JAMES WESLEY COOPER
Services for James Wesley Cooper, 48, Chandler, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the East Texas Funeral Home of Longview with Rev. Larry Hutto officiating. Burial will follow in the Danville Cemetery with arrangements by the funeral home.
Mr. Cooper died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002.
He was born Oct. 9, 1953 in Houston to James Ervin and Ruby Cooper. He was a longtime area resident and a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Cooper of Chandler; four daughters, Jaci Reeves and Kimberly Williams both of Kilgore, Staci Pack of Pittsburg, and Courtney Cooper of Chandler; two sons, Chase Perry of Chandler and Jason Baker of Altus, Ark.; two sisters, Carolyn McInturff of Kennedale, and Charla Sharp of Kilgore; brother, Ervin Cooper; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Delia Mumphrey
Services for Delia Mumphrey are pending with Cunningham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mumphrey died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 in Dallas.
MARIANNA CARTER-ADCOCK
Services for Marianna Carter-Adcock, 68, of Lake Cherokee will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Paul Phillips and Oliver Rudd officiating. Burial will follow in Rusk County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Carter-Adcock died Sunday afternoon in Tyler, Texas.
She was born January 10, 1935 in Kilgore, Texas. Mrs. Carter-Adcock was Executive Secretary for over 15 years to Fulton Johnston at the Johnston-Lawrence Company. She was a member of the Laird Hill Methodist Church for many years. Mrs. Carter-Adcock was currently a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Tyler. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and wife.
Mrs. Carter-Adcock is survived by her husband, Floyd J. Adcock of Lake Cherokee; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and David O. Swain of Tyler; son, James Clay “Jim” Carter, Jr. of Leverett’s Chapel; brother and sister-in-law, Dovie Lee and Jeanie Bryan, II of Lake Cherokee; granddaughter, JoAnna E. Swain of Tyler, and her fiancé, Timothy A. Schultz; a niece and her husband, Lisa Bryan and Master Sergeant Michael Taylor of Ft. Dix, New Jersey; and a great-nephew, Lane Taylor of Ft. Dix, New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.C. Carter in 1994, and her parents, Dovie Lee and Eunice Pauline Bryan, Sr.
The family will receive friends at the Rader Funeral Home Tuesday evening between 7 and 9 p.m. The family will be receiving friends at Friendship Baptist Church, located at 2900 Stone Road in Kilgore.

BEN HAYES
Graveside services for Ben Hayes, 67, of Kilgore were 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the Kilgore Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hayes died Saturday, March 15 at Hospice Home Place in Tyler after a long illness.
He was born in Mount Vernon, Ill., Sept. 6, 1935, the son of the late James and Madge Hayes. Mr. Hayes had been a resident of Kilgore since 1973. He worked for the City of Kilgore Water Department for over 20 years, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his four sons, Danny Hayes of Fort Worth, Benny Hayes and wife Tammy of Fort Worth, Steve Hayes and wife Kay of Kilgore and Chesley Hayes and wife Delissa of Shreveport, La.; five daughters, Mary Soares and husband Jeff of Kilgore, Georgia David and husband B.J. of Irving, Sunday Sharrer and husband Kevin of Kilgore, Dusty Fussell and husband Kelly of Houston and Tracy Hayes of Kilgore; three brothers, Ed Hayes of Halletsville, Roy Hayes of Fort Worth and Jack Hayes; four sisters, Joyce Murphy of Tyler, Gloria Owens of Mount Vernon, Ill., Rachel Murray of Tyler and Merita Bostick of Tyler; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Hayes; two daughters, Nancy Meyer and Pamela Hayes; two brothers, Bob Hayes and Joe Hayes; a grandson, Zachary Hayes; and a great-grandson, Justin Harlow.
C.R. “JACK” LITTLE
LONGVIEW — Services for C.R. “Jack” Little, 85, of Longview will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at the Welch Funeral & Memorial Center Chapel, with the Rev. Milton Black officiating. Burial will follow in Judson Cemetery. Mr. Little died Saturday, March 15 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 6, 1917 in Teague. Mr. Little graduated from Mildred High School, where he was on the football team, and he attended the University of Southern California and the University of California at Los Angeles.
Mr. Little joined the U.S. Army in June, 1940, and was promoted to sergeant within a year. He was stationed at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, Calif. and in the Philippines. He received an honorable discharge in December 1946 and immediately moved to Longview.
He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the Endowment Board and worked closely with the Vestry and was an usher for the 8 a.m. service. For many years, he also oversaw the operations of the Trinity Conference Center.
He was a member of the Longview Chapter, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the AARP, and a former member of the Lake Cherokee Water Company. He made generous contributions to the Highway 80 Rescue Mission.
He was a senior operations engineer for Dresser-Atlas, covering eastern Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi until his retirement.
Mr. Little was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Doby Little; his parents, C.H. and Sarah-Ethel (Sandifer) Little; and one sister, Roma Fay Little Jinkins.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John R. “Bobby” and Sheryl Little of Ringgold, La.; a sister, Suzann Little of East Haddam, Conn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece and two nephews.
CLAUDE OWENS
WINFIELD — Graveside services for Claude Owens, 88, of Longview were 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 in the Winfield Cemetery, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Owens died Saturday morning in a local hospital.
A native of Groesbeck, he was born July 28, 1914 and had lived in Longview since 1975. He graduated from Crozier Technical School in Dallas and then East Texas State University in Commerce, which he attended on a four-year football scholarship. He received his bachelor and master of science degrees from East Texas State.
Mr. Owens was a professor and football coach at Kilgore College for 20 years and then moved to Richardson and helped establish Dallas County Community College where he retired. Upon retirement, he returned to Longview.
He was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church, Oil Patch RV Club and member of the Kilgore East Texas chapter of Southwest Officials, American Vocational Association, American Technological Association, Texas Technological Association, Texas Junior College Teachers Association and past president of Texas Association of Post/Secondary School Administrators.
Mr. Owens served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Helon of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Beth Owens of Denison; daughter and son-in-law, Jane Ann and Scott Layton of Plano; a sister-in-law, Dot Freeman of Arlington; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
JONATHAN FRANK MESSIMER
Mass of Christian burial for Jonathan Frank Messimer, 21, of South Bend, Ind., formerly of Longview, will be held noon Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Father Mark Dunne officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 in the funeral home chapel, 1617 Judson Road, and the family will receive friends at 5:30 p.m. prior to the rosary.
Jonathan was born on Nov. 9, 1982 in Longview to Allen and Athleen Messimer. He passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2004 in a Tyler hospital.
He was a 2001 graduate of Longview High School, was an art student, had attended Kilgore College and had plans of attending the Marimount Art School in New York. He worked for Nintendo graphics, enjoyed fencing and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Melton and Ruth Messimer; maternal grandfather, Frank Bridge; and uncle, Phillip Frank Bridge.
He is survived by his father and step-mother, Allen and Sherry Messimer of South Bend, Ind.; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Charity Messimer of South Bend, Ind.; maternal grandmother, Rebecca Bridge of South Bend, Ind.; nephew, Conner Messimer; aunt and uncle, Kathleen and Paul Skinner of Fort Worth; great-aunt, Mary Grimes of South Bend, Ind.; cousins, Rebecca and Kellan Skinner; and his loving girlfriend, Stephanie Parson of New London.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the Parson family for their support during Jonathan’s illness.

WILLIAM “PETER” ANDREW KENNEDY SMITH
Funeral services for William “Peter” Andrew Kennedy Smith will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Kilgore Baptist Church with the Revs. Kenneth Johnson Sr. and Donald E. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Kilgore Memorial Gardens under the direction of Stanmore Funeral Home. He died Jan. 13, 2004 in Longview.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 3, 1960 to the late William Andrew Kennedy and Addie B. Smith in Kilgore. Mr. Smith attended Kilgore public schools and was a member of the class of 1980. He was a member of Kilgore Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, brother Adolphus Kennedy Smith, sister Shelia B. Smith and infant son Ja’maar Taylor Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Addie B. Smith of Kilgore; brother, the Rev. Donald E. Smith of Dallas; sisters, Patricia Smith and Shirley Smith Dews, both of Kilgore, and Katherine Henderson Caldwell of Gilmer; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at church from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday.
TRAVIS ROBERTS
Masonic graveside services for Travis Roberts, 93, of Arp will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at Ebenezer Cemetery. Burial is under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Mr. Roberts passed away Jan. 9 in Tyler.
Mr. Roberts was born Aug. 1, 1910 in Willow, Okla., to the late Okla and Lovie Bowman Roberts. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Overton. He retired from East Texas Saltwater Disposal Company after 40 years of service as a field supervisor.
He was a Master Mason at Canton Lodge #98 and had just received his 60-year pen. He was a cattleman and a rancher. He was the director of the Rose City Bridge Club for 20 years and was past president of East Texas Bridge Association Unit 225.
Mr. Roberts is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Paula B. Roberts.
He is survived by his son, Chris Roberts and wife Janet of Arp; stepson, John H. Wright and wife Annah of Lake Tyler; four grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Canton Masonic Lodge #98 in Arp.
RUTH ANN WOOD
Services for Ruth Ann Wood, 54, of Kilgore will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, with the Rev. Mark Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Wood Cemetery, Gladewater. Mrs. Wood went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 9, 1949 in Mineola. Mrs. Wood was a caregiver and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ruby Nash, and a sister, Mary Lou McQueen.
She is survived by her husband, Albert George Wood Jr. of Kilgore; four daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Eugene Cook of Tyler, Sherry and Eric Tipton of Longview, Missy and Clay Whatley of Kilgore, Angie and Scott Morris of Kilgore; nine grandchildren; a sister, Dottie Petty of Kilgore; six brothers, Cecil Nash of Troup, John Nash of Chandler, Clarence Nash of Round Rock, Jerry Nash of Lindale, Jackie Nash of Quitman, Tommy Nash of Chandler; many nieces, nephews and family friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by many.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 6 and 8 p.m.
