrument technician. Bob loved his job and the many friends he made there over the years. He was forced to retire in 1995, due to his deteriorating health.
Bob was blessed with a lung transplant in 2001, which gave him the opportunity to really live and enjoy life for the first time in years. He was able to travel, bike, walk on the seawall, and attend football games including the Texans and his beloved Cowboys, without the aid of oxygen. For this second chance, he and his family will be eternally grateful.
Bob spent his early years in Galveston involved in the Galveston Jaycees where he served in various offices, including President. He then began coaching little league baseball where he went on to serve as President of Central Little League at Colombo Park. As his little leaguers grew into young men and women, he never for got their names, what years they played, or even what team they played on. His uncanny memory caused family members and friends alike to shake their heads in disbelief.
Bob was a "people person." He thoroughly enjoyed talking to people and one of his favorite pastimes was riding up and down the Seawall enjoying the "scenery," and stopping at coffee shops along the way.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Jewell McKinney; father, Clint Galbreath; brother, David Galbreath; former wife, Jane Skinner; and granddaughters, Kinsey and Zoey Tamayo.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dana Galbreath; sons, Russell Galbreath and wife, D’ne of Humble, Robert Lemire and wife, Sofia, of San Angelo; daughters, Mary Carol Hoesel and husband, Dan, of Houston; and Kimberly Lemire and husband, Philip Tamayo, Sr., of League City; sisters Carol Baxley and husband, Carl, of Sherman; and Ruth Ann Lynch of Sherman; grandchildren: Brittany Galbreath, Megan Tamayo, Philip Tamayo, Jr., Viviano Lemire, Jared Hoesel, Nicholas Galbreath, and Megan Lemire; sisters-in-law: Sue Rogers and husband, Paul; Jacquelyn Stell and husband, Pat; brothers-in-law Ben Sbarbaro; Jerry Sbarbaro and wife, Sharon; friends, Sylvia Wynne, Charles Sabatini, Delores Perkins, and Kathy Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and respected him.
Bob and Dana also became friends with the many nurses and doctors who have treated Bob over the last several years. These were the staff of UTMB 7-D, UTMB SICU and MICU, the staff at Kindred Hospital in Pasadena, Dr. Michael Boyars, Dr. Zwischenberger, Dr. Scott Lick, and Dr. Alexander Duarte. We truly love each and every one of you.
We would also like to thank all the people around the United States who included them in their circle of prayer. God bless you all.
Pallbearers will be John Hey, Jack Higgins, Foster Spurlock, Robert Sandoval, Michael Kelemen, and Paul Rogers.
