Arnold Hoffman Sims
TEXAS CITY — Arnold Hoffman Sims was born on April 11, 1926, in Chappell Hill, Texas to Sidney and Bettie Lacey Sims.
He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Providence Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas. After graduating from high school at age 16, Arnold moved to Galveston where he was a resident for over 60 years until he moved to Texas City in 2003. He worked for the Galveston Sign Company and later retired from University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston after 24 years in E.V.S. (Housekeeping).
Arnold went to be with the Lord at age 78 on Wednesday, December 29, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings; his devoted wife, Helen Davis Sims; stepdaughter, Alice Marie Broussard and granddaughter, Sharon Broussard.
He leaves to mourn his beloved sweetheart of 23 years, Faye Helen Evans of Texas City; three sisters and one brother, Lucille Smith, Novella Cunningham, Ruthie Leassear and William Sims all of Houston; five nieces and two nephews, Shirley (Cleophus) Henry, Linda (Joseph) Babin, Rev. Claudette Sims, Janet (Clifford) Luddington and Cynthia (Samuel) Williams; James Gee and Kenneth (Elizabeth) Gage; a son, Robert (Sims) Bonner; stepdaughter, Kim Ward; two stepsons, Paul Alexander and Willie Evans; five grandchildren, Janice M. (Robert) Evans-Mays, Cathy (Jimmy) Pitts, Kevin (Deborah) Broussard, Gordon Ward, Jr. and Kimesha Ward; nine great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a wake service from 7-8 p.m., on Tuesday, January 4th at E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 S. Meyersville Rd., Brenham, Texas, with burial to follow in Providence cemetery.
Tom Neal Jr.
Mr. Tom Neal Jr., passed from this life on Friday, December 31, 2004, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, followed by a wake from 7-8 p.m., at Wynn Funeral Home, 602-32nd Street, Galveston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 3215 Broadway, Galveston, Texas, with Pastor Lorenzo Williams, Sr., officiating. There will be no graveside service at the request of the deceased, he will be cremated.
Neal attended Central High School. He served in the Army and Air Force for a total of 6 years. He worked 25 years for ILA 851 (20).
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Sr. and Willie B. Neal; a loving son, Gregory Neal and sister, Helen Antwine. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Thelma Neal of Galveston; stepsons, Gerald Lindsey (Evelyn) of Beaumont, and Norris Smiley of Galveston; step daughter, June Benford of Houston; two nieces, Noel Williams of Fort Worth and Pamile Castile of La Marque; nephew, Alephonse Wyatts, Jr. of California; sister-in-law, Joyce Miller of Galveston; devoted friend, James Brooks of Galveston and a host of family members and friends.
Clarence Sylvester Mallia, Jr.
Clarence Sylvester Mallia, Jr., 64, of Galveston, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2004, at Gulf Health Care Center in Texas City.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 4th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, with Deacon John Pistone officiating. Burial will follow the service at Grace Memorial Park in Alta Loma. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 3rd, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Clarence was born November 23, 1940, in Galveston, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of the island. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ada B. Mallia and extended family, Don and Neicy Pursley, and Rhonda, Emma, Amy, and Linsey.
He is survived by his sister, Doni Julian and brother, Gerald Lee Mallia, both of Galveston; nephews, Boyd Mallia and Donny Pursley; nieces, Genette Bassett, Pam Pursley, Alexa Pursley, and Marissa Pursley.
Pallbearers will be E. S. MacBeth, Donny Pursley, William Dafonte, Joe Silva, Robert Cherry, and Gerald Mallia.
Ronald Dean Gardner, Sr.
Ronald Dean Gardner, Sr., 67, passed away, Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at his home in Galveston. Honoring his wishes to be cremated, a Memorial Service in his memory will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2005, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston.
Ron was born January 18, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, however, in his latest retirement years, relocated to Texas and Galveston Island for the past several years. He was a person whose friendly personality allowed him to make many friendships. A kind and generous individual, Ron liked helping people any way that he could. He would not only provide a helping hand but emotional support, however strong the need be. He was a thoughtful man who will be remembered for the way that he touched so many lives. Perhaps one of his greatest accomplishments in his life, an accomplishment of which he was so proud, was his involvement in his Masonic Lodge, becoming a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite.
Mr. Gardner is preceded in death by his son, Ronald Dean Gardner, Jr. He leaves behind many fond memories with his fiance, Ruthey E. Florey of Beaumont, Texas; his two brothers, William D. Gardner and Arthur R. Gardner, both of Colorado and many good friends. To Ron, his friends were like his family and for his friends, Ron became family. He will be sadly missed.
Marilyn Gay Flato
SEABROOK – It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Marilyn G. Flato, loving mother, grandmother and friend on December 30, 2004.
Marilyn was a beautiful, outgoing, vibrant woman full of life and always willing to help others. This showed through her years of service with the Aids Coalition and substance abuse counseling.
Marilyn is survived by her parents, Lynwood "LD" and Margie Marshall; sister, Sherry Didonato; Ex husband, Rudy Flato; four children, Wyndy, Devin, Chancey and Casey Flato; grandchildren, Kyndal and Skyler Flato; numerous nephews and long time special friends Mercedes, CJ and Sandi.
A viewing will be held on Monday January 3, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City, 3100 I45 North (Exit 15). The funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 4, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Carnes Funeral Home as well.
Floyd Davenport
Floyd Davenport, 76, of Temple passed away Friday, December 31, 2004, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2005, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Interment with Masonic Graveside Rites will follow at Temple Garden of Memories.
Mr. Davenport was born on January 22, 1928, to the late Frank and Mary Edna Cook Davenport in Rockdale. He married
Betty Jewell Kegley on January 26, 1952, here in Temple. He retired from Galveston County Beach and Park Department in 1983. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #1427 in Temple and Order of Eastern Star #979 in La Marque, Texas.
His parents; one brother, Billy Frank Davenport in 1970 and a sister, Thelma Lee Seibold in 1996, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jewell Davenport of Temple; son and daughter in law, Joseph Floyd and Rita Davenport of Conroe; daughters, Marcia Davenport Holmgren and husband, John of Grapevine, Donna O'Nell Steen and husband, Charles of Denton; brother, Ray Davenport of Livingston; sister, Dora Hoyt of East Bernard; seven grandchildren, Shane Wilson, Shawna Steen, Madelyne Steen, Erik Holmgren, Andrew Holmgren, Lindsey Davenport and Justin Davenport; one great grandson, Joshua Roulane.
The family suggests that memorials maybe made to the Memorial Baptist Church in Temple.

Mrs. Dodson was born October 11, 1923, in Texas City.
She was preceeded in death by her husbands, Ellis Davison, Elson Ray Dodson, and Harry H. St. Clair.
Audrey is survived by her children, Donna Lee Parrish and fiance’, Jim Cole, Robert Ray Dodson and wife, Franceil, Jeannie Ann Tuskey and husband, Pat, Christine Cecelia Spain and husband, Bob, Peggy Sue Dodson and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Annette Carswell, Stephanie Parrish, Amy Wischnewsky, Adam Ray Dodson, Lee Ellis Sartain, Mark Sartain, Christopher Harrington, and Ashley Harrington; great grandchildren, Gracie Carswell, Makenzie Sartain and Shelby Wischnewsky.

Exa Inez Robinson
DICKINSON — Exa Inez Robinson, 95, passed away January 2, 2005, at her residence in Dickinson, Texas. She was born November 2, 1909, to Joseph Henry McKenzie and Georgia Alla McKenzie in Vanzant County, Texas. She was a member of the United Pentacostal Church in Kemah, Texas and she was the originator of the Fruit Stand in Dickinson at Hwy 3 and Hughes Road.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas with Reverend T. G. McNeely officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2005, in the Chapel of the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Park East cemetery in Webster, Texas.
She is survived by two sons, Coy Ray Robinson and Joe W. Robinson; eight grandchildren, Joyce, Kathy, Danah, Joey, Dee Ann, Dwayne, Mary and Gayla and sixteen great grandchildren.
Exa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Enis Gaston Robinson on November 17, 1981.
Pallbearers will be Joe Robinson, Jr., Dwaye Robinson, Chris Adams, Richard Adams, Jr., Ross Sowell and Kevin Sowell.
