A.W. "Dub' Crisp Jr.
Graveside services for A.W. "Dub" Crisp Jr., 70, of North Richland Hills are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Van Zandt County with the Rev. Don Teague officiating.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Davis Memorial United Methodist Church in North Richland Hills with the Rev. Grady Brittain officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Crisp was born in 1929 in Van Zandt County to Alvin and Eva Mae Paschall Crisp.
He graduated from Adamson High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Fort Worth in 1963 and established Crisp Equipment Company. He retired in 1985. He was interested in horses and was involved in many equestrian activities, including the Tarrant County Sheriff's Posse. He was an active member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church and was a Mason.
Mr. Crisp was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pat Crisp; and sisters, Eva Lorene Teague and Mettawee Decker.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Avis Crisp of North Richland Hills; son, David Crisp of Dallas; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Larry Wadsworth of Arlington and Cheryl and Dean Clemens of Franklin, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Hendricks of Marble Falls and Jackie Swindle of Kemp; grandchildren, Kristen Clemens and Andrew Clemens of Franklin, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund at Davis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Eileen Ireland Moon Driggers
Services for Eileen Ireland Moon Driggers, 99, of Whitehouse are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Whitehouse with the Rev. Harold Davis officiating.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home of Troup.
Mrs. Driggers died Feb. 12, 2000, in Whitehouse.
She was born Nov. 7, 1900, in Johnson County to Charles R. and Mary Ann Tipton Ireland.
Mrs. Driggers operated Sam's Place and Moon's Cafe in Athen,s as well as working for the Magic Chef in Tyler and the Corner Cafe in Whitehouse, before retirement. She was a resident of the Tyler-Whitehosue area since 1950. She was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Whitehouse and a member of the Hope Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Sam Moon and John Driggers; son, Otis Moon; stepson, Grady Driggers; and her twin brother, Elliot Ireland.
Mrs. Driggers is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and C.Y. Wood Jr. of Whitehouse; son and daughter-in-law, Reginald and Edna Moon of Whitehouse; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will Sam Brewer, Jack Morris, Gene Coon, Marshall Carlile, Roger Clay and J.L. Hays.
Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Whitehouse Hope Sunday School Class.
Ruby Mae Graham
Services for Ruby Mae Graham, 90, of Athens were held 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Athens with Kyle Henderson officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Graham died Feb. 11, 2000, in Athens.
She was born Nov. 2, 1909, in Henderson County to Alfred E. and Martha Wallace Carson.
Mrs. Graham had been a member of First Baptist Church of Athens since 1940. She taught Sunday School at Baxter Baptist Church. She worked at Royall Dry Cleaners, Helen Barron Dress Shop and Palace Drug Store.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert E. Graham, in 1975; brother, Alton Carson; and sister, Mildred Carson Bryan.
Mrs. Graham is survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Eunice Stogner of Athens and Jean and Amos Boyd of Cleveland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Guy Lancaster, Robert Hoover, Robert Penny, Robert Bush, Joe Woods and Sam Bennett.
Woodrow Wilson Howell
Services for Woodrow Wilson Howell, 87, of Malakoff are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Paschal Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Finley officiating.
Burial will follow at Malakoff Cemetery under the direction of Paschal Funeral Home of Kerens.
Mr. Howell died Feb. 13, 2000, in Athens.
He was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Eureka.
Mr. Howell was a retired engineer from TXI Construction and also retired from Cedar Hill ISD.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Inez Howell of Malakoff; sons, Gurley W. Howell of Troup and William C. Howell of Malakoff; brothers, Robert Howell of Mineral Wells, Jack Howell of Mineral Wells and L.B. Howell of Kerens; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Estes L. Lewis
Services for the Rev. Estes L. Lewis, 91, of Austin were held 1 p.m. Monday at Colonial Chapel at Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Austin.
Burial followed in Mexia under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home of Austin.
The Rev. Lewis died Feb. 11, 2000, in Austin.
He was born April 25, 1908, in Athens.
The Rev. Lewis was a graduate of Baylor University and Southwestern Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Elkhart, Ben Wheeler and Schulenberg before joining the Air Force in 1941, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served in England and Germany during World War II. As a chaplain, he founded an orphanage in Kusan, Korea, during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the military, he pastored churches in Arizona, Mississippi and Texas. He was named Texas Rural Minister of the Year in 1969 as pastor of Martindale Baptist Church. He was Chaplain of the Retired Officers Association and was a supporter of Baylor University.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Martin Lewis, in 1990.
The Rev. Lewis is survived by his sister, Edwina Burrill of Austin; sons, Guy Lewis of Banks, Ore.; and Jeff Lewis of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Estes and Ruth Lewis Scholarship Endowment at Baylor University.
James Perry Slaughter
Services for James Perry Slaughter, 95, of Star Harbor are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Malakoff with the Rev. Casey Perry officiating.
Burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Mr. Slaughter died Feb. 13, 2000, in Star Harbor.
He was born March 25, 1904, in Cameron to James Pheton and Lenora Langham Slaughter.
He moved to Star Harbor from Nederland seven years ago. He was a member of First Baptist Church Malakoff where he served as a deacon. He was a retired pipe fitter in a chemical plant.
Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Willie Clayton Slaughter.
He is survived by his daughters, Gladys Weaver and Viola Purdue, both of Star Harbor; and sister, Willie Mae Roman of Humble.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the senior Sunday School class at First Baptist Church Malakoff.
Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Elmer "Buddy' Cheek
Services for Elmer "Buddy" Cheek, 78, of Palestine are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Warren officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Cheek died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Mangham, La., the son of Harvey Osborne and Addie Mae Cheek.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Houston Union 213 in Houston. Mr. Cheek was a dean and an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Channelview. A resident of Channelview from 1947 to 1976, he moved his family to Palestine in 1976. Mr. Cheek came from a family of 14. A veteran of WW II, he had been stationed in England and Germany as a member of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Eva Julia Cheek of Palestine; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Sharon and Joseph F. Cacciotti of Channelview and Pamela Sue Austin of Houston; three sisters, twin sister Thelma LaCase of Rayville, Odel Allen of Clark, La.. Evelyn McDaniel of Oak Grove, La.; two half-sisters, Myrtis Clack of Oak Grove, La. and Agnes Cheek of Mississippi; one brother, Herman Cheek of Pineville; numerous nieces; great nieces; and nephews.
Pallbearers will be J.N. Farmer, Al Evidente, Marcus Fowler, Carl Taylor, Robert Cacciotti and Joe Cacciotti.
The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday 6-8 p.m.
