Maudie Davis Rayford
Services for Mrs. Maudie Davis Rayford, 86, of Temple, formerly of Kilgore, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Kilgore with the Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
Mrs. Rayford was born Sept. 3, 1915 in Coleman, Texas the daughter of the late William and Mamie Helton. She died Monday, March 11, 2002 in a Temple nursing facility. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kilgore and had been a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death were two husbands, Clyde Cotton and B.M. Davis; a son, William “Bill” Cotton; and five brothers, Loy, Charles, Dutch, King and Bailey Helton.
Maudie is survived by her husband, Vernon L. Rayford of Temple; a son, Larry W. Cotton, his wife Yolanda and children, Patricia, Raul and Jose; five grandchildren, Bob Cotton and wife Jana, David Cotton, John Cotton and wife Traci, Jim Cotton and wife Jamie all of Austin and Judy Cotton Mills and husband Dan of Johnson City; nine great-grandchildren, Ashley Cotton, Amber Cotton Gardner, Kate Sawyer, Tess Mills, Bailey Mills, Kenzi Cotton, Ben Cody Coton, Austin Davis Cotton and Bentley Cotton. She is also survived by two great-great-grandchildren, Tori Cotton and Nolan Gardner. Maudie was loved by many especially by Margaret Crim, Margaret Hopkins, Nancy Hendley, Robby Dale Nelson and Janet Cotton Bizzell.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bob Cotton, David Cotton, John Cotton and Jim Cotton, Dan Mills and great-grandson Ashley Cotton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 6 until 7 p.m.
Helen Amanda Landers
GILMER — Graveside services for Helen Amanda Landers, 97, of Kilgore, were 2 p.m. today, March 12, 2002 at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer with the Rev. James Griffin officiating. Burial followed under the direction of East Texas Funeral Home in Longview.
Mrs. Landers died Friday, March 8, 2002 in a local nursing facility.
She was born Aug. 4, 1904 in Meridian, Miss. to William Ray and Georgia Brunson. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Judson.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Richard Walters of Magnolia, Ark.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Richard S. Walters, Debra and Kris Compton and Jill and David Gray; and two sisters.
The family will greet friends before the service.
IRA C. WELLS
Graveside services for Ira C. Wells, 93, formerly of Kilgore, will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2002, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. Visitation is set for 6-8 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2002, at the Funeral Home.
Born July 12, 1909, in Mayesville, Ark., Mr. Wells died Thursday, September 12, 2002 in a Longview nursing center. Mr. Wells was a pioneer in the East Texas “Oil Patch.” In October of 1930, he established the first oil field service store in Overton from which he serviced the East Texas field as well as others in West Texas. After retiring, he worked as a volunteer in the Kilgore Oil Museum. As well as donating his time, he provided numerous pictures and memorabilia to the museum. He believed in maintaining the heritage of the East Texas Oil Boom. Mr. Wells also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include son and his wife, Michael and Kathy Wells of Longview; grandson and his wife, Jason and Melissa Wells of Silsbee, Texas; granddaughter and her husband, Adrianne and William Buck Taylor of Louisville, Ky.; and three great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jacob and Samuel Taylor.
His wife, Geneva Chandler Wells, and brothers Carson and Harold Wells, precede him in death.
Pearline Jackson
Services for Pearline Jackson of Kilgore were 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Fredonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Gray, pastor; Rev. Rickey Bell, eulogist; and Rev. B.B. Brown officiating the burial. Burial followed at Kilgore Memorial Gardens under the direction of Cunningham Funeral Home.
Ms. Jackson died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 in Tyler.
She was born to Robert and Mary Anthony Miller in San Augustine, and was a graduate of The Madam Walker School of Cosmetology in Dallas. She worked in the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Elder and was a beautician at the Peacock Beauty Salon for over 50 years and retired in 1988. She joined Macedonia Baptist Church, later known as Morning Star Baptist Church under the pasturage of Rev. J.J. Robinson. Ms. Jackson served as missionary president, a member of the choir, and Sunday school teacher until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marble Hawley; and one brother, Quincy Miller.
Survivors include one daughter, Jacqueline Smith of Tyler; one son, Rayfeal Thompson of Dallas; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one sister, Gertrude Limbrick of San Diego, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Era Dee Dry
Memorial services for Era Dee Dry, 88, of Kilgore, will be held at a later date, burial will be at Pruett Lake Cemetery in Avinger. Arrangements are under the direction of East Texas Funeral Home in Longview.
Mrs. Dry died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at a local nursing home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1913 in Hugh Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.M. Dry.
Survivors include two nephews, James W. Kenney of Kilgore and Charles Kenney of Fort Smith, Ark.; one niece, Gracie O’Quinn of Fort Smith, Ark.; and several great-grand-nieces and nephews.
JUNIOR RAY FLEMING
Private services for Junior Ray Fleming, 69, of Kilgore will be held at a later date under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mr. Fleming died Friday, Sept. 13, at his residence.
Junior Ray Fleming was born Jan. 30, 1933 in Price to the late John and Ruby Thomas Fleming. He married Betty Loraine Beasley on Oct. 18,1952 in Overton and moved to Kilgore in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from LeTourneau in 1995 after working there for 30 years.
He is preceded in death by one brother, Doyle Clyde Fleming and a son, Doyle Clyde Fleming.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Loraine Fleming of Kilgore; two sons, Wesley Fleming and James Lee Fleming both of Kilgore; one brother, James Edward Fleming; two sisters, Inez Davis and Emma Jean Fitzgerald of Lake Palestine; one grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
PEGGY RUTH WHITE
Funeral services for Peggy Ruth White, 53, of Kilgore, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at the Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery.
Mrs. White died Saturday in Kilgore.
She was born April 2, 1949 in Atlanta, Texas. Peggy lived most of her life in Kilgore. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and was employed with Southern Plastics in Kilgore.
Mrs. White is survived by her parents, Eldon and Mildred Leach of Kilgore; three daughters, Robin Rogers and her husband Mike of Overton, Angie Grimes and her husband Stephen of Kilgore and Amy Heisel and her husband Mark of Lufkin; two brothers, Jimmy Leach and his wife Mary Lee and Johnny Leach and his wife Judith, all of Kilgore; four grandchildren, Shelton, Dalton and Hudson Rogers of Overton and Macy Grimes of Kilgore; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Rader Funeral Home Monday between six and eight p.m.
Sgt. T. Allen Hale Jr. Retired
Graveside services for Sgt. T. Allen Hale Jr. Retired, 59, of Kilgore will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at the Danville Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Hardin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
Sgt. Hale died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at his home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday.

Richard “Ricky” Dean Kimbrell
Services for Richard “Ricky” Kimbrell, 44, of Kilgore will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Charles officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Kimbrell died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 in Kilgore.
He was born Oct. 12, 1958 in Mt. Pleasant to Richard and Mary Kimbrell. He earned a Kuwait Liberation Medal for his participation in Desert Shield and Storm. He received numerous academic, logistical and culinary achievement awards as well as many service medals including a South West Asia Service medal, the National Defense Medal and the Army Service Ribbon from the Army and Air Force during his career. He continued to serve his country in the Air Force Reserve and also worked as a Heaterman for Lebus Manufacturing and manager for The Clean Sweep.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley L. Kimbrell of Kilgore; two daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie and Chad Murphy of Gilmer and Connie Michelle Kimbrell of Kilgore; sisters and brother-in-law, Brenda and Ken Adams of Overton and Mary Ann Kimbrell of Stephenville; several nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Edwin L. Gage
Memorial services for Edwin Lancaster Gage of Kilgore will be 2 pm Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore. Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gage died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 in Temple.
He was born Aug. 11, 1912 in Ennis and spent the better part of his childhood in Dallas. He graduated from North Dallas High School in 1929 and later studied accounting in the very first class to enroll in Kilgore College in 1935.
He became a graduate in accounting and business administration, courses conducted by the Burroughs Company and the International Accountants Society. Five years ago, he reached the achievement of being among those Texas CPAs who had maintained their licenses for 50 years or more.
Fifty-seven years ago, Mr. Gage founded an accounting and insurance firm, The Gage Insurance Agency, which he operated until the early 1980s. In retirement, he served in the East Texas Oil Museum Docents Guild.
Mr. Gage was a respected businessman and civic leader, particularly in the First Presbyterian Church, and Rotary International. He moved to Kilgore in 1935 and became a member of the Federal Tender Board and later, the Pan American Pipe Line Company.
He was an energetic Rotarian and he and his wife traveled worldwide to International Rotarian conventions. They were citizens of the world and for several years were hosts to diverse foreign exchange students attending school in Kilgore. Mr. Gage served as president of the Kilgore Rotary Club and was eventually honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1977.
He served his country in the U.S. and Midway Island in the Western Pacific in World War II as a member of the United States Navy Construction Battalion (Sea Bees). He was inducted into Who's Who in Texas in 1973, having distinguished himself by serving as president of the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club and the Knife and Fork Club. He was also an officer in Kilgore Community Concert Association and the Laird Country Club.
As an active Mason in Danville Lodge No. 101, he held a 32nd Degree in Waco Scottish Rite Bodies, and he belonged to Sharon Temple shrine. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Hughes McElwee Gage in 1979.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Rosemary Mullins of Temple, Jacquelyn and F. George Hatt Jr. of Fort Worth, and Florence Bass of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Kilgore First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund or to charity of choice.
