Shirley Johnson
Shirley Ann Johnson, 66, of Silsbee, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Silsbee Middle School Gymnasium under the direction of Robinson Community Funeral Home in Jasper with burial at Kirby Cemetery in Silsbee.
A native and lifelong resident of Silsbee, she was a teacher with the Silsbee Independent School District with 44 years service.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Glover H. Johnson of Silsbee; daughter, Yolanda “Nan” Avery of Beaumont; sister, Joyce E. Smith of Austin; brothers, Equinn E. Jackson of Silsbee and Harold R. Benton of Corpus Christi; and two grandchildren.
William Tanner
William “Bill” Tanner, 85, of Loeb, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 13 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Loeb-Leatherwood Cemetery in Loeb.
A native and lifelong resident of Loeb, he was a retired truck driver with Union City and a United States Army World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Berniece Holland Tanner of Loeb; daughters, Billie Sue Russell of Evadale and Nettie Ruth Ross of Lufkin; sons, Clifford Castilaw of Warren, Jerry Castilaw of Silsbee, Charles Ray Castilaw of Lufkin and Robert Earl Castilaw of Onalaska; sister, Lillian Karr of Lumberton; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Vernon Hatch
Vernon Hatch, 87, of Silsbee, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 16 at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery also in Buna.
A native of Merryville, LA, he had lived in Silsbee 24 years and was a retired tank inspector for Sun Oil.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Hatch of Silsbee; sons, Dr. Kenneth “Ken” Hatch of Buna and Randy Hatch of Rusk; sisters, Jo Carpenter of Buna, Elsie Hanley of Nederland and Bettie Ansley of Willis; and two grandchildren.
Jerry Galloway Sr.
Jerry Broughton Galloway Sr., 67, of Silsbee, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery also in Silsbee.
He had lived in Silsbee 43 years and was retired from Mobil Oil Co. with 35 years as a Product Supply Supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Galloway of Silsbee; sons, Jerry Galloway Jr. of La Place, LA and Drew Galloway of Silsbee; daughters, Lisa Grissom and Stacey Taylor, both of Silsbee; and 13 grandchildren.
Ashton Gilder
Ashton Jamal Gilder, infant son of Rev. Mark and Stephanie Gilder of Silsbee, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robinson Community Funeral Home in Jasper.
Albert McKinney
Albert Nathaniel McKinney, 71, of Jasper, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.
A native and former longtime resident of Silsbee, he was a United States Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Juanita McKinney; son, James McKinney of Spurger; daughters, jennifer Fallwell of Lumberton and Sonia Sork of Kingwood; brothers, Martin McKinney and Pete McKinney, both of Silsbee and Phillip McKinney of Houston; sisters, Martha Boothe of Plano, Edith Strickland of Silsbee and Myra Nell Wedgeworth of Jasper; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Greyce Halbert
Greyce Madison Renee’ Halbert, infant daughter of David Halbert and Megean Ryder, both of Evadale, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Cunningham Cemetery also in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, Feb. 12 at the funeral home.
Survivors other than her parents include grandparents, Chris and Cindy Jones of Evadale, Phyllis and Johnny Johnson of Buna, Bobbie “Red” and Cathy Halbert of Center and Donnie and Tina Ryder.
