Vernie Christine Turner
TEAGUE — Services for Vernie Christine Turner, 82, of Teague, were held at 2 p.m. today, May 8, 2001 at Ricks Chapel in Teague with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officating. Burial followed at Driver Cemetery under the direction of Ricks Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Scott Parker, Adam Parker, Melvin Walker, Les Hines, Craig Hines and Ken Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Fohn, J.T. Walker, Bobby Walker and Gene Norton.
Mrs. Turner died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.
She was born Oct. 29, 1918 at Groesbeck and was employed as a LVN. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church at Mexia and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She also volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center at Teague, participated in the relay for live to fight against Breast Cancer and was a frequent blood donor donating nearly four gallons in her lifetime. She attended school in Mexia and in New London where she graduated in 1938.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Kate Norton; her three brothers, Vestor Norton, Robert Lee Norton and Henry Lee Norton; and three sisters, Mozzel Norton, Pauline Rhodes and Cora Mae Fohn; and her son, Sergeant Major Sam C. Turner.
Survivors include her husband, James C. Turner of Teague; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and David Parker of Austin; daughter-in-law, Earline Marie Turner of San Antonio; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Allen and Patricia Turner of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five newphews; and other family and friends.

Hilda Ligon Gildart
Services for Hilda Gildart, 96, longtime resident of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore with Rev. Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Burial will be at Kilgore City Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral home.
Mrs. Gildart died Sunday, May 6, 2001 in Longview.
She was born Sept. 20, 1904 in Kerrville and was an Elder Emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore and had also served for six years as a deacon. She had been chairperson of the worship committee and had served on many other church committees. She was a past president of the Women-of-the Church where she had served two years. She had also been a circle chairman and Bible Moderator several times. She was First Lady of Kilgore in 1983. She was a volunteer at Laird Hospital over nine years and was a life member at the time of her death. She was a volunteer at Helping Hands of Kilgore for several years. She had been active in PTA, serving one year as president of Laird Hill PTA in 1935-36 and for two years as President of Campus Ward PTA in 1938-40. She was also presented a life membership in PTA in December, 1983. She was twice president of the Kilgore Woman’s Club and had served as President of the Magic Windows Art Club of Kilgore, the Gregg Shrine Club and the Social Order of the Beauceants in Kilgore. She was a 50 year member of Kilgore Chapter No. 530, Order of the Eastern Star of Kilgore and was a charter member of Sharuhan Temple No. 127, Daughters of the Nile at Tyler.
She was preceded in death by husband, Gordon Gildart; youngest daughter, Joann Hill; and oldest daughter, Emagene Wind.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the scholarship fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore or to a charity of choice.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bonnie Robertson
Services for Bonnie Robertson, 87, of Kilgore are pending with Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore.
Mrs. Robertson died Sunday, May 6, 2001 in a Tyler hospital.

Danny “Joe” Bales
GLADEWATER — Graveside services for Danny “Joe” Bales, 38, of Kilgore will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 4, 2002 at White Oak Cemetery with Rev. Wade Duck and Larry W. Osborne officiating.
Born on Dec. 9, 1963 in Littlefield, Texas, he died on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002. He was a graduate of Gladewater High School and a pump repairman in the oil industry.
He is survived by his son, Dillon Bales of White Oak; mother and father, Billy and Molly Bales of White Oak; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Darla and David Wallace of Gladewater and Sherri and Terry Berry of White Oak; three nephews, John David Wallace of Gladewater, Kyle Duffee of Hallsville, and Wesley Berry of White Oak; one niece, Lauren Berry of White Oak; a special friend, Margaret Khan and her three children; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of friends.

Viola Splawn
Services for Viola Splawn, 90, a 50-year resident of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Riley Pippen officiating. Burial will follow in the Danville Cemetery.
Mrs. Splawn was born Sept. 25, 1911 in Henderson to Stephen and Carrie Burns. She worked for many years as a registered nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three sons, Sam Splawn of Iowa Park, Melvin Splawn of Hearne and Mike Splawn of Kilgore; a brother, Velton Burns of Dallas; two sisters, Rosie Rolland and Carrie Moon both of Longview; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

David L. Metz
HENDERSON — Services for David L. Metz, 62, of Henderson, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at Bryan Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson with Brother David Britt of Crims Chapel Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Crims Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Troy Whitlock, Tommy Rickman, Richard Pilgrim, Tony Steel, Bill Ward and Howard Williams.
Mr. Metz died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born Feb. 6, 1939 in Akron, Ohio. He was a member of the Baptist faith, employed as an operator and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Audrey Watson; and one brother, James Metz.
Survivors include his wife, Maurine Metz of Henderson; daughters, Patty Pilgrim of Henderson and Kathy Gates of Hallsville; sons, Leslie Marburger of Crevecouer, Ill., John Marburger of Leslie, Mo. and Carl Marburger of Greenville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Virgie Bridges
HAWKINS — Services for Virgie O. Bridges, 83, of Hawkins, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at Little Mound Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery under the direction of Beaty Funreal Home in Hawkins.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Bridges died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 in Tyler.
She was born Nov. 14, 1918 in Upshur County to John Clifton and AnnaBelle LaRue Clifton and she was a lifelong resident of East Texas where she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Bridges; one sister, Alice Lind Bauchanan; and three brothers, Billy George Clifton, Adrain Dow Clifton and Byron Clifton.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Ray Bridges of Hawkins and Donald Wayne Bridges of Hawkins; two daughters, Patricia (Susie) Ford of Hawkins and Linda Owen of Buffalo, Wy.; one brother, Jim Clifton of Lone Star; two sisters, June Wilkins of Kilgore and Jeane Callan of Big Sandy; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home in Hawkins.

Pambly Bernice (Bea) Dotson
Services for Pambly Bernice (Bea) Dotson, 85, of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Deacon Cliff Brunson officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Dotson died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 in Tyler.

Horace Wingfield
Services for Horace Wingfield, 90, of Kilgore, are pending with Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore.
Mr. Wingfield died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at his home.

Foster T. Bean
Services for Foster T. Bean, 98, longtime civic leader and former mayor of Kilgore, were 10 a.m. today, March 18, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. W.D. “Bill” O’Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Kilgore Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore
Pallbearers were Bob Schleier, Rex Whitten, Foster Harrison, Bill Kuers, Franz Spear, Jr., Dick Griffin, Rick Shore, and Peter Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers were Kilgore Rotary Club, officers of the First Presbytrian Church and Joe John Short.
Mr. Bean died Friday, March 15, 2002 at his home.
He was born July 27, 1903 between Kilgore and Laird Hill and was valedictorian of his Kilgore High School graduating class. He went to business school in Tyler before moving to Houston to become a stenographer for the Texas Company (TEXACO). While in Houston he went to the YMCA’s night law school classes to become an attorney. The classes are now South Texas School of Law an affiliate of Texas A&M. He worked as an attorney for days following the Lou Della Crim Oil discovery in 1930 and moved back to Kilgore in 1931. He practiced law in Kilgore for over 70 years. He was a longtime member and elder of the First Presbyterain Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club and had 66 years of perfect attendance, and was past district governor. He was mayor of Kilgore for over 20 years, one for the founders and first president of the Kilgore Federal Savings and Loan Association and longtime board member of the Citizens Bank.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, one brother and sister-in-law, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the East Texas Treatment Center in Kilgore.

Mrs. George E. (Gertrude) Barr
Services for Mrs. George E. (Gertrude) Barr, 93, a Kilgore resident since 1959, will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 18, 2002 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Robert Besser officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Caskey, Tom Young, Paul Caskey, Ryan Pevey, Jonathon Pevey, Joe Davidson, and Gene Caskey.
Mrs. Barr died Friday, March 15, 2002 in a Tyler hospital.
She was born Dec. 11, 1908 in Wakita, Okla., to Frank and Elma Byers. She was a 42-year member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and worked in sales at several Kilgore clothing stores. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, George E. Barr; and two brothers, Virgil and Richard Byers.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nelda and Charles Young of Jacksonville, Florida and Mary and Aubrey Price of Gladewater; four sisters, Mildred Misak and Wanda Evans both of Wakita, Okla., Lillian Guthrie of Amarillo and Lois Tames of Costa Mesa, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
