Sobeida Salinas, 84, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Gulf Health Care Center, Texas City, Texas. A Chapel Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2003 in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston, with Associate Pastor Dan Loaiza of the Calvary Chapel in Friendswood, Texas, officiating. Gathering for visitation will be held on Sunday evening, September 28, 2003 also in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Mrs. Salinas’ family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Salinas was born January 28, 1919 in Palacios, Texas. She was a born again Christian, who lived her life for the Lord. She was a person of great faith, an individual who gave of herself whole-heartedly for her beliefs. Mrs. Salinas was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family greatly. She was an avid reader and in her spare time, she also enjoyed listening to music and singing along with her favorite operas.
Mrs. Salinas is preceded in death by her husband, Albino Salinas, her parents, Antonio and Rosa Garcia and also three of her grandsons, Robert Salinas, Gilbert Pena, Jr. and Albino Salinas. She leaves behind many fond memories with her loving children, Theresa Pena of Houston, Texas, Robert Salinas and wife, Tina of La Marque, Texas and Antonio Salinas and wife, Josephine of New Mexico. Sharing in her loss, also, are Mrs. Salinas’ very loving grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.

Nathaniel DeHass McClure III
BURKEVILLE, TEXAS — Nathaniel DeHass McClure, III age 86 of Burkeville, Texas, former longtime resident of Galveston died Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Frank Fabj officiating. Burial will follow at Oleander cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday with a prayer vigil to be held at 6:00 p.m.
Nat was born on June 4, 1917 in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from the Marion Institute and the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. He also had three years of post graduate schooling in the Navy in Aeronautical, Mechanical and Marine Engineering and Military Intelligence.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1963 and retired as a Commander. He flew as a Naval Aviator serving in the Pacific Fleet and commanding a squadron of seaplanes. His tour of Naval duty included AVCAD/NAVCAD, CINCPACFLT Intelligence Division, Patrol Squadron 50 (VP-50) and he also participated in Operation Lifeline - National Air Transport Service.
He received the following commendations; Air Medal, American Defense, National Defense, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, WWII Victory Navy Unit, Korean Service, UN Service and American Campaign.
He retired from military service in 1963 to work as a Marine Specialist with Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation, Nilo Barge Lines, Inc., Kelso Marine, Inc., and retired from Galveston Shipbuilding in 1982.
He then moved with wife Suzanne to Lake Toledo Bend. He enjoyed boating, fishing and always lived on lakes, creeks or harbors. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and bird watching as well.
Nat is survived by wife Suzanne Pauls McClure and children Nate, Tony, Mary, Sue, Geoff, Hank, Baylis and Carrie. Grandchildren include Claire, Laura, Eric, Charlie, Ian, Forrest and Avery.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Loyd Stanford Addison, 74, of Sweetwater, Louisiana passed away Thursday, September 25, at UTMB Medical Center in Galveston, Texas.
He was survived by his son, Loyd Joseph Addison of Sweetwater, Louisiana; two daughters, Rose Ann Eyer, Hitchcock, Texas and Nina Louise McCarroll, Springfield, Louisiana; three brothers Donald Addison, Independence, Louisiana, Tom Addison, Folsom, Louisiana and P.I. Addison, Husser, Louisiana; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Proceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Walker Addison and parents Floyd Stanford and Gladys Chambers Addison.
Visitation will be at Geisler Funeral Home in Hammond, Louisiana, Wednesday, October 1, 12:00 noon until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Geisler Funeral Home in Hammond. Burial at Ford cemetery, North Cooper Road in Sweetwater, Louisiana.

James Coulter Hinkley
James Coulter Hinkley, 75, of League City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 23, 2003. He was born on August 29, 1928 in Brownsville, Texas.
He was survived by his fiancée, Mary Kerr of Pearland; daughter, Linda Mann; son, Chris Hinkley both of League City; 2 grandchildren, Shelby and Dustin Mann.
Jimmy retired from Unisys and was an active member of many senior citizen groups in our community.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 28, 2003, from 2-8pm at Jack Rowe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, September 29, 2003 at the funeral home.

TEXAS CITY — Mr. Ellis Matthews ended his journey on earth Tuesday, September
24, 2003 at Gulf Health Care Center in Texas City.
He is survived by three daughters, Essie Marie Lewis, Murcille Sherwood and Deborah Scott; a brother, Andrew (Willie Mae) Matthews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, September 29th from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. There will be no wake. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Texas City with Pastor L. D. Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow services at Rising Star cemetery in La Marque.

Alfredo Vaiani
Alfredo Vaiani, 85, of Galveston passed away Thursday, September 25, 2003, at UTMB Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 29th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Frank Fabj as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Alfredo was born July 8, 1918, in Galveston, Texas. He graduated from Ball High School with the class of 1936, where he lettered in football. Alfredo then joined the U. S. Army, where he was a 2nd lieutenant graduate of the Army Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and served from 1942 through 1945. His distinguished career was with the famed combat experienced Army 9th Infantry Division in the North African Desert and later in Normandy, France with the 9th also supporting the D-Day invasion. His honorable discharge was recognized and he received several decorations, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in action. He was recommended for the rank of major at the time of his discharge in 1945. Captain Vaiani loved his country and he served it well. During his working career, Alfredo was involved in many businesses, and after retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Alfredo is preceded in death by his sister, Luisa Vaiani.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Fernanda Vaiani, of Galveston; daughter, Lisa Schweitzer and husband, Jim, of Galveston; four grandchildren: Holly, Timothy, Andrew, and Catherine; brother, Alvaro Vaiani, of Houston; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Schweitzer, grandson; Andrew Schweitzer, grandson; Arch Panfilli, Jr.; Ross Novelli, Sr.; and Maurizio Antonelli.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Mother Seton Fund at Sacred Heart Church.

BELLVILLE - Mr. Wylie Judson Bass passed from this life Saturday morning, September 27, 2003, in Bellville.
Born July 23, 1924, in Texarkana, Mr. Bass had spent most of his life in the Galveston County area before moving to Bellville
1- 1/2 years ago. He had been a mail carrier in Galveston with the United States Postal Service for thirty five years, a member of U.S. Postal Carriers Union, and served his country as a U.S. Marine during WWII. Mr. Bass loved being a cowboy and enjoyed reunions with his Marine Corps mates.
preceded in death by his wife, Gerelene Cecilia Hunt Bass, survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wylie G. and Sissy Bass of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia J. and John Zorn of Bellville; grandchildren, Greg Mattes, Jr., Melissa Flentge, Doug Bass, Brandi Bass, Jud Bass; great-grandchildren, Cullen Bass and John Wylie Flentge.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2003, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend John Kappe officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Casketbearers will be Doug Bass, Jud Bass, Wade Hunt, Jr., Greg Mattes, Jr., Heath Wiktorik and Randy Womack.
