RONALD LEE SLADE SR.
A memorial service honoring Ronald Slade, 61, of Liberty City will be 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the residence of Mr. Slade. Arrangements for cremation are by East Texas Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Slade was born Dec. 5, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Albert and Ruth Boarts Slade. He passed away Dec. 10 in a local hospital.
Mr. Slade served in the U.S. Army and has been a local resident since 1990. He loved family and spending time with grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Minor Slade of Liberty City; sons, Ronnie Slade Jr. and wife Lupe, Mike Slade and wife Rose, Tony Slade, Stacy Lee Cleveland and wife Elizabeth, Chad Slade and wife Gina, all of Monahans; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Ilene Darby of Tampa, Fla., Betty Brown of Kilgore, and Gertrude Ban Devender of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Clarence Slade of Independence, Iowa; an aunt; and many additional family members.

NONA PHINNIE
Memorial services for Nona Marguerite Powell Phinnie, 94, of Kilgore will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Longview, with the Rev. Kevin Wittmayer, and John Murphy, parish verger, officiating. Mrs. Phinnie died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Longview.
Interment of the cremains will be in All Saints' Garden of Trinity Episcopal Church immediately following the service. A reception for those attending the service will be held in the Guild Hall of the church following the interment. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
Mrs. Phinnie was born Sept. 1, 1909, in Corsicana. She attended Corsicana High School, where she was active in sports, after which she married Early Phinnie. They moved to Kilgore in 1931.
Spending her early years as a housewife and rearing their two children, Edna and Bill, she was a longtime worker with the Parent-Teacher Association. She subsequently worked for two decades with the Gertz and Lacy families, owners of the Toggery in downtown Kilgore. She was a talented seamstress and milliner whose work was well known and appreciated by many in Kilgore over the years.
Because Mrs. Phinnie's ancestors came from Wales to North Carolina in the 18th century, she was always very interested in her Welsh-Celtic heritage and frequently attended gatherings of her extended Powell family.
Mrs. Phinnie was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Longview, and a member of the Episcopal Church Women, with a particular interest in the beauty of the altar.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Edna and John Carlton McKay of Deer Park; son, William Phinnie of Kilgore; one brother, Woodrow Lee Powell of Rusk; two grandchildren, Rebecca Vincent and John Gregory McKay of Houston; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Phinnie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years in 1991, as well as by her parents, Mattie and John Jefferson Powell of Kilgore.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.

JO THREADGILL MAY
Services for Jo Threadgill May, 76, of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Besser and Ralph Rudy officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. May died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 in Kilgore.
Mrs. May was born Sept. 6, 1927 in Fort Smith, Ark., to J.W. and Margaret Matlock. She and her family moved to Joinerville in 1930. Mrs. May attended Gaston School and was a 1944 graduate of Kilgore High School before she attended Kilgore College. She became the secretary to the dean of Kilgore College, Cruce Stark. Jo Matlock married 1st Lt. Delmer Threadgill and moved to Japan. He was later killed in action in the Korean Conflict.
After moving back to Kilgore Mrs. May worked for East Texas Salt Water Company from 1958-1980. She married James May Nov. 19, 1966. Mrs. May was the office manager for May Engineering before they retired in 1991. She was a 60-year member of the St. Luke's United Methodist Church where she became a certified Lay Leader. Mrs. May was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 50 years and active in the Club Au Courant.
She is survived by her husband, James May of Kilgore; son and daughter-in-law, Del and Lane Threadgill of Dallas; two grandsons, Mat Threadgill of Dallas and Warren Threadgill of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Thursday evening between 5:37 and 7 p.m.

RODERIC WRIGHT HURLBURT JR.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Roderic Wright Hurlburt Jr., 70, of Kilgore will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kilgore with the Revs. Robert Besser and Ralph Rudy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Hurlburt died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 12, 1933 in Stowe, Vt., the oldest of two children, to the Rev. Roderic Sr. and Rhoda Maie Hollady Hurlburt. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served in Korea, and he retired from Vertex after 20 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Billye Hurlburt of Kilgore; children and spouses, Barry and Soheila Hurlburt of New Orleans, Craig and Lori Hurlburt of Chantilly, Va., Mark and Jill Hurlburt of Longview and Kim Hurlburt of Kilgore; brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Carol Hurlburt of Reston, Va.; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Ashlee, Andrew, Rachel and Kristopher Hurlburt, and Precious Lummus; two nieces and other loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19.

DARCY LYNN MCKINNEY
Services for Darcy Lynn McKinney, 41, of Liberty City will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Roger Hoffpowier and Don Beebe officiating. Burial will follow at Kilgore Memorial Gardens. Mrs. McKinney died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2004 in Longview.
Mrs. McKinney was born in Kilgore on Feb. 27, 1962 to Darrell and Mary Jo McKinney. Her brother, Arlin McKinney, and her father precede her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Long of Liberty City; daughters, Sarah Herrington of Athens and Erica Council and husband Scottie Craig of Kilgore; son, Trey Council of Longview; granddaughter, Mary Alyson Craig; mother, Mary Jo McKinney of Forney; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and John Starkey of Forney and Jodie and Clay Bushnell of Sour Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.
JIMMY MYERS
Services for Jimmy Myers, 71, of Kilgore will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenith Cline and Bro. Mark Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery. Mr. Myers died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 in Longview.
He was born June 30, 1932 in Harris, Okla. His family moved to Kilgore in 1938. When he was in ninth grade they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and he graduated from J Freemont High School. Mr. Myers served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He attended Kilgore College before going to work at East Texas Salt Water Company in 1961. Mr. Myers was a member of the Rusk County Democrat Club, where he was past president, and the International Association of Machinists (IAM) Union, Local Lodge 2641, Kilgore.
Mr. Myers is survived by his wife, Jimmie Myers of Kilgore; daughter, Susan Myers of Kilgore; an aunt; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Gladyce Myers.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

JOHN NIX
Services for John H. Nix, 80, of Marshall, formerly of Kilgore, were 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Webb officiating. Burial was in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Nix passed away Monday in Marshall.
Pallbearers were Doug Messer, James “Slick” Davis, Greg Murphy, Bill Walker, Joe Tolleson and Bill Lewis.
Mr. Nix was born Oct. 28, 1923 in Brown Springs, Ark., to the late Hansell and Beatrice Foster Nix. He was a member of the Summit United Methodist Church in Marshall. Mr. Nix was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved squirrel hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Nix served in the United States Army during WWII where he was a member of the 45th Infantry Division of the Thunderbirds. He was the recipient of numerous decorations and citations including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars and Bronze Indian Arrowhead and Good Conduct Medal. He was stationed in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and France where he was wounded. Mr. Nix was also involved in the Anzio Beachhead invasion. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and V.F.W. Mr. Nix was a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge #101.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Nix of Marshall; three children and their spouses, David H. and Mellisa Nix of Jefferson, Beverly and Edgar Rachal of Kilgore, Joni and Dallas Rogers of Marshall; brother, Chalma Nix of Azle; 10 grandchildren, John David Nix, Angle Nix, Clay Kumlangngam, Kahlan Alley, Renee White, Robin Tucker, Carrie Loy, Dallas Rogers Jr., Carmen Hinton and Karen Broyles; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family.
Lena Lee
Memorial services for Su Ching (Lena) Lee, 71, of Kilgore will be ten a.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Chuck Warnock officiating. Mrs. Lee died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 in Longview, Texas.
Mrs. Lee was born July 7, 1930 in Manchuria, China. Lena was separated from her parents when the Japanese invaded Manchuria China in 1937. She was a long time resident of Kilgore where many enjoyed her Chinese cooking. Mrs. Lee was a member of Church on the Rock.
She is survived by close friends, Chong Raif, Pam Bell, J. Raul and Tene Zapata of Kilgore. She will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband Mr.Suching Wang Lee.

Richard H. Cook
Services for Richard H. Cook, 68, of Silverdale, Washington will be two p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at the First Christian Church of Kilgore with the Reverends Chuck Warnock and Don Wirsdorfer officiating. Interment will be at the Kilgore Cemetery. Mr. Cook passed away Friday, March 29, 2002 in Longview, Texas.
He was born August 25, 1933 in Mexia, Texas to his mother Pat Cook and late father Lyman Hall Cook. Mr. Cook served our country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed at the Lakenheath Air Force Base in England. While living in London he met his wife Betty. After returning to the U.S. he worked for Geotech of Garland, Texas. Mr. Cook was relocated several times and finally in 1968 was moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. Mr. Cook owned and operated Dick and Don’s Texaco for fifteen years. He then was hired as a service manager, and then sales associate for Auto Service Co. in Fairbanks. Mr. Cook and his family had lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for over thirty-two years and just recently he and his wife Betty had moved to Silverdale, WA. Mr. Cook enjoyed running and participated in thirteen annual Klondike races. He was an active member of the Hillcrest Assembly of God Church in Bremerton, Washington. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Mr. Cook is survived by his wife of forty-six years Betty Cook; mother Pat Cook of Kilgore; four children and their spouses Michael Hall Cook of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kimentha Sue Cook of Denton, Texas, Patsy June and James Westcott of Juneau, Alaska and Samuel David and Teresa Cook of Manila, Philippines; four grandchildren Deanna Michelle Miller, Daniel Hall Cook, David Michael Cook and Kalen Ray Cook; great grandson Ashton Michael Cook; two sisters Patsy Weatherford of Benton, Arkansas and Sherry Spurgeon of Alexander, Arkansas; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Alice Suber
Services for Alice Suber, 80, of Kilgore, formerly of Troup, Texas will be one p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the brothers, Wesley Veazey and James Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery, Troup, Texas. Mrs. Suber died Thursday, March 28, 2002 in Kilgore, Texas.
She was born to Z.A. and Mary Bamberg, April 22, 1921 in Kilgore, Texas. Mrs. Suber was the valedictorian of her Sabine High School graduating class. She worked at Quality Cleaners for more than twenty years. Mrs. Suber was a former member of the West Duvall Baptist Church where she attended the Joy Sunday School Class and was a current member of the Kilgore Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her three sisters, Docia Bamberg of Kilgore, Rosalie Robertson of Tyler, Lois Harvey of Kilgore; many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Sam Suber, parents, three brothers, and a sister preceded Mrs. Suber in death.
The family will receive friends at the Rader Funeral Home Friday evening between six and seven-thirty p.m.
