DALLAS, TEXAS - Mr. Leotis Johnson passed away Thursday, January 15, 2004, in Dallas.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2004, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be no wake. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2004, at Westward Street Church of Christ, 302 N. Westward in Texas City with Bro. Gene Rowe Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Houston National cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory and to patiently await that inevitable day when they too will receive a visit from that same angel, his wife, Lessie Johnson; two step-daughters, Tracey and Kamilah Green of Dallas; four sisters, Bobbie Johnson Whitaker of Ocean Shores, Washington, Sarah Johnson of Texas City, Bettie Burrell (Ricky) of Dallas and Jackie Johnson of Houston; one brother, Lewis Johnson Jr. of Ocean Shores, Washington; an aunt, Lucy Glover of Houston; an uncle, Francis Boston of Texas City; and a host of relatives and many, many close friends.

Joseph Isaac Dial
GALVESTON - Joseph Isaac Dial, 89, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2004, at his residence. He was born on December 30, 1914, in Blytheville, Arkansas. Mr. Dial was a retired independent businessman. He also worked for Aramco Oil company as a welder in Saudi Arabia. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of the 4th Degree, the Eagles Club, an active member of the Men's Club of St. Peters, volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital, volunteered with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and was in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He also raised numerous children and assisted in their education.
He is preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Elnora Goodman Dial; first wife Elizabeth Dial; sisters Irene Goff, Willie Riddick, Jessie Moody, Lessie Smart and Jimmie Dial.
He is survived by his wife, Della Dial; three step-children William B. Duncan, Jr. and wife Linda, Clyde R. Duncan and wife Debra and Debbie Healy and husband Tim; and seven step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, with a Rosary to begin at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, with Father William Bartniski officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Flynn.

GALVESTON - Clarence I. Pressler, 91, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2004, at home.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Paul Flajole, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Catholic cemetery in Dickinson.
The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m., led by Deacon John Pistone.
Mr. Pressler was born in Galveston on December 27, 1912. He was an electrician and worked for Pfeiffer Electric Co. out of Houston. He was local manager in Galveston until his retirement in 1981. Clarence was a member of Electrical Union Local #527 since 1934, and received a 65-year member award in November 1999. He was a member of the Galveston Contractors Association. He attended St. Patrick’s school, Sacred Heart School, Kirwin High School, all in Galveston, and St. Mary’s Seminary School in La Porte. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, #787, and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Galveston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August Herman and Kate (Ott) Pressler; sister, Helen; brother, Charles; and sons, David Clarence and John Charles.
Mr. Pressler is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Dura Belle; son Paul Herman of Galveston; and grandchildren April and Lyndon, of Ogdensburg, New York.
Pallbearers will be Danny Ott, Lawrence Leimer, both of Galveston, Mark Fridye of Friendswood, Williard Adams of Houston, Bill Chamberlain of Texas City; and Gene Dawson, of Ethel, Louisiana.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Fridye of Friendswood and Bernard Ott of Galveston.

GALVESTON - Miriam Clark Merrell, 89, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at John Sealy Hospital, in Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Georgia. Burial will follow at Carrollton City cemetery.
Miriam was born September 21, 1914, to Thomas and Phena Robinson Merrell in Carroll County, Georgia.

Allen Tyler, Jr.
GALVESTON-Allen Tyler, Jr., 58, passed away from this life on Saturday, January 17, 2004, at his residence.
Allen was born November 3, 1945, in Galveston. He attended Central High School, where he graduated in 1964. He was drafted by the United States Marine Corps in 1965, and was employed by the University of Texas Medical Branch for forty years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Tyler, Sr. and brother, Ed Tyler.
He is survived by his mother, Verna Tyler; wife, Rose M. Tyler; daughter Nina L. Tyler; sons, Allen G. Tyler and Marcus A. Tyler; sister, Ottie L. Washington; three granddaughters, two grandsons; one niece, two grand nieces all of Galveston; devoted friend, Kenneth Carter of Grand Prairie, Texas; host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial services will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2004, in the chapel of E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary with Rev. Lorenzo Williams, officiating.

Stella Lloreda Payne-Blackman
GALVESTON - Stella Lloreda Payne-Blackman, 93, born September 9, 1910, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at her residence. She was a native of Galveston. Stella served in the Merchant Marines as a stewardess from June 1938 until October 1978. During World War II, she worked as a mechanic’s assistant building aircrafts. During her Merchant Marine years she served aboard passenger and commercial ships. She also served aboard the nuclear ship the USS Savannah.
Stella is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Blackman; brothers, Joseph and James Lloreda; and sister, Lillian Lloreda Jamison.
She leaves behind a son, Robert Payne; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful members of Hospice Care Team, Inc., of Texas City, who brought comfort and peace of mind to Stella and her family during trying times. As were her wishes, Stella will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered at sea, where she spent most of her life.
A private memorial service may be held at a later date.

Rosella Taylor Jones
PORT ARTHUR - Rosella Taylor Jones, 92, expired Monday, January 19, 2004, in Port Arthur. She was born March 25, 1911, and was a graduate of Lincoln School.
Rosella was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she was active in the Sunday school and the Imperial Choir for many years. She was an enthusiastic mother and homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking.
The family will receive friends at Mount Sinai Baptist Church from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2004. Home going services will be held at Mount Sinai Baptist Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2004, with the Rev. Randy Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak cemetery, Nederland, Texas, under the direction of Hannah Funeral Home, Inc.
She leaves with cherished memories her faithful son and daughter in law - Ezekiel III and Connie Jones (Port Arthur); other sons - Philip Jones (Galveston) Thomas Jones (Tucson, Arizona) and Paul Jones (Port Arthur); daughters - Joyce Jones (Port Arthur) and Faye Jones (Houston); two stepchildren whom she lovingly reared: Albert Jones and Betty Jones-Starks, both of Port Arthur; beloved granddaughters - Sharla Jones and Jessica Jones; seventeen other grandchildren; special great grandson, Jaiden Broussard; twenty other cherished great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Hall; brother in law, Kellon Jones; sister-in-law, Juanita Shadowens; a host of nephews and nieces; very dear friends, Mrs. G.
