Mary Oneata Hicks
Funeral services for Mary Oneata Hicks, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, Texas, with Norman Jones, pastor of Open Door Evangelism in Plainview, officiating, assisted by grandson Shawn Jones.
Burial will be in Pyles cemetery in Direct by Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview.
Mrs. Hicks died Friday, June 4, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 23, 1917, in Lamar County. She married
Charlie Luther Hicks on June 27, 1936, in Paris. He died Aug. 15, 1984.
She was a certified nurse´s assistant and worked at the Pleasant Grove Nursing Home and Cherry St. Manor Nursing Home in Paris from 1974-79. She lived in Denver City from 1979-84 and from 1984-95 worked at Senior Companion in Levelland and Denver City. She also worked in the cafeteria for Levelland ISD fom 1964-71.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary “Charlene” and Norman Jones of Plainview, Martha Ann and Dan Sellers of Denver City and Carolyn “Sue” and Rex Carr of Levelland; four sons and two daughters-in-law, O´Neal and Margie Hicks of Seminole, Robert Hicks of Denver City, Wayne and Ann Hicks of Pittsburg and Billy Joe Hicks of Greenville; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Mildred Lorene Fullbright, died April 25, 2000, and a son, Jimmy Ray Hicks, died Sept. 7, 2000.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today at Bartley Funeral Home and from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris. They request all flowers be sent to Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris.

Pearl Mildred Hughes
Pearl Mildred Hughes, 84, of Plainview, Texas, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004.
Services will be held Monday June 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating.
Pearl was born in Goodnight, Texas, Aug. 26, 1919, to Alfred and Lossie Scarborough. They moved to Petersburg where she attended school and then to Lubbock where she graduated. She attended Texas Tech where she received her teaching degree in home economics.
She taught in Knox City where she met and married
Lynwood Hughes on Nov. 16, 1943. She also worked in the Albuquerque, N.M., Air Traffic Controller Unit during the war. Pearl taught ninth grade English at Plainview High School for 25 years.
Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Johnny and Connie Hughes of Canyon, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Lana & Dan Young of Ingleside, Texas; her grandchildren, Jason Hughes and wife Anna of Dallas, Brian Hughes of Lubbock, Nathan Young of Austin, Tarah Young of Ingleside and Dan Young Burkett and wife Julie; and great-granddaughter Daley of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Her husband, Lynwood Hughes, precedes her in death.
She was a gracious, loving, Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always put her family first. She loved to cook, sew and read. We will miss her loving spirit.
Memorials may be made to the College Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, The American Cancer Society or to Multiple Sclerosis Research.
Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.

Ethel Amie Craig Phillips
Graveside services for Ethel Amie Craig Phillips, 99, will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Plainview cemetery with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Second Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Mrs. Phillips died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in Lubbock.
She was born Nov. 3, 1904, in Erath County. She was a longtime Plainview resident, moving to Lubbock in 1996. She was an avid gardener and seamstress and a longtime member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Evelyn Coleman of Wichita Falls and Guenith Beedy and Maxine Looney, both of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Her parents, Charlie and Lossie Lusby; brothers Lawrence, Norman and Norval Lusby; sisters, Mamie Lusby, Normy Morris and VaRue Powers; her husbands, Merlin Craig and Everett Phillips; sons, Eldridge Craig and Jerry Craig; a daughter, Jeannell Folley; a granddaughter and one great-granddaughter are deceased.
The family invites friends to gather at the home of Maxine Looney in Lubbock following the memorial service.

Shane Vaughn
LUBBOCK -- Funeral services for Shane Vaughn, 20, of Lubbock, Texas, will be at 10 am, Monday June 7, 2004, at Resthaven´s Abbey Chapel with Randy Noel officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
He was born March 5, 1984, in Lubbock, Texas. He died Friday June 4, 2004, in Lubbock. He graduated from Cooper High School in 2003. He was a member of Church on the Rock. He was a former Boy Scout.
Shane enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He had a great love and value for his family.
Survivors includes his mother, Jana Smith and father, Tony Vaughn, both of Lubbock; brothers Nathan Vaughn of Lubbock and Carson Beatley of the home; sister Kaitlyn Beatley, also of the home; step-father James Beatley of Lubbock; grandparents, Dewey Smith of Wolfforth, Henriette and Alvin Eldred of Plainview, Sonny Ketchersid of California, and Dorothy and Lewis Ryons of Norman, Okla.; great-grandparents, Henry and Thelma Moore of Plainview; great-great grandmother, Mrs. E. V. George of Brownfield, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family suggests memorials to The National Kidney Foundation.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the funeral home.

Harold C. Baxter
FORT WORTH -- Graveside services for Harold C. Baxter, 90, who has several relatives in the Plainview area, were at 2 p.m. today in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Burial arrangements were by Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home, 6001 Rufe Snow Dr., Watauga.
Mr. Baxter died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in Fort Worth.
He was born in Pilot Point where he attended schools. He served with the Army Air Force from 1943-46 and was retired from General Dynamics after 31 years.
He enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include a stepson, Andrew Jack Scroggins of Allen; a sister, Irene Baxter of Ardmore, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
His parents, Carl C. and Alta Pruitt Baxter; three brothers, Carl, Clarence and James Baxter; his stepdaughter, Joyce Johnson; and his wife, Roberta K. Baxter, whom he married
in 1947, are deceased.

Kelton Jack Fitz
LUBBOCK -- Funeral services for Kelton Jack Fitz, infant son of Kerry and Teresa Fitz, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in W.W. Rix Chapel.
Burial was in Idalou cemetery by W.W. Rix Funeral Home.
The infant died Monday, May 31, 2004, in Covenant Medical Center.
He was born May 27, 2004, in Lubbock.
Survivors include his parents; his siblings, Whitney and Tucker Leeson; maternal grandmother Evodia Collis of Plainview; paternal grandparents, Vickie Fitz and Delton Fitz; great-grandparents, Gladys Fitz, Eva Dennison, Buddy Moore and wife, Nadine; an uncle, Lonnie Fitz; and aunts, Sherri Fitz, Linda Roberson, LaVeta and Gary Veal, and Vaneta and Mike Smith.
His grandfather, Jack Collis, is deceased.
