Viola Splawn
Services for Viola Splawn, 90, a 50-year resident of Kilgore, were 10 a.m. today, Feb. 5, 2002 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Riley Pippen officiating. Burial followed in the Danville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Splawn, Kelly Splawn, Brian Splawn, Kenneth Turlington, James Phillips, Larry McNeese and Joe Parker.
Mrs. Splawn was born Sept. 25, 1911 in Henderson to Stephen and Carrie Burns. She worked for many years as a registered nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three sons, a brother, two sisters, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Delialah Powe Mumphery
Services for Delialah Powe Mumphery will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 at the Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church with Elder A.R. Mayfield as presiding elder and Pastor and Elder W.C. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Cunningham Funeral home.
Mrs. Mumphrey died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 in Dallas.
She was born May 31, 1898 to Rev. Richmond and Lula Powe and attended public schools in Smith County. She accepted Christ at an early age and had a natural talent for music. She ws a member of the Church of the Living God on County Line.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alford Mumphery, Cleveland Taylor and Jace Harrage; and three sons.
Survivors include her three daughters, Doris Mauldin of Winona, Dorothy Darden of Willingboro, N.J. and Shirley Allen of Dallas; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren ; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
A wake will be held at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

LAURA ELIZABETH HUMPHREY
Services for Laura Elizabeth Humphrey, 56, of Kilgore will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Don Beebe officiating. Burial will follow in the Middlebrooks Cemetery. Mrs. Humphrey died Monday, March 10, 2003 in Kilgore. She was born January 28, 1947 to Billy and Johnette Dorris in Kilgore. Mrs. Humphrey attended Kilgore schools, was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Jack Humphrey of Kilgore; three sons, Douglas Humphrey of Longview, Bill Edward Humphrey of New London and George Eliot Humphrey of California; sister, Jana Upshaw of Austin; one grandson, Jacob Humphrey of California; a dear friend, Paula Humphrey of Longview; and several nieces and nephews. C.L. JOYNER Graveside services for C.L. "Slim" Joyner, 82, of Leverett's Chapel were 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the Rusk County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bryan Nutt officiating. Mr. Joyner died Sunday, March 9 in New London. Serving as pallbearers were Dustin Smith, Brandon Joyner, Leon Jones, Paul Joyner, Jason Joyner, Guy Howell and Mark Sellers. He was born Oct. 6, 1920 in Wichita Falls. Mr. Joyner served his country in the Army during WWII. He was an electrician for Woodard Electric for more than 30 years before retiring. Mr. Joyner was a member of the local IBEW for more than 50 years and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lydia Joyner of Leverett's Chapel; four sons and daughters-in-law, Cliff and Debbie Joyner of Leverett's Chapel, Paul and Linda Joyner of Leverett's Chapel, Tommy and Nancy Joyner of Houston, and Dickie Joyner of Liberty City; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Smith of Liberty City; two sisters, Willie Gibbs of Wichita Falls and Mildred Yeatts of Fort Worth; two brothers, Paul Joyner of Wichita Falls and Gilbert Joyner of Bakersfield, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. GREGORY COTTON DALLAS Ñ Services for Gregory Cotton of Dallas, formerly of Kilgore, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home in Dallas. A wake is scheduled 7 p.m. Friday, also at the funeral home, 6449 S. Houston School Road. Mr. Cotton died Saturday, March 9. He graduated from Kilgore Colored High School in 1953 and the University of Texas in Arlington. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albera Daniels and John Cotton of Kilgore, and his wife, Betty Adams Cotton. Mr. Cotton is survived by a daughter, Gretchen Cotton, and Tracey Serrell; brother, Elmer D. Cotton; sister, Betty Cotton Sentell; and three grandchildren.

WILLIAM ANDREW SMITH
Funeral services for William Andrew Smith (Peter) of Kilgore are pending at Stanmore Funeral Home. Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004.

HAZEL MILLER
Services for Hazel Miller, 88, of Overton are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church, Overton, with the Revs. Scott Stewart and Atwell Hankins officiating. Burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery, under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.
Mrs. Miller died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 in Temple. She was born July 4, 1915 in Fate County to the late Hub and Hattie Maynard Barringer. She was a longtime resident of Overton.
Mrs. Miller was a beautician and had owned her own beauty shop for several years. She had also worked as a florist.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Overton. She had served on the Overton Cemetery Board and was a member of the Overton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She married O.C. “Bugs” Miller March 28, 1932 in Durant, Okla. He preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1985. She was also preceded in death by daughter Mary Kay Grindle in 1992.
Survivors include two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Susan Grindle Green and Eric Green of Sugarland and Sally Grindle Garcia and Sean Garcia of Temple; a sister, Janie Wimpee of Rockwall; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dale Grandstaff, Dennis May, Jerry Wimpee, Ricky Wimpee, Joe Wimpee and Richard Harris.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the charity of one's choice.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14.

CLARENCE JAMES ROBUCK
Graveside services for Clarence James Robuck, 79, of Kilgore will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 at Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Robuck died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 in Longview.
Mr. Robuck was born in Ennis on March 27, 1924 to Lillie and Thester Robuck. He married Betty Sanders Herring in 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kilgore, American Legion and a proud veteran. He served in the Navy during World War II on U.S.S. Wayne. Mr. Robuck retired from Santa Fe Railroad as a railroad engineer.
Mr. Robuck is survived by his wife, Betty Robuck of Kilgore; brother, Bobby Joe Robuck of Spring; sisters, Kathrine Martin of Garland, Betty Lee Lemons of Lawton, Okla., and Francis Garcia; and many nieces and nephews.

JACK MERRILL HANKINS
Services for Jack Merrill Hankins, 90, of Kilgore were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Revs. Bill Blanks and Barry Metz officiating. Burial followed in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mr. Hankins died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 at his residence.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Allen, Mike Allen, Frank Agee, Charles Agee, John Bolton and Don Musslewhite. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Jones, Ryan Hankins, Wesley Hankins, Bill Allen, Mac Armstrong and Willie Frank Allen.
He was born Aug. 30, 1913 in Okmulgee, Okla., the son of the late James Alexander and Weltha Jane Ledford Hankins. He was the grandson of Samuel Jackson Ledford and Nancy Tioletto Maney Ledford, a Cherokee Indian from North Carolina.
Jack came to Gladewater in 1935 at the height of the oil boom in East Texas. He worked for Sells Petroleum Company until 1946 when he went to work for the Dia-Log Company. Jack worked as sales coordinator for Dia-Log until 1977 when he retired.
On Dec. 1, 2003 Jack and his wife, Flossie Agee Hankins, celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Jack was a member of the First Christian Church and was a strong believer in his faith. Until the end, God gave him the ability and the will to laugh with and enjoy his family and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his only child, Bob Hankins, in 1998 and three brothers, Leonard, Gerald and Claude Hankins, and one sister, Leila Hankins Bently.
He is survived by his wife; three grandchildren, Ryan Hankins of Dallas and Wesley and Heather Hankins of Midland; daughter-in-law, Marsha Hankins of Midland; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Bea Jones of Kilgore; and several nieces and nephews.

REV. GORDON P. JEFFREY
Funeral services for the Rev. Gordon Jeffrey, 77, of Kilgore will be 10 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin L. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services. Rev. Jeffrey died March 13, 2004 at East Texas Hospice in Tyler.
Public viewing will be from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Victory Funeral Services.

MARGARET CLAIRE NEWCOMB MADDEN
Graveside services for Margaret Claire Newcomb Madden, 83, Overton will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Chalk and Scott Stewart officiating. Private burial will be in the Overton City Cemetery.
Mrs. Madden died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 in Overton. She was born October 20, 1920 in Checota, Okla., to the late Horace G and Ethel Newcomb. She graduated from Overton High School in 1938 and attended Kilgore Junior College. She married Gilbert Madden in Overton, June 11, 1942. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as church secretary and Sunday school teacher. She was also active in Girl Scouts as camp director, troop leader, cookie sale director and teacher. She was well known in the East Texas area as award winning artist and as a private art teacher in Overton and Henderson, and she was a long time member of Magic Window Art Club of Kilgore and the Henderson Art League serving as president of both clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Madden, on Oct. 20, 1998, and a son-in-law, James R. “Jim” Pitts, on Oct. 14, 2003.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Claire Pitts of Overton and Carol and Bruce Riley of Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren, Leslie and Jeff Cain of Longview, Stephanie and Mark Owens of Quilan, Jim and Patti Pitts of Blooming Grove, Michele and Greg Higginbotham of Bucyrus, Kan., and Cody Riley of Overland Park, Kan.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the funeral home.

ROBERT LYNN LOVEALL
Memorial services for Robert Lynn Loveall, 65, of Sargent, former New London resident, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 in the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with the Rev. Atwell Hankins officiating.
Mr. Loveall died Sunday, March 7, 2004 in Sargent. He was born Oct. 24, 1938 in Shreveport, La., to the late Emmett Ray and Audra Ryan Loveall. He graduated from London High School in 1957 and attended Tyler Junior College and the University of Houston where he majored in civil engineering. He worked as a draftsman for the highway department and Exxon. In later years, he was a pipefitter and fabricator for U.S. Contractors and was a certified master craftsman. He also served in the National Guard.
He was an avid reader and history buff. He enjoyed fishing with his son, Skylar, and attending Skylar's athletic events. Skylar's coach said he rarely missed a practice or a game.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Karen Loveall and a brother, Jerry Loveall.
He is survived by a son, Skylar Loveall of Sargent; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Lynn and Major Chris Sharp of Las Vegas, Neva.; a step-son, Justin Phillips of Henderson; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Robert Williamson of New London, grandchildren, Catherine and Michael Sharp of Las Vegas, Nev.; two nephews; two nieces; and an aunt, Eva Asken of Shreveport.

BOBBIE CLAYBORN
Services for Bobbie Clayborn of Kilgore will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Steven Lawson, Billy Medlock, Ricky Lawson and Elder James Elder officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Stanmore Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Friday, March 19. Family visitation is from 6-7 p.m.
Mrs. Clayborn, affectionately called “Momo” and “Aunt Bobbie,” was second oldest of 13 children born in Alexander City, Ala., to the late Sim and Effie Cleveland Sr. She entered into a new life on Thursday, March 11, 2004. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.
Bobbie and her family moved in 1914 from Alabama to Mineola, where she grew up and graduated from Mineola schools. She united with Christ and was baptised at the St. Paul Baptist Church. She latered joined the New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Kilgore, where she remained as an active and committed member of this church until her health began to fail her.
Bobbie married her sweetheart, Cain C. Clayborn, in 1932. They had three children. A son, Melvin, preceded her in death.
During her lifetime of occupational pursuits, she was employed at Camp Fanin, Tyler, B&M Cleaners and Quality Cleaners in Kilgore, where she retired in 1974.
Bobbie was a loving “people person” who cherished young people and children. She remained young at heart and her love and big smile were infectious and inspirational. She enjoyed cooking a delicious meal, not only for her family but for anyone in the community who wanted to join in.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur L. and Betty Clayborn and Robert Clayborn of Fort Worth; one grandson, Arthur I. Clayborn II of Kilgore; one granddaughter, Marilyn Davis of Fort Worth; two great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.

DALLAS CARL CLYNCH SR.
A memorial service for Dallas Carl Clynch Sr., 79, of Dallas will be 1 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Arlington. A retired coach, he died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at a local hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle Clynch of Arlington; sons, Dallas Clynch Jr. of Arlington and Dane Clynch and wife Kim of Kilgore; brother, V.L. Clynch and wife Ruby of Arlinigton; and grandchildren, Brandy, Darren and Tabitha.
