Eddis Lester Carpenter
Funeral services for Eddis Lester Carpenter, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Malcolm, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mr. Carpenter died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Covenant Hospital Lubbock.
He was born Nov. 27, 2004. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Jack Morris Ford until his retirement. He was a deacon at Colonial Baptist Church.
Eddis was a loving and generous man to all who knew him. His quick wit and ability to find humor and joy in any situation was a strength that will be forever remembered by family and friends. He had a deep love and devotion for his wife of 58 years and his family. His love for the Lord was continually reflected in the unending time and service that he so lovingly gave to his church.
He was a man of great character, a pillar of strength, and a lighthouse throughout his life. He leaves a powerful Godly legacy to those who were fortunate enough to call him friend, father, or grandfather.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Carpenter and his wife, Carolanne, of Arboles, Colo., and Mark Carpenter and wife, Cheryl, of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Rev. Kenneth Johnson
Memorial services for the Rev. Kenneth Johnson, 70, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating.
Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home.
Rev. Johnson died at 7:49 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Baptist St. Anthony´s Hospital in Amarillo.
He was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Fort Worth, the son of Fred and Antha Johnson. He attended Diamond Hills High School in Fort Worth.
He married
Joyce Ann Scroggins on Dec. 4, 1954, in Fort Worth. She died in May 1999.
He was an ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and pastored churches in Spearman, Laverne, Okla., and Lawton, Okla. In 1979, the Johnsons moved to Plainview where he pastored Evangel Temple, later renamed Faith Family Church, for 21 years.
He was an honorary member of the RHEMA Bible Training Center Alumni Association and the Diamond Hill Eagles Ex-Student Association. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his four children, Terri Johnson Atkinson and husband, Willie, and Freddie Johnson Bothwell and husband, Bob, all of Plainview and Deborah Johnson Farley and husband, Mark, and Scott Johnson and wife, Missy, all of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Sutton and wife, Tonya, Leslie Mullins and husband, Paul, Erin Pfeil and husband, Jeremy, Farrell Farley, Kenton Atkinson, Zachary Johnson, Quenten Johnson, Blake Bothwell, Gabriel Johnson, Cristen Bothwell and Sydney Farley; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Savannah and Wynston Sutton of Amarillo; and two sisters and one brother, Norma George of Tulsa, Okla., Barbara Gregg and husband, Gene, of Plainview, and Keith Johnson and wife, Tracy, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; and a special friend, Ginger Pool.
His wife, Joyce; his parents; and a sister, Jean, are deceased.
The family will receive friends at Lemons Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Fredda Briggs Miller
TULIA -- Funeral services for Fredda Briggs Miller, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Knornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Miller died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Floydada.
She was born June 4, 1915, in Lampasas. Her family settled north of Tulia in the Childress community in 1926. She graduated from Happy High School in 1932 as valedictorian and later graduated from Amarillo Beauty College.
She worked for Sears until retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 15 years and enjoyed china and oil painting and sewing.
On Jan. 25, 1939, she married
Fred Miller in Sayre, Okla., and they lived in Amarillo until 1952 when they moved to Lubbock. They moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1959 and later returned to Tulia to help care for her mother and three brothers.
Mr. Miller died Nov. 3, 2003.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nelda and Dwight Whitwell of Happy; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her mother, Vera Briggs, and three brothers, R.L., Phillip and Jimmie Briggs, are deceased.

Dr. W. Wayne Alford
UNION, Tenn. - Funeral services have been held for Dr. W. Wayne Alford, academic vice president and dean of the college at Wayland Baptist University from 1967-73.
Dr. Alford died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004.

Sue Smithee

Donald M. Billings
Funeral services for Donald M. Billings, 83, of Atkins, Ark., former Plainview resident and air traffic controller here, were held Dec. 4 in Atkins.
Burial was in Atkins cemetery by Lemley´s Funeral Home.
Mr. Billings died Nov. 26, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Arkansas City, Kan., where he grew up and attended schools. He attended junior college before enlisting in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After his discharge, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration and worked as an air traffic controller in Van Ives, Calif., San Francisco, Calif., and Albuquerque, N.M., before moving to Plainview. He then went to Wake Island and retired in Pine Bluff, Ark.
After retiring, he became a pressman in a print shop in Dardanelle, Ark.
He was a member of the Lions Club, VFW, the 44th Bomb Group Association and Atkins Methodist Church.
He married
Betty Jean Ward on Dec. 31, 1945, in Sudan, Kan. She died in June 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Cornelius of Plainview and Mary E. White of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Sheldon F. Tomson of Arlington and James M. Billings of Atkins; one brother, Thomas M. Billings of Sarasota, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
