Ruth Elle Godwin
Services for Ruth Elle Godwin, 75, of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at County Line Baptist Church with Mark Peterson officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home Inc. of Canton.
Mrs. Godwin died Nov. 4, 2004, in Tyler.
She was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Athens to Lonnie F. and Lottie Tanner Andress.
Mrs. Godwin was married to Bruce Wallace Godwin for 56 years when he preceded her in death just six months ago. She owned and operated Godwin Income Tax and Bookkeeping Service in Athens for 37 years. "Miss Ruth" was an active member of County Line Baptist Church in the Walton community. She loved quilting and cooking and treasured the time she spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Carl Andress and Clifton Andress; and sister, Dorothy Stephens.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Cathie Godwin of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Carl West of Athens; grandson and wife, Randy and Julie West; granddaughters and husbands, Leah and Russell Rayburn and Stacy and Ross Mills; two great-grandchildren, Cody Rayburn and Ty Rayburn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilson, Jamie Jackson, Ivy Joe Godwin, Lanny Godwin, Billy Paris and Randy Osborne.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Matthew Dean Johnson
Services for Matthew Dean Johnson, 25, will be held Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Rose Heights Church with the Rev. Mervin Scott and Pastor Lynn Hildreth officiating.
Interment will follow at Deadwood Methodist Cemetery in Deadwood under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Matthew, a commercial photographer, ended his earthly adventure on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in a tragic airplane crash near Kirksville, Mo., while on a photographic assignment.
While at Longview High School, Matthew was a member of the Longview Lobo Band, a member of the SRO theater group, a member of the Computer Science Team and was a Globe Scholar. Following graduation in 1997, Matthew attended Kilgore College. While there, he served as opinion editor, executive editor and photographer for the student newspaper, The Flare. He was selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and Who's Who in Journalism at Kilgore College.
He was an outstanding journalist and photographer, winning numerous awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association and the Texas Community College Journalism Association. While attending Kilgore College, he worked part time for the Longview News Journal, where he learned many real world lessons about journalism.
He graduated from Kilgore College in May 2000, and entered Texas A&M Commerce, pursuing a degree in photography. He was a member of Alpha Chi, the National College Honor Scholarship Society. While attending Texas A&M Commerce, he pursued the art of photography with an unrelenting passion and was published three times in CMYK magazine, a national collegiate portfolio of the visual arts. One of those photos was chosen as a winner in the 2004 Soho Photo National Competition and was displayed in the Soho Photo Gallery in New York City.
He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M Commerce in December 2003, with a bachelor's degree of science in photography. Matthew then began his work in the field of commercial photography in the Dallas area.
Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carlton and Erlene Johnson of Carthage; maternal grandparents, Charles T. Dean of Athens and R.M. "Sonny" and Elizabeth "Liz" Dean McGuffey of Athens.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Terry and Melinda Dean Johnson of Longview; fianc/, Danea Males of Commerce; aunt, Rhonda Jones of Carthage; uncle, Daniel Johnson of Carthage; uncle and aunt, Mike and Linda Dean Georgetown, cousins, Mindy and Shannon Baker of Longview; David and Keri Dean of League City, Scott and Christy Dean of Dallas and Andy Dean of Katy.
Pallbearers will be David Dean, Scott Dean, Andy Dean, Steve Green, Matthew Hardin, Michael Kilpatrick and Ronn Meyer.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Sharp, Brian Cline and Jake Botter.
Family will receive friends form 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.

Cecil Mays
Funeral services for Cecil Mays, 80 of Chandler will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Highway 31 Church of Christ in Brownsboro with Bernie Bauer officiating. Cooper Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Mays passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 4, 2004, in Tyler.
Mr. Mays was born to Cornelius and Viola Mays in Kensett, Ark.
He was raised and attended schools in Missouri. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served during World War II as a gunner and glider pilot. He served in the European Theater along the Rhine River in Germany and was awarded three bronze stars. After leaving the service, he attended Falls Business College and was employed by L.B. Pierce Mercantile in St. Louis, Mo.
As a business administrator for the company, he was assigned to several locations in Tennessee, including Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga and Knoxville. He married Dannie Anderson in 1978 and after retirement they moved to Camden, Tenn., and later moved to Lake Palestine in 1988. During his retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors and spent time gardening and fishing. One of his great joys was spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.
Mr. Mays is survived by his wife, Dannie Leola Mays of Chandler; sons and daughters in law, William and Diane Stice of Cary, N.C., Jerry and Rhonda Stice of Malakoff, Dennis and Lillie Stice of Bartlett, Tenn., and Danny and Debbie Stice of Hammond, Louisiana; daughters and sons-in-law, Dannie May and Don Baker of Brownsboro and Brenda and Larry Drennan of Montalba; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Terry L. Markham
Graveside services for Terry L. Markham, 49, of Payne Springs were held Thursday morning at Payne Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Don Teague officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Markham died June 4, 2002, in Athens.
He was born Oct. 22, 1952, in Dallas.
Mr. Markham had lived in Payne Springs for 30 years. He was a painting contractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Stephannie Markham of Payne Springs; son, Joseph Markham of Payne Springs; brother, Bill Bowden of Payne Springs; sisters, Betty Earley of Euless and Lucille Thorn of Payne Springs; and other family members.
The family received friends Wednesday night at the funeral home.
Addrian Powers
Services for Addrian Powers, 76, of Granbury, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Acton Baptist Church in Acton.
Burial will follow at Acton Cemetery under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury.
Mrs. Powers died June 3, 2002.
Mrs. Powers was born June 17, 1925, in Eustace, to Joseph and Minnie Wortham Cook.
She married Tarlton Pierce Powers, February 28, 1941, in Eustace. Mrs. Powers worked with Maytag and the Merchantile National Bank. She was an avid golfer and very active in the Ladies Golf Association and Womens Club of DCBE. She was active in the American Heart Association, the Diabetes Foundation and the DCBE Volunteer Fire Dept.
Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her husband, Tarlton Powers; sister, Jane Hutchinson; brother, Eddie Cook; and a son-in-law, David Rose.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Powers Rose of Dallas, Linda Powers Rose of McKinney and Donna Powers and Morris Galloway of Granbury; grandchildren, Tanna Rose, Kevin Rose, Dayna DeProspero, Debbie Gramlich, and Capt. Daniel Rose; brothers, Dr. Percy Cook of Mansfield and Flin L. Cook of Haughton, La.; sister, Julia Hataway of Georgetown; and four great-grandchildren;

Gwen Dillard
Services for Gwen Dillard, 52, of Edgewood were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bartley Funeral Home Chapel with Homer Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow at Sand Flat Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Grand Saline.
Mrs. Dillard died Sept. 21, 2000, in Grand Saline.
She was born July 30, 1948, in Dallas.
Mrs. Dillard lived in Northeast Texas most of her life. She lived in Edgewood seven years. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and a store manager for the Texaco in Edgewood. She was a member of Van Zandt Senior Citizens Club.
She was preceded in death by her father, E.L. "Red" Netherland, in 1994.
Survivors include husband, Sam Dillard of Edgewood; mother, Bernice Netherland Magill of Edgewood; sons, Rocky Reeves of Malakoff, John Dillard of Edgewood and Joey Dillard of Texarkana, Ark.; daughters, DeAnn Washington of Edgewood and Melissa Bryant of Texarkana; brothers, Rickey Netherland of Grand Saline and Danny Netherland of Kilgore; sisters, Teresia Sprague of Fruitvale and Brenda Oliver of Fruitvale; and three grandchildren, Tommy Washington, Nick Bryant and Matthew Dillard.
