JOHN HALTMEYER
Memorial services for John Haltmeyer, 37, of Clarksville, Md., will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hampton officiating. Dr. Haltmeyer went home to be with the Lord Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 in Clarksville, Md.
He was born Jan. 15, 1966 in Marshalltown, Iowa, and moved to Texas with his family in 1969. They moved to Kilgore in 1978, and he graduated from Kilgore High School in 1984. He attended Kilgore College and other universities, culminating in a Ph.D. in computer science.
Mr. Haltmeyer started his own company “TriCerat” and served on the technology board of John Hopkins Medical Center. He had numerous patents and had designed computer programs, some of which are used in the White House.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Haltmeyer of Clarksville, Md.; his daughter, Michele Haltmeyer, 12, of Clarksville; his son, Nicholas Haltmeyer, 8, of Clarksville; his parents, Dr. Norman and Ilona Haltmeyer of Kilgore; siblings, Cheryl McCullouch of Madison, Miss., Tim Haltmeyer of Mission Viejo, Calif., James Haltmeyer of Kilgore and Debbie Haltmeyer of Little Elm.

AUTUMN RENE MUGAN
Graveside services for Autumn Rene Mugan, infant child of April Rene Bell and Adam Dean Mugan of Gladewater, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Autumn passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 in Kilgore.
Autumn is survived by grandparents, Patricia Bell of New London, Roxanne Bushbaum of Kilgore, William Bell of Elizabeth, La., and David Stevens; great-grandparents, Rosetta and Joe Cooley of Kilgore and Mary Bell of Elizabeth, La.; brother, Austin of Gladewater; and aunts and uncles, including Michelle and Mike Harris of Kilgore, Priscilla Stevens of Kilgore and Mike Bell of Kilgore.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Rader Funeral Home.
JAMES HOLLIS WHITE
Memorial services for James Hollis White, 71, of Kilgore are pending at Victory Funeral Services. Mr. White died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 in a nursing facility in Longview.
HAZEL ADELE LAIRD SMITH
Hazel Adele Laird Smith was received into the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003. She died peacefully in Houston following complications from multiple myeloma and diabetes. Hazel was the youngest of four children born to S.S. “Shack” Laird and Maude Paralee Dickerson Laird.
She was born in her childhood home on March 18, 1926 in Pistol Hill, Rusk County (now known as Laird Hill, Texas). It was there she grew up in the piney woods and the oil fields of East Texas. She graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas and continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Hazel made Austin her home for over 60 years. She was a charter member of the Wilshire Presbyterian Church and was a member of the University Presbyterian Church of Austin. For the last two years, Hazel had lived in Houston in order to be closer to her family.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Lois Laird Overton of Houston and Evelyn Laird Cashen of Kilgore. Her legacy continues by those who survive her.
The survivors include her children, Homer David Smith Jr. and fiancé Christine Nelson of San Antonio, Kay Lee Smith Werlin and husband Eugene of Houston, Sarah Frances “Sally” Smith of Rio Rancho, N.M.; grandchildren, Amy Katheryne Werlin, Eugene David Werlin, Maude Laird Werlin, all of Houston, Margaret Adele Smith of Portland, Ore., and Virginia Laird Smith of San Antonio; brother, M.W. “Pete” Laird of Energy; brother-in-law, Herbert Cashen of Kilgore; a special godchild, Jack Kyser of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and loyal friends.
Graveside services for Hazel Adele Laird Smith were 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 at the Thompson Family Cemetery at Laird Hill.

Services for Margine “Sweetie” Neal of Dallas, formerly of Kilgore, will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at New Hope Church of Christ in Kilgore with Michael Wilburn officiating. Burial will be at Union Post Oak Cemetery directed by Craig Funeral Home.
Family hour will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Singing Hills Church of Christ, 805 E. Laureland, Dallas.
Survivors include her children, Saundria Tillman Roberson and Orell Williams; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Norman Bonds, 62, of Kilgore will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl W. “Buddy” Duggins officating. Burial will be at Hickory Gorve Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bonds died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Laird Memorial Hospital.

Services for Vernon Whetstone, 60, of Henderson are pending with Southern Funeral Home of Henderson. Mr. Whetstone died Friday, March 5, 2004 at his home.
DONNELL WILSON
Services for Donnell Wilson, 98, of Overton will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Scott’s Memorial C.M.E. in Overton with the Rev. Emem Umoh and Theodora Green officiating. Burial will be in Overton City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Henderson.
Mr. Wilson died March 2, 2004 at the University of Texas Health Center in Tyler. He was born Feb. 9, 1906 in Crocket and had lived most of his life in Overton.
A member of Scott’s Memorial C.M.E., he was last employed at Morning & Miller Pipe Company in Overton.
Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Emma Brummble Wilson; wife, Willie Mae Wilson; and eight children.
He is survived by sons, Alfonza Wilson of Overton, Jerry Wilson of Fort Worth and James Wilson of Dallas; daughters, Lena Mae Ford of Grand Prairie and Marilyn Ruth Wilson of Overton; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Steven King, Clinfton King, John Sanders, John Lee and Michael Sanders.
MARION JEANNETTE WATSON
Services for Marion Jeannette Watson, 28, of Henderson will be noon Monday, March 8, 2004 at Macedonia Baptist Church of Overton with the Rev. Willie J. Bryant, Edgar Tatum and Leonard Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pirtle Cemetery in Overton.
Miss Watson died March 3, 2004 in Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. She was born Jan. 30, 1976 in Tyler. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Watson of Henderson; father and step-mother, Murphy and Elaine Watson of Henderson; grandmother, Eddie Pearl Watson; sisters, Terry Freeney, Rita Walton, Abigail Walton and Yolanda Duffie; brothers, Murphy Walton Jr., Michael Walton, Adolphus Murphy and Bryan Freeney; as well as many aunts, uncles, great-aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Juanita Walker, Raquel Williams, Meko Watson, Latavia Palmer, Raqueta Williams, Theresa Jackson, Gwen Watson, Renea Watson, Valeria Kind and Barbara Harley. BARBARA SPARKS RILEY
Services for Barbara Riley, 56, of Carthage, formerly of Kilgore, were 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Reed officiating. Burial was in the Long Branch Cemetery, Panola County. Mrs. Riley died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at her home in Carthage following a lengthy illness.
Pallbearers were Walter Sparks, Charles Simpson, Cal Sparks, Doyle Riley, Jim Ivy and Bobby Darrell Reid. Honorary pallbearers were Max Sparks and Larry Sparks.
She was born April 2, 1947 in Carthage. Mrs. Riley was a homemaker and a member of the Carthage Missionary Baptist Church in Carthage.
She is survived by her daughter, Angie Reid Jorgensen and her husband Richard Jorgensen of Plano; a son Bobby Darrell Reid of Carthage; her mother, Mae Kelley of Carthage; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Malcolm Sparks of Henderson, Eddie and Linda Sparks of Kilgore, Larry Sparks of Carthage; two granddaughters, Ellen Reid and Anna Windsor of Kilgore; three aunts; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Riley; father, Ernest Sparks; and granddaughter, Patricia Faith Butts.

Services for Justin Barr, 23, of Kilgore are pending at Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Mr. Barr died Thursday, April 29, 2004 in Kilgore.
PRECIOUS MARY JANE MCWHORTER
Services for Precious Mary Jane McWhorter, 94, of Longview will be two p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel of Kilgore with the Reverend A.D. Spear and Reverend Tim Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Grice Cemetery, Grice, Texas. Mrs. McWhorter died Thursday, April 29, 2004 in Longview.
She was born April 1, 1910 in Temple, Oklahoma. Mrs. McWhorter attended public schools in Mineola, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. She moved to Longview in 1934 where she raised her family. Mrs. McWhorter was a member of the United Pentecostal Church. Later in life, she moved back to Mineola and went to nursing school where she obtained her LVN. She was a homemaker and a seamstress.
Mrs. McWhorter is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Edith V. and Deo E. Welch, Jr. of Longview, L. Claudette and Earle Stairs of Lehigh, Florida, Alice G. and Charles Dryden of Longview; a son-in-law, Farris Stanford of Longview; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lin McWhorter and a daughter, Lois Lewellin Stanford.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore Friday evening between six and eight p.m.
BENNIE STARLING
Services for Bennie Starling, 91, of Mt. Enterprise will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Union Spring Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise with the Rev. J.W. Johnson and minister Ruby Creel officiating. Burial will be in Hall’s Cemetery, Mt. Enterprise, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Henderson.
Mr. Starling died Wednesday, April 28, at East Texas Medical Center, Jacksonville. He was born March 30, 1913 in Longbranch. He was a member of Union Spring Baptist Church.
His parents, Ben and Stella Starling, and two children precede him in death.
He is survived by a son, Lonnie Starling of Blythe, Calif.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Lillie and Jessie Lewis of Mt. Enterprise, Brenda Medford of Greenville, Very and Ervin Johnson of Terrell and Cora and the Rev. Robert Lane of Nacogdoches; one sister, Martha Ann Johnson of Lubbock; one brother, Mozelle Starling of Longbranch; a special grandson, Jessie Lewis; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a special niece and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jessie B. Lewis, Cleaven Nobles, Rayland O’Quinn, L.D. Cartwright, Calvin Creel, Lester Hodge and Brian Townsend.
