Leroy J. Naschke, Sr.
GALVESTON — It saddens me to tell you that my husband, Leroy J. Naschke, Sr., has left us. But it gladdens me to know that with our prayers, he is in heaven with God our Father, and with his parents, Arthur C. Sr. and Lena Viotto Naschke. He also joins his brother, Arthur C. Jr., his son, David A. Naschke, Sr., and his son-in-law, Bob Wallace.
Leroy was born July 28, 1921, in Galveston. He graduated from Ball High School where he excelled in sports and attended Draughn Business College, where he met and later married
Helen 'Nell' Christensen on August 5, 1943. He was the last survivor of the 1938 State Champion American Legion 'Galveston Rattler' Baseball Team. Leroy served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was the owner of Naschke's Sports Center and was instrumental in founding Galveston's Little League and Pony-Colt programs. Leroy was a charter member of the Noon Optimist Club, served as president of the Galveston East Little League program for 25 years, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Nell, and six of his seven children, Leroy J. Naschke, Jr. and wife, Mary Jo; Irene Wallace; Michael W. Naschke, Sr. and wife, Rene; Diane Jones and husband, Bill; Derrill A. Naschke and wife, Elizabeth; Jane Poe and husband, Donald; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Griffin; grandchildren, Leroy J. Naschke, III, and wife, Kelly; Stacey Attias and husband, Sagy; Stephanie Beverding; Michael 'Mickey' Naschke, Jr.; Jerome 'Jay' Beverding, III; Helena Hill and husband, Justin; Derrill Naschke, II; Alexandra 'Alex' Naschke; David A. Naschke, Jr.; Donald 'Bud' Poe; Rachel Poe; and Tanya Naschke; eight great grandchildren; an aunt, Raffaella 'Baby' Viotto; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Father Frank Fabj officiating. Burial will follow the services at Old City cemetery in Galveston.
The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2005, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Leroy's grandsons, Leroy J. Naschke, III, Michael 'Mickey' Naschke, Jr., Jerome 'Jay' Beverding, III, Derrill Naschke, II, Donald 'Bud' Poe, and David A. Naschke, Jr.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of 7-A at John Sealy Hospital for the loving care they gave to Leroy.

August 20, 1916 - January 8, 2005
GRAPELAND, TEXAS — Our sweet, special mother and grandmother, Mary Lucille Smith, departed this earth on Saturday, January 8, 2005.
Lucille was born Mary Lucille Skidmore on August 20, 1916, in Grapeland, Texas. As a young girl, Lucille picked cotton alongside her seven siblings and was described by other family members as 'working harder than any two people.' She met and married
Lewis A. Smith on October 1, 1932. They were married
for 70 years until his death in November 2002. Lucille and her husband moved their young family to Galveston in 1941. As a way to make money to subsidize the cost of eye care for her youngest child, she went to work for Dr. Sam Nussenblatt, an Optometrist, and stayed for 21 years. You could not walk down the streets of downtown Galveston without everyone knowing Lucille. She brought a ray of sunshine to everyone she came into contact with.
Lucille and Lewis‚ retirement years were shared with their other retired siblings by building adjacent houses on a beautiful quiet hill back in Grapeland Texas, where they all began their lives.
Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Louis A. Smith and infant son Ronald, her parents Tracy and Olive Skidmore, two brothers Curtis and Octa Skidmore, two sisters Cammie James and Mammie Gibson Allen. Lucille is survived by her children, Ralph Smith, and wife Fran, Gerald Smith and wife Patsy, Karen Fullen and husband Bill, Donald Smith and wife Sandra. Two brothers, Hoyt and Charles Skidmore; sister Ann Schwartz Turner. She had 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews her loved her very much.
Serving as pallbearers are Lucille's grandsons, Cliff Smith, Bill Fullen, Jr., Brad Fullen, Baxter Smith, Randy Jones and Jose Palmer.
This wonderful human being was the center of our family. Our love for her will live on forever in our hearts as she lives within all of us everyday.

Theodore Langham, Jr.
GALVESTON —Theodore Langham, Jr. passed away January 8, 2005, at UTMB Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He was born August 21, 1932 to the union of Theodore Sr., and Mahalia Langham. He attended Galveston public schools and graduated from Central High School Class of 1949. He served 2 years in the Military; attended TSU and Common Wealth College of Mortuary Science. He was co-owner of Busy Bee Cab Company until his retirement.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Wynn Funeral Home, 602-32nd Street, Galveston, Texas. There will be no wake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Wynn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Perrie Joy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park cemetery, Santa Fe, Texas.
He was "Uncle Ted" and "Grand Pa" to many who loved him, especially his former neighbors, The Davis Children and his Dutch Kettle Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore Langham Sr., and Mahalia Langham; sisters, Ruth Moultrie and Thelma C. Williams; son, Theodore Turner; and grandson, Shawn Christopher Harris. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Ida Langham; children, Theodore Langham III (Gloria), Winifred Langham, Pamela Langham, Stephanie Leigh, Deborah Harris (Frank), Theodora Foster (Darryl), Jerome Stanley; Uncle C.G. DICKINSON — Juanita Mae DeFord, 84, of Dickinson, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2005, in the Friendswood Health Care Center. Mrs. DeFord was born October 13, 1920, in Vernon and had lived most of her lifetime in Dickinson. She was retired and had worked as a Shaklee Distributor.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Dean Perkins of Mississippi, John Wesley Perkins of Texas and Joseph Presley DeFord of Texas; daughter, Deborah Sperry of Texas; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Faye Dean Miller and Johnnie Humphrey of Texas; brother, Thomas Auwen of Texas, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don DeFord.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at 1 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Goss officiating. Interment will follow in the Lovelady Antioch cemetery. Family will received friends on Wednesday monrning.

TEXAS CITY — Fred A. Cash, 78, of Texas City, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Mainland Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Burial will follow at Forest Park East in Webster, Texas. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cash was born March 7, 1926, in Creek County, Oklahoma. He served his country in the United States Marines. He was a member of the Mainland Elks Lodge and VFW #8566 in Bacliff.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Iva M. Cash, of Texas City; sons David Cash and wife Margie, Ernie Cash and wife Karen and Bobby Cash and wife Jan; daughter Cindy A. Knowles and husband Fred; granddaughters, Crystal Collins and husband Michael, Alyssa Cash, Micah Cash, Hannah Cash, Natalie Cash, Emily Cash and Miranda Cash; grandsons, David Jon Cash and wife Sharryn, John Robbins, Josh Cash, Ryan Cash, Eric Cash, and Jared Cash; great-grandchildren, Christopher Collins, Kyle Collins, Cameron Collins, Grace Cash, Gavin Cash, and Austin Cash; sister Maxine Chamberlin and husband Johnny; and brother Charles W. Cash and wife Ginny.

E. Carol Rice
Born September 4, 1928, in Plentywood, Montana. passed away January 5, 2005, as the result of a car accident. She graduated from Rice Elementary School and Westby High School, Montana. Carol was valedictorian of her class. Carol took flying lessons after high school and soloed. Carol attended the University of Montana at Missoula. She taught school in Idaho and Rock Springs, Montana.
She worked for Mid Continent Airlines for one year and then they merged with Braniff Airlines. Carol worked for Braniff for 35 years and then Continental Airlines for eleven years.
After retirement from Continental, she continued to travel the world and took many cruises. She always had her suitcase packed for the next trip.
She is preceded in death by her brother Sammy and parents, Reuben and A. Marie Rice.
Carol is survived by her brothers James, Burton, Gene and Kurtiss and sister Wanda, also numerous nieces and nephews, one of the nephews being Joel Rice.
