Joanis Robertson
DIMMITT Graveside services services for Joanis Robertson, 70, were at 11 a.m. today in West Lawn cemetery west of Dimmitt.
Arrangements were by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Rhodes officiating.
Mrs. Robertson died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in Canterbury Villa Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Chillicothe, the daughter of the late Vernon and Hattie Daniels. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. On Dec. 24, 1949, she married
Ray Robertson in Clovis, N.M.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Guylene Robertson of Conroe and Jeff and Karen Robertson of Canyon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and J.D. Huffman of Oxford, Kan., Sandra and Rocky Blair of Shallowater and Nancy and Jack Benham of Muleshoe; a brother, Robert Daniels of Lockney; two sisters, Joyce Daniels of Bellingham, Wash., and Virginia Vincent of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Clara Robertson of Plainview.
The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 1201 Western Circle, Dimmitt, TX 79027, or to the American Cancer Society, Amarillo District Memorial Chair, 3915 Bell Street, Amarillo, TX 79109-4210.

Judge H. M. LaFont
Funeral services for Judge Harold M. LaFont, 96, who practiced law in Plainview for more than 70 years, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview cemetery by Bartley Funeral Home.
Judge LaFont died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in Covenant Hospital Plainview.
He was born July 1, 1907, in Conran, Mo. graduated from the University of Missouri and received his law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
In 1930, LaFont set up his law practice in Plainview. He represented this area as state representative in the Texas Legislature for four years and later was district judge for two terms. While serving with the Legislature, he authored many bills for the preservation of underground water, High Plains Experiment Station at Halfway and also served on a special legislative council to study the tax structure, state and local highway construction, uniform commercial code, and the Gilmer-Aiken school finance law.
He had the longest continuous law practice in Texas and was honored in the Texas Bar Journal.
While serving as district attorney, he tried the famous Hunt murder case three times. The case stayed in the national press for several years.
He was a member of the State Legislature from 1949 to 1953, served as District Judge 64th Judicial District from 1957 to 1964.
He was a member of Committee on Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure from 1960 to 1961.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he taught a Sunday school class for 50 years, a member of Kiwanis Club for more than 60 years, a 32nd Degree Mason and was an attorney for Central Plains Hospital and Plainview cemetery Association.
He married
Jane Powell on Nov. 11, 1933, in Plainview. She died Oct. 2, 1998.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ellie LaFont of Plainview; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennie Gail and Bill Huie of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren, Matthew LaFont of Plainview, Chris LaFont of Fort Worth, Nicole Smock of Princeton, Ill., Emily Maynard of Lubbock, William Huie of Austin, Chris Chapman of Dallas, and Claire Huie of Austin; and five great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Clara Nusebaum and Mary Stahler, and a brother, Fayette LaFont, are deceased.
Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive visitors from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Josie Reyes
HALE CENTER - Graveside services for Maria Josefina Reyes, 47, were at 10 a.m. today in Hale Center cemetery with the Rev. Reymundo Manriquez officiating.

Ms. Reyes died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at her residence after an illness.
She was born March 19, 1956, in Hereford. She moved to Hale Center from Harlingen in 2000.
Survivors include a son, Carlos Cortez Jr., of Woodrow; two daughters, Mary Jane Cruz and Mary Ann Cortez, both of Harlingen; her mother, Maria Reyes of Hale Center; six brothers, Luis Reyes and Martin Reyes, both of Hale Center, Leon Reyes of Lubbock, Robert Reyes of El Paso, Johnny Reyes of Abilene, and Raul Reyes of El Paso; two sisters, Yolanda Salazar of Harlingen and Nicole Francisca Lara of Olton; and eight grandchildren.

Jewell R. Witt
DECATUR - Graveside services for Jewell Ray Witt, 95, were at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Oaklawn cemetery with Dr. Thomas O. Brumett officiating.

Ms. Witt died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in Decatur.
She was born July 2, 1908, in Decatur. She graduated from Baylor University and studied in Guadalajara, Mexico. She received her masterīs degree from Texas Tech University. She moved to Plainview where she taught high school Spanish and later taught at the University in Mexico City.
She married
Rufus Cecil Witt on Aug. 21, 1931, in Decatur. He died March 10, 1995.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Lee and Tommie Fox of Decatur; a sister, Margaret Fox of Decatur; five nieces, Shirley Fox Watson, Judy Fox Suarez and Peggy Fox Lewis, all of Decatur, Elizana Rasco McFarland of Blanco and Neva Fox Rudy of Duncanville; and two nephews, Marcus Rasco of Irving and Albert Fox of Owensboro.

Revis Dean Wood
Funeral services for Revis Dean Wood, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Martin, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, and the Rev. Joe P. Weldon of Plainview officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.
Mr. Wood died at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in Care Inn of Plainview.
He was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Runnels County. He attended school in Drasco and moved to Plainview in 1927 and attended school in the Prairieview Community. He served with the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps during World War II.
He farmed in the Plainview area most of his life except for 6 1/2 years when he worked for Allied Van Lines in Amarillo.
He was a custom farmer for Jerry and Mike Harder and Ray Sanders for more than 20 years.
He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
On Feb. 16, 1968, he married
Addie Elizabeth Webb in Floydada.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Perry M. Wood of Germantown, Md.; two stepsons, Lanny J. Webb of Plainview and Marke D. Webb of Austin; a sister, Lucille Wood of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Dustin and Tiffany Wood; a great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
A sister, Novie Woods, is deceased.
