George French
George Hart French, 77, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital in Dallas.
A longtime resident of the area, he worked at the Lumberton Wal-Mart as a matintenance person and served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hornett during World War II.
Survivors include daughter, Susan Gore of Avenal, Calif.; son, Chuck French of Palmdale, Calif.; brothers, David P. French of Colorado and Robert French of Big Springs; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Charles Griffis
Charles William Griffis, 65, of Silsbee, was born in Buna, Texas on May 19, 1938 and passed away Wednesday morning, June 11 in his sleep. He was taken to Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee but no funeral or memorial services will be held at this time. He will surley be missed.
Charles William (Griff), was a Navy veteran, serving on USS Yorktown, he retired from Bethleham Steel after being one of their best layout men. He worked hard all his life and was a good man, never turning away someone in need.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Faye Griffis and brother, Nealy Jerome Griffis.
Survivors include his son, Rock Griffis and daughter-in-law, Tammy Griffis of Beaumont; daughter, Dyanna Ruth Morris of Heron, Montana; grandchildren, Tiffany Ann Morris of Heron, Montana, Sharlotte Faye, Noah, and Naomi Renee Griffis, all of Beaumont.
He was the oldest of nine children by Estelle and the late Nealy Griffis of Buna. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Virginia Landry of Silsbee, Howard Griffis of Buna, David Griffis of Silsbee, Retha Smith of Evadale, Averine Pennington of Simonton, Juanita Williams of Ivanhoe, and Barbara Elliott of Pineland; plus many nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be missed greatly, may he rest in peace.
Julia Herrington
Julia Herrington, 98, of Silsbee, died Friday, June 13, 2003 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Broussard's Mortuary in Kountze with burial at Daniels Cemetery also in Kountze.
A native of Deweyville, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Edward V. Herrington of Houston and Joe L. Tumlinson of Beaumont; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Larry Whitmire
Larry Whitmire, 61, of Silsbee, died Monday, June 16, 2003 at his residence.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery also in Silsbee.
A lifelong resident of Silsbee, he worked for Silsbee Propane Fuels as a truck driver. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include Alice Whitmire of Silsbee; daughters, Connie Flowers and Julie Calloway, both of Silsbee; son, Larry Allen Whitmire of Silsbee; sisters, Ruth Crain of Silsbee and Jeanette Dillard of Evadale; and 11 grandchildren.
Jodie Dixon
Jodie Dixon, 81, of Silsbee, died Monday, June 9, 2003.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Primus Chapel C.M.E in Silsbee with burial at Kirby Cemetery under the direction of Coleman Funeral Home in Silsbee.
A native of Nacogdoches, he had lived in Silsbee since 1948 and was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Dixon of Silsbee; sons, Joe Franklin Dixon and William Dixon, both of Houston, Tommy White of Lufkin, and Charles Dixon, Alton Dixon, and Rickey Dixon, all of Silsbee; daughters, Deloise Dixon, Baby Jo Dixon and Anita Carey, all of Silsbee and Mary Jo Tyler of Houston; sisters, Ola Dee, Mary Dee, and Altheria Dixon, all of Houston; brother, Joseph Dixon of Silsbee; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Laura Ranae "Soup Sandwich" Roby, 4, of Silsbee, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Broussard's Mortuary in Kountze with burial at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery in Silsbee.
Survivors include her mother, Brandi Cahanin of Kountze; father, Casey Roby of Silsbee; brother, Dustin Cahanin of Silsbee; sister, Alexis Roby of Silsbee; grandparents, Laura and Ray Cahanin and Kenny and Jackie Roby, all of Silsbee; and great-grandparents, Shirley and Jack Hinson of Silsbee and Harold and Billie Roby of Spurger.
Henry Simmons Jr.
Henry "Tractor" Simmons Jr., 58, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Pine Arbor Nursing Home in Silsbee.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 17 at St. Beulah Baptist Church in Silsbee with burial at Kirby Cemetery also in Silsbee. Services were under the direction of Coleman's Tyler County Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughter, Alisa Mayo; sons, Bruce Simmons of Silsbee, Kenneth Simmons of Beaumont and Durwin McKinney of Fort Campbell, Ky.; sisters, Elizabeth Moffett of Waco, Sherylin Cunnigan of Tyler, and Alberta Shaw, Brenda Rhone and Audrey Watts, all of Silsbee; brothers, Charles Simmons of Longview and Terry Simmons and Eric Simmons, both of Beaumont; and seven grandchildren.
