Cashen, Herbert
Services for Herbert Cashen, 87, of Kilgore will be two p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, 501 East North Street, Kilgore with the Reverends Frank Mathews and David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson Cemetery. Mr. Cashen died Friday, February 4, 2005 at his home.
He was born March 4, 1917 in Heflin, Alabama. His family moved to Florence, Texas and Batson, Texas before moving to Overton where Herbert was a member of the 1933 Overton High School graduating class. He worked for the Gulf Oil Company in Houma, Louisiana and Burris, Louisiana. Mr. Cashen joined the Air Force January 1, 1941 where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. He married Evelyn Laird April 19, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After the War he moved to Kilgore.
Mr. Cashen had an entrepreneurial spirit, in addition to his oil and gas interests, he was one of the youngest Ford Dealers in the country when he owned the Dealership in Troup, Texas. Mr. Cashen later owned and operated the Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Kilgore. He operated one of the first taxicab companies in Kilgore as well as a paint manufacturing company. Mr. Cashen was a loving husband, father and friend.
He is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Herbert H. “Cash” Cashen, II and his wife Fran of Dallas, Shack B. Cashen of Dallas, Greg L. Cashen of Lake Cherokee; five grandchildren, Stacey Mitchel of Allen, Texas, Katie Cashen of Dallas, Scott Cashen of Dallas, Evelyn Cashen, II of Dallas, Harris Cashen of Dallas; one great-granddaughter, Meghan Parker of Allen; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Laird Cashen, July 31, 2003.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Friday evening between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.

Speer, Effie E.
Services for Mrs. Effie E. Speer, 95, of Kilgore will be held Monday, February 7, 2005 at Two O’clock in the Afternoon at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with Mr. Ronnie Hogg officiating. Interment will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Speer passed away Friday at Gregg Home for the Aged where she had lived since 1995.
She was born February 19, 1909 in Normangee, Texas daughter of the late Norman and Ida Ellison. Mrs. Speer was a native of Leon County, Texas, the descendent of a pioneer central Texas family. She spent most of her life living in Gregg County, having moved to Gregg County with her family in 1938.
Mrs. Speer attended Normangee Public Schools and was a graduate of the Mary Hardin Baylor Academy in Belton, Texas. She continued her education at Hardin-Simmons, Sam Houston State and East Texas State Universities. She was a classroom teacher before moving to Gregg County.
In January of 1945 she took a position as the Librarian for the newly established Liberty City Library, which operated as a branch of the Kilgore Public Library. Her other responsibilities while working for Gregg County included bookkeeping for the Road and Bridge Department in Pct. 3. She retired in January of 1980 after 35 years of service with Gregg County.
She was a former member of the Texas State Teachers and Texas State Librarians Associations. Mrs. Speer was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the highway 42 Church of Christ.
Mrs. Speer is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Billy N. and Joyce Speer of Kilgore and Bobby L. and Latane Speer of Kilgore; one brother Dr. Joe Ellison of Bryan; two granddaughters Simone Gill of Kilgore and Kelli Speer of Kilgore; one grandson Biff and wife Cassandra Speer of Kilgore; one great granddaughter Madison Gill of Kilgore as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family.
Her husband Travis Harlan Speer precedes Mrs. Speer in death.
Reich, Norman
Services for Col. Norman Reich, 85, of Kilgore will be two p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Rabbi Heidi Coretz officiating. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery. Col. Reich died Sunday, February 6, 2005 in Kilgore.
He was born in Yonkers, New York, October 16, 1919, to Herman and Pauline Reich. Norman attended City College in New York. He was drafted in Roosevelt’s peacetime draft in early 1941. Colonel Reich was in the European Theatre During WWII. He married Camie Dell Reich in 1964. Colonel Reich retired from the United States Army in 1972. He and Camie Dell moved to Kilgore in 1972. Norm was an entrepreneur who enjoyed co-owning Kilgore Travel Agency at one time. He was a longtime member of the Kilgore Rotary Club.
Col. Reich is survived by his step-daughter, Harriet Hearne of Tyler; a step-son and his wife, Nick and Carolyn Hearne of Kilgore; two grandchildren, Jason and his wife Heather Hearne of Los Angeles, California, Angela Hearne of Seattle, Washington; three nephews, Steve Reich of Danbury, Connecticut, Randy Reich of New York City, Carl Miller of Phoenix, Arizona and a niece, Eileen Weinger of New York City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
Reed, Horace L.
Graveside services for Horace L. Reed, 72, of Kilgore will be ten a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the Kilgore Cemetery with the Reverend Paul Silvey and the Reverend John Grandberg officiating. Mr. Reed went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 10, 2005 in Longview.
He was born July 22, 1932 in Kilgore, Texas to Richard and Elsie Reed. Mr. Reed was a 1950 graduate of Kilgore High School. He served our country for two years in the United States Army. The Reeds lived in Orange, Texas from the mid 1950’s to 1969. Mr. Reed retired as a truck driver for Mobley Company. He was a member of the Stone Ridge Baptist Church.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Marline Reed of Kilgore; five daughters, Linda Brown of Kilgore, Rosemary and Jack Redfern of Marshall, Barbara and Gary Hassell of Kilgore, Diane and Rusty Bumgardner of Kilgore, Terry and Bill Smidansky of Spring; a brother, Ronald and Robyn Reed of Winnsboro; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Peggy Cubine.

Moore, Vicki Jean
Services for Vicki Jean Moore, 55, of Kilgore will be two p.m., Friday, February 25, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Danny Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in the Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Moore died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 in Longview, Texas.
She was born December 29, 1949 in Leveland, Texas. Mrs. Moore worked at the Community Inn for seven years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Moore was vibrant, generous and humorous. She enjoyed life and being outdoors.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband of 20 years, Roger Moore of Kilgore, the owner of Moore Well Service; her mother, Annie Hunt of Huntsville, Texas; children, Lisa Phelps of Kilgore, Darla Wimberley of Kilgore, Brad Goins of Kilgore, Jack Moore of Chandler, Shelley Nova of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Sandra St. Germain of New Hampshire, Regina Preece of Houston; one brother Danny Reeves of Abilene; an uncle, Bobby Ray Sanders of Huntsville; five brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
Her stepfather, R. D. Hunt and her father, Dorman Edward Reeves, preceded her in death.

Babcock, Dean
Graveside services for Dean Babcock, 43, of Liberty City, Texas will be held at two p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Pirtle Cemetery with Reverend Don Beebe officiating. Mr. Babcock died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 in White Oak.
Mr. Babcock was born in Ohio on June 14, 1961 to Edna Cole and Allen Babcock. He has worked in the oil field for the past 24 years. He loved his pit bull and he loved nascar racing.
He is survived by his loving wife Jerri Babcock of Liberty City; His son Dean Babcock of Mc Leod, TX.; three daughters Dakota Babcock of Mc Leod, Stormy Davidson of Liberty City, Georgia Ragan of Liberty City; three brothers Denney Babcock of North Carolina, Jim Clark of Burleson, TX., James Babcock of Miami, FL.; four sisters Darlene Glover of North Carolina, Kathy Kibbe of Florida, Lynn Clark of Burleson, Renee Babcock of Austin,TX.; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Hassell, O.M. "Millard
Graveside services for O.M. “Millard” Hassell, 72, of Kilgore will be ten a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the Danville Cemetery with the Reverend Freeman Pierce officiating. Mr. Hassell died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 in Longview, Texas.
He was born March 15, 1932 in Henderson, Texas. Millard was a lifetime member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Radford.
Mr. Hassell is survived by his wife Allene Hassell of Kilgore; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara Hassell of Kilgore; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Oglesby of Kilgore; a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Roy Dent of Lake Murvaul; a brother Terry Hassell of Panola County, Texas; an aunt, Gladys Gibson of Henderson, Texas; three grandchildren, Denise and Brad Henson of Kilgore, Kelli and Wes Downing of Kilgore, Gary II and Misty Hassell of Kilgore; five great-grandchildren, Spencer and Shelby Henson of Kilgore, Bailey and Kaden Downing of Kilgore and Hunter Hassell of Kilgore; several nieces and nephews.

Dillard, Bobby
Services for Bobby W. Dillard, 57, of Overton will be ten a.m., Monday, February 28, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Beebe officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mr. Dillard passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005 in Tyler, Texas.
He was born March 13, 1947 in Kilgore, Texas. Mr. Dillard was a member of the Grace Baptist Church He worked for Harris Bros. from 1971 until 1998. Mr. Dillard served in the U.S. Army for two years and the U.S. Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. He had many friends in the East Texas Oil Fields. Bobby loved his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Dillard is survived by his wife Patricia Dillard of Overton; mother Myrtle Dillard of Livingston; daughter Traci Dillard of Longview; grandson Dalton Ray Cobb of Liberty City; two brothers Larry Dillard of Kilgore and Ricky Dillard of Kilgore; sister Pam Garr of Kilgore; cousin Bobby Puett, Jr. of Livingston; six step children as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father H.A. Bob Dillard and his daughter Mylinda Dillard.

Branson, Sid
Services for Sid Branson, 65, of Kilgore, former resident of Garland and Rowlett, will be at one p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Besser officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery in Longview. Mr. Branson passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005 in Kilgore.
Mr. Branson was born September 26, 1939 in Henderson, Texas. He went to work for Xerox in 1962 and retired as the Dallas Area Technical Trainer in 1994 after 32 years of service. Mr. Branson served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working with computers and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
Mr. Branson is survived by his wife Carla Branson of Kilgore; two daughters and sons-in-law Sheri and Steve Barron of Rowlett and Kelly and Stewart Porter of Grand Prairie; five grandchildren Kyle Barron of Rowlett, Merrick Barron of Rowlett, Channing Barron of Rowlett, Miranda Porter of Grand Prairie and Nicholas Porter of Grand Prairie; the mother of his children Beverly Branson of Aledo as well as many loving friends.

Knighton, Michael
Michael Wayne “Mike K.” Knighton
Graveside services for Michael Knighton, 19, of Overton will be held at ten a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Pirtle Cemetery with Reverend Johnny Wright officiating. Mr. Knighton died Monday, March 2, 2005 in Marshall.
Mr. Knighton was born in Kilgore on September 22, 1985. He loved drawing and graduated Leverette’s Chapel. He was employed by Mercer Well Service in Kilgore.
He is survived by his loving parents Mike and Maryellen Knighton of Overton; two sisters Ashley and Amber Knighton of Overton; grandparents Wayne and Rebecca Knighton of Overton, Bonnie Owens of Brooksville, Florida; great grandmother Lillian Thompson of Overton numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from six to seven Friday evening.
Hill, Ruth McBride
Services for Ruth McBride Hill, 73, of New Boston, formerly of Kilgore will be two p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Donald Beebe officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Hill died Sunday, March 6, 2005 in New Boston, Texas as the results of an automobile accident.
She was born March 15, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Andrew and Eddice McBride. Her family moved to East Texas when she was young. Mrs. Hill attended public schools in Laird Hill. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Mrs. McBride moved to New Boston in 1994.
She is survived by two sons Danny Morgan of New Boston, Stephen Morgan of Nashville, Tennessee; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Eddie Parsley of New Boston, Carol and Mike Denson of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Arlene and Jeff Arnam of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; three brothers, and sisters-in-law, Charles and Iris McBride of Kilgore, Edward McBride of Longview, Lonnie and Sue McBride of Longview; a sister, June Clark of Leveretts Chapel; six grandchildren, Cynthia Morgan of Isabel, Oklahoma, Mike Leonard of New Boston, Matthew Morgan of New Boston, Carrie Barnett of Mount Pleasant, Karley Van Arnam of Wynewood, Oklahoma, Kelsey Arnam of Wynewood, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Her husband and her parents preceded her in death.
