VIRGINIA LYNN CONNER

She was born on Feb. 19, 1939 in Alice, to Maurine (Bolt) and Irvine Hunter, and passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 in Kilgore. Virginia, known as Gigi to her seven grandchildren, graduated from Kilgore High school in 1956, and attended North Texas State University. In 1957 she married Tom Conner, also of Kilgore. Upon Tom's graduation from Texas A&M in 1961, Virginia and Tom set upon an adventure that would take them and their three boys literally around the world. Virginia, Tom and the boys moved from Texas to Louisiana and back to Texas, to Germany, to Virginia, to Saudi Arabia, back to Virginia, and finally back home to East Texas.
Each new place she lived brought its own excitement and memories. From the excitement of the first job out of college in Fort Worth, to the brief time of caring for twin infant girls in New Orleans her life was filled with hope. From the tulips of Amsterdam to the peaks of the Alps, from the castles along the Rhine River to white Christmases celebrated in the midst of the Kriskringle market in Nueremberg, Virginia's life was filled with the creation of lifelong family memories. From the apple orchards of Virginia to the star-filled nights of the Arabian Desert, her life was filled with fun and wonderment. And from the rolling hills of the Shennandoah Valley to the familiar sights and sounds of East Texas, Virginia's life was filled with the love of family and friends. She always praised God for His goodness and thanked Him for the love and grace that she received from Him through His Son, Jesus The Christ.
At each new place, Virginia was always fully engaged. From volunteering to help those in need to leading the charge at countless school fund raisers. She spent many years in the insurance business including owning her own agency, and worked in the school system both overseas and in the U.S. She was appointed as the first ever female school board member in Frederick County, Va.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tom Conner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Polly Conner of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Ross and Janice Conner of Olathe, Kan., and Judd and Sharon Conner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; sister, Julie Westrom of Dallas; two brothers and sisters-in-law; David and Katie Morgan of Spokane, Wash., and Daniel and Carol Morgan of Tyler; grandchildren, Ross, Jake, Kylie, Michael, Sam, Maddie and Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
