Dorothy Reeves Talton
Dorothy Reeves Talton was called to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was the oldest daughter born to Benjamin Ruben Reeves and Jo Essie Reeves on Aug. 23, 1928, in Buckholts, Texas. Both parents are deceased.
She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She has always been the caregiver in her family and to the end was more concerned for her family than herself. Dorothy was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Athens for 45 years and volunteered at the Athens Food Pantry for many years. She worked 16 years on the nursing staff at Lakeland Medical Center.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 56 years, Arthur I. Talton. Her children are Ardith Daily and husband, Patrick, Dayna Abowd and husband, Joe and Tamara Talton. One brother, Kenneth Reeves of Rockdale, also survived her. Surviving sisters are Sue Dodson and Tina Crenshaw of Irving, Patsy Rives of Texas City, B.J. Fritz of Kilgore and Connie Rogan of Tampa, Fla. She had five grandchildren who will miss her and miss her bear hugs as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Joe Abowd, Robert Barnett, Pat Daily, Ralph Dodson, Hunter Dunn, Jim Ownes, Tom Taylor and Gene Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701; First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 911, Athens, TX 75751; or to Henderson County Food Pantry, 715 East Corsicana, Athens, TX 75751.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, which is located at 1910 Hwy. 31 East in Athens.
George Joe Cikanek
Services for George Joe Cikanek, 75, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Cikanek died Aug. 1, 2000, at East Texas Medical Center Athens.
He was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Ennis to the late Antone and Mary Zaludek Cikanek.
He was retired from Chance Vought Aerospace Dynamics as a welder and resided in Athens for 18 years.
He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Naoni Cikanek of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Jo and Pat Archibald of Grand Prairie; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Virginia and Bob Andrews of Rockport; grandson, Brent Archibald of Grand Prairie; granddaughter, Lori Archibald of Grand Prairie; sister, Emma Trojacek of Ennis; one nephew; and two nieces.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Cikanek, Norman Ponder, Raymond Navarro, David Del Bosque, Gene Lewis and Ryan McFalls.
Honorary pallbearers will be Royce Thomas, Doyle Harris and Jake Starr.
Family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral.

Orman Palmer Sr.
Graveside services for Orman Palmer Sr., 83, of Round Rock and formerly of Walton community, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Cemetery in Van Zandt County.
Burial will follow under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home of Canton.
Mr. Palmer died April 2, 2003, in Round Rock after a short illness.
He was born October 7, 1919, in Van Zandt County to Henry Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Hobbs Palmer. Mr. Palmer graduated from Athens High School, served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II and in Korea. He worked for Gulf Oil, Spencer Hardware and Perryman Operating Co. He lived in Athens most of his life and in the Walton community in his later years.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Eric Hensley of Lone Oak; son, Melvin Ford Palmer of Freeport; two grandaughters and husbands, Gina and Elmer Richardson Byrum of Round Rock and Myranda Palmer of Lake Jackson; grandson, Everett Ford Palmer of Freeport; and sister, Justine Douglas of Wylie.
Family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thomas E. Hastings
Services for Thomas E. Hastings, 80, of Athens will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Ridge officiating.
Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Mr. Hastings was born Jan. 8, 1923, in White Deer, to the late Berney and Ola Beard Hastings.
He died April 2, 2003, in Athens. Mr. Hastings served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and later he was an equipment installer with GTE Telephone.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Hastings of Athens; daughter, Diane Daniel of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Karen Hastings of Saint Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Sonny Daniel of Fairfield and Christine Swartz of Denver, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Rusty Lowrey, Lonnie Smith, Robert Swain, Pontene Daniel, Raymond Pitts and Jack Chamberlain.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 3404 North Northeast Loop 323, Tyler, TX.
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Patsy Ridgway
Funeral services for Patsy Ridgway, 60, of Athens are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John W. Watson, the Rev. Mary Henderson and Mr. Charles Gurley officiating.
Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Ridgway passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at East Texas Medical Center Athens.
She was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Athens to the late Travis Carson and Jimmie Mae Holly Brown. She married Butch Ridgway Dec. 21, 1962.
Mrs. Ridgway was a resident of Henderson County most of her life. She was a real estate agent for Century 21 in Athens and a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren and working in her yard. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, granny and a friend to all.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Butch Ridgway of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Derek Ridgway and Christina Hampton; daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Chris Wilder, all of Athens; grandsons, Chance Wayne of Brownsboro and Stoney Chase of Athens; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Mary Brown of Athens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Sonny Musick, Eugene Buford, Reggie Howard, Jim McFearson, Rodney Hardin and John French.
Honorary pallbearers are Vivian Tumlinson, Carolyn Tumlinson, Loise Buford, Judy Tidmore, Pat Everett, Martha Lee, Tina Beard, Carolyn Reynolds and all the employees of Century 21 in Athens.

Services for Mildred Holcomb, 88, of Commerce were held 2 p.m. today in Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank.
Burial was in Tool Cemetery in Tool.
Mrs. Holcomb died March 31, 2003, in Commerce.

Mary E. Bryant
Services for Mary E. Bryant, 86, of Trinidad are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel in Malakoff, with the Rev. Floyd Loven officiating.

Mrs. Bryant died March 27, 2002, in Athens.
She was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Kirk. She was a Baptist and was employed as a beautician.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar L. and Irene McKenzie Fuller; her husband, Henry Martin Bryant; a brother, Lawrence Fuller; and a sister, Marquerite Stewart.
Survivors include her niece and husband, Myrna and Bill Thiessen of Pasadena; nephews, Robert Stewart of Las Vegas, N.M., Carl Stewart and wife Carlene of White Oak, and Lelan Williams; and numerous other relatives.
