Preston Sunday
Preston Scott Sunday, 32, of Kountze, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at home.
A graveside service was held Monday, June 28 at Holland Cemetery in Kountze under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary also in Kountze.
A native and longtime resident of Kountze, he was an ironworker.
Survivors include his son, Cody Sunday of Kountze; mother, Beverly Jones of Kountze; stepfather, Mike Jones of Saratoga; stepmother, Darlene Sunday of Village Mills; sisters, Tonya Breaux and Suzette Talley, both of Kountze and Theresa Bryant of Ancorage, AK; brothers, Wesley Sunday, Michael Jones and Richard Sunday, all of Kountze and Sam Reynolds of Garden City, KS; and grandparents, Joyce Williams of Kountze and Susie Lee Sunday of Crosby.
Elizabeth Hobbs
Elizabeth Dora Hobbs, 85, of Port Arthur, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 in Port Arthur.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Vivian, LA under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at the church.
A native of Vivian, she was owner of Red’s Bar-B-Q in Orange.
Survivors include daughters, Pat Reitz of Groves and Nancy Zerko of McLewis; sons, Phillip Hobbs of St. Louis, MO and David Hobbs of Shreveport, LA; brother, Icam McCullough of Deweyville; sister, Hattie Goodwin of Ft. Worth; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Donn Jacobs
Donn Jacobs ended his year battle with cancer on June 22, 2004. Donn was a native of Seattle, Washington. he was married 23 years to Terri Neely Jacobs, a native of Lumberton, Texas. Donn and Terri have two sons, David 19, a sophomore at Jacksonville State University and Blake 17, a rising senior in high school. They resided in Carroll County, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Jacobs and a brother, Paul Jacobs.
Donn is also survived by his father, Paul Jacobs and sister, Marilyn Barstow, both of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by Terri’s family, natives of Lumberton. Marie Neely and late husband Emery claimed Donn as a son. Terri’s sisters, Sandra Lewis, Lynda O’Dell, Chris Mazon and their families claimed Donn as a brother and fun uncle.
Donn worked as a pilot for Delta Airlines for 25 years and retired June 1, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted June 27, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Bremen and interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen, Georgia.
His pallbearers were longtime friends and also Delta Pilots dressed in uniform. His honorary pallbearers were Bremen High School football team and coaches.
His pain has now ended as our intense pain and sorrow over his passing has begun. We will miss this memorable loving person until we meet him once again.
George Brister
George “Buddy” Edward Brister, 72, of Evadale, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at St. Luke Episcopal Hospital in Houston.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 6 at Eastgate United Pentecostal Church in Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memorial Park also in Vidor.
A former longtime resident of Vidor, he had lived in Evadale 15 years and was a retired plant supervisor at Commercial Metals in Beaumont. He was also a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Wilda Brister of Evadale; son, David Ludolph of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Debra Johnson of Silsbee; brothers, Bobby Brister and Rodger Brister, both of Vidor; and three grandchildren.
Martha Byron
Martha Byron, 92, of Lumberton, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 7 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Beaumont under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park also in Beaumont.
Survivors include her sons, Patrick Byron of Hemphill, John R. Byron of Lumberton, and Paul J. Byron of Sterling, KY; daughters, Louise Isherwood of Hilo, HI and Mary Eubank of Apopka, FL; brothers and sisters, Woorhies Trahan of Maurice, LA, Electa Chatlin of Alexandria, LA, Annabelle Smith of Hemphill, and Clyde Trahan of LaMarque; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Eula Maddox
Eula Belle Maddox, 76, of Lumberton, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Lumberton Rehabilitation.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 6 at Infant Jesus Catholic Church with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary also in Beaumont.
A lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was a retired bookkeeper for Dr. Peter Erhard.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Olson of Lumberton; brothers, Lee Bruce of Beaumont and Tony Bruce; and two grandchildren.
John Holcomb
John Harold Holcomb, 73, of Town Bluff, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Saturday, July 10 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Knupple Cemetery also in Silsbee.
He was a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth Holcomb of Town Bluff and Michael Holcomb of Lumberton; daughter, Ima Jean Holcomb of St. Helena, CA; brothers, S.M. Holcomb of Lumberton, Gene Holcomb of Town Bluff, James Holcomb of Livingston and Jerry Holcomb of Houston; sister, Dorothy Clevenger of Livingston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
