Eugene Joseph “Gene” Gilson, 72, of Silsbee, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at his residence.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.
A lifelong resident of Silsbee, he was retired from Temple Inland with 35 years service as a Customer Service Representative and he served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Gilson of Silsbee; son, Grant Gilson of Orangefield; and three grandchildren.
Joseph Cates
Joseph Alexander Cates, 84, of Buna, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 7 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at the Cates’ Family Private Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Syble Goins Cates of Buna; daughters, Syble Jo Midkiff and Bonnie Harrison, both of Buna; sons, Arnold Cates and Royce Cates, both of Buna; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Julia Jackson
Julia DeSha Jackson, 94, of Lumberton, died Saturday, April 3, 2004.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, April 7 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
Survivors include her sons, Lester Robert Jackson Jr. of Frederick, MD, William Donald Jackson of Brownwood, and Thomas Ronald Jackson of Deer Park; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bartella McKinney
Bartella “Rena” McKinney, 87, of Beaumont, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 23 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Resthaven Cemetery also in Silsbee.
She was a native and longtime resident of Silsbee.
Survivors include her son, Joseph McKinney of Beaumont; brother, J.C. Busby of Silsbee; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
Isia Bounds
Isia Pauline Bounds, 94, of Silsbee, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at Silsbee Convalescent Center.
A graveside service was held Monday, March 22 at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.
Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Bounds Baker of Silsbee; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Joshua Hicks
Joshua Earl “Josh” Hicks, 24, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 20 at the First United Pentecostal Church in Silsbee under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home also in Silsbee with burial at Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred.
He had lived most of his life in Fred and was a framing contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Hicks of Silsbee; parents, Judy and Paul Hicks of Fred; and brother, Jason Hicks of Fred.
Herbert Wolcott
Herbert Rodney “Shorty” Wolcott, 81, of Kountze, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Friday, March 19 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Holland Cemetery in Kountze.
A lifelong resident of Kountze, he was a retired carpenter and he served in the United States Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart for his service.
Survivors include his daughters, June Scott of Kountze and Robbie Kojak of Beaumont; brother, Raymond Wolcott of Kountze; sister, Nola Zimmerman of Kountze; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
George Methvin
George Emil Methvin, 85, of Silsbee, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at the First Baptist Church in Silsbee with burial at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery also in Silsbee under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home.
A native of Port Arthur and a longtime resident of Silsbee, he was a retired lab technician with Texaco in Port Arthur. He was also a United States Army Air Corp vetern, having flew 17 missions over Germany and two missions over France. His assignments included tail gunner, navigator and co-pilot.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Free Methvin of Silsbee; son, George Emil “Gem” Methvin II of Asheville, NC; daughters, Judy K. Lanclos of Evans, GA and Billie Sue Evans of Pampa; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Clyde Phillips
Clyde Phillips, 84, of Spurger, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004 at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.
A native and lifelong resident of Spurger, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Tyler County Precinct 4.
Survivors include sons, Charlie Joe Phillips of Nacogdoches and Johnny Harlan Phillips of Spurger; daughter, Charlotte Green of Magnolia Springs; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
