Doyle was born on August 13, 1916, in Galveston, Texas, to Dominic Doyle and Elva Lemoine McDonald. He had the pleasure of growing up with his grandfather, Theodore Lemoine, and his much loved siblings, Elva and brother, Lee. He attended Rosenberg Elementary School and graduated from Ball High School.
Doyle graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. In 1939, Doyle completed his study of the law and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. The following year Doyle joined his father in the practice of law in Galveston. Shortly after, Doyle was called for military service. He was a bombardier and served with the crew of a Flying Fortress B-17 named “The Paper Doll”. The plane was shot down over Germany in 1944. He was captured and served 13 months as a prisoner of war. The Lone Star Flight Museum was the site of a commemorative ceremony honoring the “Paper Doll” crew on March 24, 2003.
Following liberation, Doyle returned to Galveston and resumed law practice. He met and married
his beloved wife, Louise Catherine Morse. His law partner was Donald Markle until Mr. Markle joined the bench. He continued his practice alone for over 50 years. His service and influence were available to all, young and old alike.
There is no doubt that Doyle’s devotion to Rosenberg Public Library was an important part of his life.
