Mattie Grantham
DALHART - Funeral services for Mattie “Blackie” Grantham, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lincoln Street Baptist Church with Rusty Hancock, pastor, and Bob McAlister, pastor of First Baptist Church of Channing, officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home.
Mrs. Grantham died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.
She was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Kress to William H. and Geneva Hamilton Bridgeman. She married
Jesse L. Grantham July 15, 1939, in Clovis, N.M. They moved to Dalhart in February 1968.
She had worked at Coon Memorial Nursing Home for more than 17 years and had devoted much of her life providing care for others. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Lincoln Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, LaVada Jo and Dennis McGavock of Hico; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerald Deen and Sheryl Grantham and Jesse Dwaine and Becky Grantham of Amarillo, Sidney Clinton and Kim Grantham of Hurst, and Myron Dale and Shirlyne Grantham of Dalhart; two sisters, Sue Glenn of Kress and Elizabeth Crader of Pueblo, Colo.; a brother, Simon Bridgeman of Riverside, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Her husband; a granddaughter, Jeri Dale; her parents; three sisters and two brothers are deceased.
The family suggests memorials to Cal Farley´s Boys Ranch.

Joseph Carl King II
Graveside services for Joseph Carl King II, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Plainview cemetery with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial arrangements are by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home.
Mr. King died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in August Health Care in Lubbock after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Shirley. He served with the U.S. Air Force and worked as a switchman for Southwestern Bell for 32 years. He was a Baptist.
On July 3, 1969, he married
Shirley Ann Raper in Plainview.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Christine King of Stephenville and Erik King of Plainview; a daughter and son-in-law, Robbie and Jerry Hembree of Plainview; his parents, Carl and Lois Smith King of Plainview; a brother, Gene King of Georgetown; a sister, Kay Morse of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Ryan Hembree and Keisha Hembree, both of Plainview, Ryan Moody, Billy Roy King and Rheanna King, all of Stephenville; and one great-grandson, Tyler Hembree of Plainview.
The family will be at the Hembree home, 4610 W. Second, and suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

Shirley Schur
Funeral services for Shirley Schur, 67, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Gerald Boerger, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.
Mrs. Schur died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at 10 a.m. at her residence.
She was born July 11, 1935, in Vernon where she grew up and graduated from high school. The former Shirley Blair married
Arthur Schur on Aug. 10, 1956, in Vernon. They moved to the Plainview area in 1960 then to Alvin where they lived for several years before returning to Plainview in 1996.
Mrs. Schur was a past member of TOPS and an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Susan Chesik of West Paterson, N.J., and Karla Williams of Plainview; one step-daughter, Charlotte Hawley of Vernon; three sisters, Mary Martin of Hobbs, N.M., Rosey Ellena of Plainview and Bell Jobe of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Rocky and Jodie Chesik and Renae and Jeff Hawley.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hospice Hands of West Texas in Lockney.

Louise Vaughan
SILVERTON - Funeral services for Louise Vaughan, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Willis Blair of Sudan officiating.
Burial will be in Silverton cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors of Silverton.
Mrs. Vaughan died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002.
She was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Mansfield to Daniel Edwin and Rosa Caroline (Bishop) Brown. She moved to Briscoe County in 1925 and graduated from Silverton High School in 1929. She married
Ewing Vaughan on Dec. 3, 1932, in Silverton.
She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 25 years. She taught art for more than 30 years in Silverton, both for the school system and in her art studio at her home.
She was a resident of LakeRidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Care in Lubbock.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Clifford Youngquist of Lubbock; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Annette Vaughan of Arlington; a sister, Wilda Lightsey of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Silverton cemetery or to the Silverton Fire Department and Silverton EMT Services.

Estelle Wheeler
HALE CENTER - Graveside services for Estelle Wheeler, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hale Center cemetery with the Rev. Lanny Wheeler officiating.
Burial arrangements are by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wheeler died Wednesday in Prairie House Living Center in Plainview.
She was born April 13, 1915, in Wilmouth. She moved to Hale Center in 1955 and was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
On Nov. 6, 1935, she married
J.O. Wheeler in Abilene. He died March 14, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Lanny Wheeler of Gunnison, Colo., and Larry Wheeler of Lubbock; two daughters, Ann Wheeler of Plainview and Vicky McKinney of Hale Center; two brothers, Jim Ballew of Tulsa, Okla,. and Delbert Ballew of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Lillian Tekelle of Alamogordo, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, June Wheeler, is deceased.
The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.

Henry `Buddy´ Gaither
FLOYDADA - Funeral services for Henry L. “Buddy” Gaither, 60, were at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony D. Sisemore, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Floyd County Memorial Park by Moore-Rose-White-Funeral Home of Floydada.
Mr. Gaither died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, in Floydada.
He was born Nov. 22, 1941, in Breckenridge, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William T. Gaither Jr. He graduated from Floydada High School and served with the U.S. Army. He received training in the heating and air conditioning field and was a licensed plumber. He was co-owner of Hammons Sheet Metal until retiring in June of 2000.
In May of 1966, he married
Anita Williams in Floydada. She died in 1990.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Dahl Dunavant of Rudy, Ark., and Tanya and Russell Smith of Hugo, Okla.; a brother, William T. Gaither of Springhill, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
