BARBARA HANSON DAVIS
Services for Barbara Hanson Davis, 66, of Kilgore were 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Duggins officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Davis died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Kilgore.
Pallbearers were Gene Hanson, Bobby Hoover, Joe Ben Wolf, Jimmy Rogers, Dustin Walls and Johnny Bradley. Honorary pallbearer was Larry Hanson.
She was born in Gorman on Dec. 24, 1937 to Ed and Lena Hanson. Their family moved to Kilgore when Barbara was a child. She was raised in the Church of Christ. Mrs. Davis was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Kilgore High School. She attended Kilgore College. Barbara worked at Beall's Department store and retired from Laird Hospital as a telephone switchboard operator.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, James “Slick” Davis of Kilgore; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gaylynn Ellerd of Kilgore and Jacqueline and Gregory Allen of Overton; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Bruce and Mary Hinton of Liberty City; three grandchildren, Tera Van Meter Hernandez of Tyler, Dustin Walls of Overton, Abby Hinton of Liberty City; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her first husband, J.W. “Buzzy” Ellerd.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville Masonic Lodge #101, P.O. Box 786, Kilgore, Texas 75663, or to the American Cancer Society.

W.C. NEWKIRK
Services for W. C. Newkirk, 81, of White Oak were 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at White Oak Baptist Church with the Revs. Wade Duck and James Kirkland officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Longview.
Pallbearers were Riley Crocker, Gail Henson, Jon Newkirk, Jeb Newkirk, Charlie Hawkins and Pat Hawkins.
He was born May 22, 1923 in Jessieville, Ark., the son of the late Calvin and Minnie Newkirk. Mr. Newkirk retired as a chief petty officer in the United States Navy and served our country during WWII. He worked for the Civil Conservation Corps and retired as a national life insurance agent. Mr. Newkirk was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church.
Mr. Newkirk is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharlet Newkirk of White Oak; two grandsons and their wives, Jon and Joanna Newkirk of Georgetown and Jeb and Kristal Newkirk of White Oak; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kinney Lois Newkirk, and brothers, Wiley and Albert Newkirk.

PAULINE JULIA WINGFIELD
Services for Pauline Julia Wingfield, 91, of Kilgore will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Besser and Frank Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Mrs. Wingfield passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Kilgore.
She was born Sept. 25, 1912 in Okalona, Ark., the daughter of the late James Sloan and Nancy Elizabeth Clark Wingfield. Mrs. Wingfield attended Henderson-Brown University where she earned a degree in education specializing in mathematics. She also coached girl’s basketball. She worked along side her husband and family at Wingfield Builders Supply of Kilgore for over 54 years. Mrs. Wingfield was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Wingfield is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Annell Wingfield of Kilgore; a son-in-law, Carl Evans; five grandchildren and their spouses, Lance and Amy Wingfield of Kilgore, Matthew Evans of Atlanta, Ga., Shannon Wingfield of Tyler, David Evans of Columbia, S.C., and Julia and John Mager of Kilgore; four great-grandchildren, Lisa Anne Wingfield, Ariel Elizabeth Wingfield, Adalina Marie Mager and Amelia Mei Wingfield, all of Kilgore; as well as a host of cousins and other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lee Wingfield; daughter, Sally Jane Evans; four sisters; and eight brothers.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Tuesday evening between 6 and 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 401 E. Main, Kilgore, Texas 75662.

DALLAS DALE HJORT
Dallas Dale Hjort was born Nov. 10, 1920 in Lake Stevens, Wash. He grew up and attended school in Sturgis, Mich. Moving to Texas in 1952, he was a manufacturers representitive in the tool and die industry until his retirement in 1978.
They moved to Kilgore in 1987 to be closer to his family and spend his days the best way he knew. That was playing golf with Dutch Harris, G.W. Troboy, Karl Edmonds, Jack Skipper, Ed Ferguson, Red Burton and others.
He was a loving devoted husband and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hunter Hjort, and a grandson, Lee Carlton Hunter.
He is survived by a stepson, James D. Hunter of Angel Fire, N.M.; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kennedy Reinhart; grandchildren, James A. Hunter of Kilgore, Julie and Tom Wightman of Rockwall and Cara & James Bell of Kilgore; great-grandchildren, Leanne Marie Hunter of Longview and Ja and Carrie Bell of Kilgore; nieces and nephews, Elmore Cammack of Brownsville, Anna Turlington Cammack of San Antonio, Ben and Louise Cammack of Kilgore, Bettye Grace and Joe Parks of Austin, Richard and Sue Parrish of Gladewater, and Gordon and Mary Lou Carlton of San Augustine, and a cousin, Kenneth Dillivan of Michigan. He leaves a legacy of love to his family, friends and special companion in his last years, Alice Haynes and her family.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Bruce Wells 2 p.m. at the Kilgore City Cemetery on Wednesday, May 26, 2004. Donations can be made to the Liberty City Baptist Church Building fund.

DAVID RICHARD PECK
Graveside services for David Richard Peck, 54, of Kilgore will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Kilgore Memorial Gardens. Mr. Peck passed away Wednesday, April 14, in Longview.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Reyes, Larry Gaudet, Mack Gaudet, Bill Crouch, Billy Crouch and Dan Crouch.
Mr. Peck was born Nov. 15, 1949 in Kilgore, the son of the late Robert and Jeff Peck. David was a graduate of Kilgore High school. He attended Kilgore Junior College where he played on the basketball team. Mr. Peck also attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Mr. Peck worked in the newspaper industry in the field of advertising. David will always be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Mr. Peck is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Cindy Peck of Longview; one niece, Ashley Paige Peck of Longview; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Margaret’s House Greater Hospice of East Texas, P.O. Box 9725, Longview, Texas 75608.

GLEN H. BAKER
Glen H. Baker, 67, of Mont Belvieu was born Aug. 13, 1935 in Warren, Ark., and died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in a Baytown hospice.
He retired from Rohm & Haas with over 39 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mont Belvieu, where he served as chairman of deacons.
Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Mont Belvieu with Rev. Walton Strickland and Rev. Glenn Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Dikes, Vernon Ferguson, Richard Barrow, Floyd Hill, Wayne Hickman, Keith Foster, J. Kinney, and Steve Barrow.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Baker of Mont Belvieu; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and April Baker of Katy and Jeff and Tricia Baker of Baytown; daughter, Kristie Baker of Mont Belvieu; brothers, Wallace Baker of Porter, Richard Baker of Garland, and Gene Baker of Longview; and grandchildren, Jordyn Baker, Jessica Baker, and Kortney Baker.
Services are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown.

HOMER E. FLOREY JR.
Services for Homer E. Florey Jr., 69, of Overton will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 , in the Overton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. John Whitehurst, Rev. Atwell Hankins and Ronnie Gill officiating.
Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home.
Mr. Florey died Monday, Nov. 4. He was born April 13, 1933, in Baton Rouge, La., to the late Homer E. Flory Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Victoria Florey.
Mr. Florey was a lifetime resident of Overton. He was a graduate of Miller High School in Corpus Christi and Del Mar Junior College. He received a bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M-Kingsville. Mr. Florey coached for Raymondville ISD, St. John’s, Ennis, Bishop T.K. Gorman High School, Tyler ISD and Overton ISD.
Mr. Florey was an Army veteran and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Overton. He married Jean Stafford in Pecos on Sept. 13, 1958. He visited downtown Overton daily.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jean Stafford Florey of Overton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Barbara Florey of Flint, Scott and Tina Florey of Overton, and Shannon and Sharon Florey of Henderson; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen “Bud” and Donna Stafford of Santa Clara, Utah; six grandchildren and two nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Gill, Fred Weiterman, Dean Carter, Harold Bobbitt, Randy Speake and William Berryhill. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Agee, Jim Broussard, John Grant, John Grigsby, Marvin Thompson and Ron Wilson.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Overton, or to the charity of one’s choice.

PAULINE GATLIN SMITH
Services for Pauline Smith, 82, of Liberty City will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 in Longview, Texas.
She was born Nov. 24, 1920 in Gladewater, Texas to Claude and Bittie Gatlin. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Liberty City.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nelda and John Allen of Liberty City, Earlann and John Ammons of New London; four grandchildren, Rhonda Kirkpatrick of Crosbyton, Penny Pike of Longview, Jennifer Glover of Longview, Justin Allen of Liberty City; five great-grandchildren, Tylo and Zack Kirkpatrick of Crosbyton, Austin and Madison Pike of Longview, River Glover of Longview; twin sister, Alyene Angel of Gladewater; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Thursday evening between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Liberty City, Building Fund, 4714 FM 1252 West, Kilgore, Texas 75662 or the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Smith; a brother, Elwyn Gatlin; and her parents.

JAMES ATHENS PERRY
Funeral services for James Athens Perry, 47, of Kilgore will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Victory Funeral Services Chapel with Bro. Larry Jackson officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.
Mr. Perry was born in Carthage to Emma Perry Galloway and Benford Jones on Feb. 27, 1956. He departed this life on Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 in Rusk County.
Through the years, he attended the Baptist church. His main hobbies were fishing, gardening, writing, and he also enjoyed the natural talent of working with his hands.
He attended Kilgore public schools and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1975 where he was an outstanding athlete in football. He also ran track and threw the shot put. He attended Louisiana Tech University in Rushton, La., for three years where he also played football. This college experience led to his playing semi-professional football for the Shreveport Steamers and to having a short professional stint with the Birmingham Stallions of the now defunct USA Football League.
In early adulthood, he married Glenda Dale Bell and two children were born to this union. Later he married Billie K. Perry, who preceded him in death. Many years were spent with his special soulmate, Debbie Harkless, prior to her death.
His parents and stepfather, Willis Thurmond, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Anika Perry of Suisum, Calif., and Cochetta Davis of Dallas; one son, Roderick Perry of Suisum, Calif.; four sisters, Virgie Van Zandt of Henderson, Penny Marshall of Carthage, Flossie Roberts of Fort Worth and Cora Reddic of Dallas; two brothers, Elijah Perry of Liberty City and Willie Jones of Houston; five aunts, including Bernice Arnold and Crezetta Thurmond of Kilgore; three uncles, including Norman Rossum of Kilgore; four godchildren; a very special friend, Hazel Helms of Henderson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
There will be no public viewing.
