Thomas Peter Yeager, 78, of Galveston, passed away Monday, November 24, 2003, at Cornerstone Hospital in Clear Lake.
Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday, November 29th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Bok, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Catholic cemetery.
The family will receive visitors after 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 28th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., led by Father John Bok, OFM.
Tommy was born January 12, 1925, in Galveston, Texas. He attended Kirwin High School and then served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Tommy worked for the Santa Fe Railroad after returning from the war. He then owned and operated several service stations in Galveston. He spent the last 17 years of his working career in vehicle maintenance for the City of Galveston, retiring in 1992. During retirement, Tommy could often be found in his yard tinkering with his plants and testing out his green thumb. He enjoyed watching football, being with his friends, and spending time with his family.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. and Mary Catherine Yeager; brothers Charles, Jr., Henry, James, and John Yeager; and sisters, Julia Yeager and Agnes Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Glenda Yeager; daughter, Phoebe Yeager; grandchildren: Jeremy Martorell and Dana Evans; sisters, Molly Yeager and Theresa Benge and husband, Bobby; brothers, Larry Yeager and wife, Patricia; Steve Yeager and wife, Dorothy; Paul Yeager and wife, Toni; Phillip Yeager; Mike Yeager and wife, Pam; and Pat Yeager; great grandchildren: Nissa Evans and Thomas Mark Evans; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Martorell, Jim Evans, Steve Yeager, Robert Yeager, Lawrence Yeager, and Randy Faske.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy's special friends, Geraldine Hogan, Diamond Athanasiou, Tripo Popovich, and Jim Havens.

LA MARQUE, TEXAS — Thelma Williams Thomas - On Monday, November 24, 2003 at the age of 77, the Angel of death stood with hovering wings as he told our mother, "Thelma" it's time to go. Your work on earth is finished. With her loved ones standing near her bed, she ascended into heaven to be with God.
Visitation will begin today, November 28, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. followed by a wake from 7-8 p.m., at Wynn Funeral Home, 602-32nd Street, Galveston, Texas.
The celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Nathaniel Brown, Officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview cemetery.
Thelma Williams Thomas was born April 15, 1926 to the late Issac Williams and Leola Jones Williams in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a member of the Central High School Class of 1946 and the famous Blue & White Battalion.
She was baptized at an early age at the Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she raised her family and introduced them to Christ. She was a licensed beautician, the first Lady Tractor Trailer Driver in Galveston, and a Bus Driver for G.I.S.D. She was united in marriage to the late Atoms Ray Thomas, Jr., and to that union, 6 children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Larry Thomas; and grandsons: Elbert Warner, Jr., and Jermaine Lawrence.
She leaves to cherish her memories; daughters: Donzell Lawrence, Pamela Warner (Elbert), and Thelma Hunter all of Galveston, Texas; sons: Stephen L. Thomas, Sr. (Jeanette) of Galveston, Texas and Samuel Thomas (Gail) of Houston, Texas; special cousins: Murphy Warren and The Allen Family; very special friends: LaVerne Johnson and Mae Davis of Austin, Texas; special caregiver and friend, Versie Blackmon of the Mildred House.

TEXAS CITY — Raul "Rue" L. Guerra, 72 of Texas City passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Mainland Medical Center Hospital in Texas City. He was born August 25, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas, he was a resident of Texas City for 21 years. Rue was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Texas City, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Korean War, and was a Merchant Mariner.
Rue is survived by his wife, Betty Guerra of Texas City; two daughters and son-in-law; Debbie and George Garcia of Texas City, and Becky Harrison of Texas City; four sons and daughters-in-law; Raul Guerra Jr., of Bayou Vista, Richard and Nelda Guerra of Texas City, George Guerra of Texas City and Anthony and Pauline Guerra of Texas City; half brother and half sisters, Dan Benard Guerra of Galveston, Angie and husband Charlie Cuellar of Galveston and Glenda Guerra of Galveston; nine grandchildren, Jess Vasquez, Tina Harrison, Ricky Guerra, Louis Vasquez, Steve Guerra, Geremy Guerra, Travis Guerra, Lauren Vasquez and Austin Guerra.
A visitation will be Friday, November 28, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque, with a Vigil at 6:00 p.m. with Deacon Joe Hensley.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Texas City with Father Jan Kubisa officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his sons and son-in-law.

GALVESTON — James "Jim" Foster, 80, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at his residence.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28th from 4-7:00 p.m. followed by a wake from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2003, at the Jerusalem Baptist Church, with Rev. A.S. Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview cemetery.
Mr. Foster was born May 14, 1923, in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was a retired construction worker for Local 116. He also was a member of the Jerusalem church where he served on the Usher Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
He leaves to cherish memories of his life a devoted wife of 30 years, Mable Foster; he is also survived by nieces, Carolyn Douglas (Jake), Evelyn Bullard (Charlie), Mary White and Betty; one nephew, James Foster of Alexandria; great niece, Wilhelmina Brooks; great nephew, Alfred Douglas, Jr. (Joyce); host of other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to family members and friends for all their support during this time of need. Special thanks to Dr. Raja and all those who cared-for him during his illness. God bless each and everyone.

George H. Harris
George H. Harris, 75, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2003, at Galveston Memorial Park cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas, with Fr. Beni Wego, S.V.D. of St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, officiating. Burial will follow services Friday. Gathering for visitation will also be held on Friday, November 28, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning after 9:00 a.m.
Mr. Harris was born April 23, 1928 in Johnsville, Pennsylvania. For most all of his life, however, he has been a resident of Galveston, Texas. As a board certified realtor, Mr. Harris was employed by the Galveston County Central Appraisal District, until such time that he retired in 1987. Entering the United States Army, June 14, 1946, Mr. Harris served his country proudly until such time that he was honorably discharged November 12, 1947.
Predeceased in death by his parents, John Morris and Ruth Harris and also one of his sons, Joseph Richard Harris, Mr. Harris leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Dolores A. Harris and his children, Gaynell Wilson of Austin, Texas, Steven M. Harris and wife, Carmen of Galveston, Texas, Thomas W. Harris of Pasadena, Texas and Clifford E. Harris and wife, Belinda of LaPorte, Texas. Sharing in his loss, too, are Mr. Harris’ numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a host of other loving family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Harris’ children.

Elizabeth Fitzgerald Sporar
Elizabeth Fitzgerald Sporar, 88, passed away Monday, November 24, 2003, at her home in Galveston, Texas. Elizabeth was born on September 19, 1915, in Manchester, New Hampshire. She was a Galveston resident for the majority of her life, having arrived here from New Hampshire in May, 1927. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Galveston as Valedictorian in the Class of 1932. She graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1936 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. Elizabeth taught in the Galveston Public Schools for several years before beginning a career in Chemistry at Monsanto Chemical Company in Texas City, Texas in 1943. She was one of the survivors of the Texas City explosion, which occurred in 1947, walking away from this tragedy relatively unscathed. She received several promotions during her employment and was Head of the Patent Department at Monsanto when she retired in 1977. She was active in many chemical organizations and held offices in several, one of which was the American Chemical Society. She was also active in a number of Catholic organizations serving in offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. For many years, Elizabeth worked effortlessly for the Ursuline Alumnae, holding several offices, primarily that of President. Elizabeth was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. She belonged to many church organizations at St. Patrick's and most recently was Vice President of the Altar Society after many years of serving as President. In 1995, Elizabeth was awarded the Papel Honor of the Cross for the Church and the Pope for outstanding contributions to the Church which was presented to her by Bishop Joseph Fiorenza in a special ceremony held at St. Mary's Seminary in Houston, Texas.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Sporar; her parents, Harry J. and Clara T. Fitzgerald; her brother, Harry J. Fitzgerald, Jr., and her sister, Edna Fitzgerald Johnston. She is survived by three sisters: Catherine F. Cunningham of Beaumont, Texas; Ruth F. Darrall of Roswell, Georgia; and Anna F. Kaiser of Galveston, Texas; one brother, John J. Fitzgerald of Galveston, Texas; two stepsons, John B. Sporar and wife, Sharyn, of Houston, Texas; and Marion Sporar of Jacksonville, Florida; nieces, Peggy Higginbotham and husband, Rick; Marilyn Sindall and husband, Bob; Jan Collard; Dr. Kathy Cunningham and husband, Randy Carey; Valerie Helms and husband, Ray; Elizabeth Ann Welsh and husband, Dave; Nancy Young and husband, Earl; and Carolyn Dibello; nephews: Wayne Darrall and wife, Joni; Michael Cunningham and wife, Charlotte; and Gary Fitzgerald and wife, Nyna; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston, Texas from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28th, led by Father John Paul Flajole, OFM, Parochial Vicar. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, November 29th, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Page Polk, OFM, as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery in Dickinson, Texas, under the direction of Malloy & Son Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ray M. Helms, of Texas City, Texas; John B. Sporar, of Houston, Texas; Gary Fitzgerald, of Houston, Texas; and Binky Macek, of Wharton, Texas.
