John M. Buchanan III
Services for John M. Buchanan III, 63, of Mesquite were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank with the Rev. George Yarger officiating.
Burial followed at Cedar Creek Memorial Park under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Buchanan died Nov. 14, 2004, in Tyler.
He was born Feb. 22, 1941, in Dallas County.
Leona N. Caldwell
Services for Leona N. Caldwell, 94, of Mabank are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mrs. Caldwell died Oct. 14, 2004, in Mabank.
She was born Dec. 3, 1909, in Henrietta, Okla.
Mike Lancaster
Funeral services for Mike Lancaster, 49, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Leagueville Baptist Church with Tom Bragdon officiating.
Interment will be at Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Lancaster passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Tyler.
Mr. Lancaster was born Aug. 29, 1955, in Corsicana and lived his early childhood there. He came to Henderson County with his parents in 1962 and attended schools in Athens. He graduated from Henderson County Junior College with a degree in drafting in 1975. After graduating from college, he became employed with Texas Instruments in Dallas.
He married Karen Jo Henderson on March 6, 1976, and returned to Athens in 1979. He was employed with Hearn Surveying Associates. He was later employed by Lancaster's Tom's Sales until 1999, when he assumed ownership and management of Lancaster's Hav-A-Snack Foods.
He was a member of Leagueville Baptist Church. He enjoyed computers, electronics and fishing and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Mr. Lancaster is survived by his wife, Karen Lancaster of Athens; daughter, Debi Lancaster of Glen Rose; parents, Dan and Betty Lancaster of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Joe Butler of Athens; maternal grandmother, Gladys Douglas of Kerens; mother and father-in-law, Jenny and Sid Booker of Fulton, Miss.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will include Danny Elledge, Dana Dungan, Lance Owen, Brad Fulton, David Trammell, Dr. Tim Furlong and Ronnie Marion.
Honorary pallbearers will include Kenneth Fulton, Jimmy McRae, Robert McLain, Paige McLain and Tony Douglas.
Visitation at Cooper Funeral Home is from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. The family will receive condolences Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
Alton Durwood Lewis
Services for Alton Durwood Lewis, 84, of Eustace were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eubank Chapel in Canton with Steve Bullard officiating.
Burial followed at Haven of Memories in Canton under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home Inc. of Canton.
Mr. Lewis died Nov. 12, 2004, in Henderson County.
He was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Eustace to Grady Wayne and Agnes Baker Lewis. He was born near the Big Rock area on the family ranch, which was originally established in 1841.
Mr. Lewis attended school in Eustace and was a decorated veteran, including the Purple Heart. He served during World War II in the North African and Italian campaigns. Upon returning home, he married Nan Pennington and farmed cotton near Mabank until 1956, when he moved to Dallas. He was a welding foreman for the Fritz W. Glitch Co. for over 30 years. After inheriting a portion of the original Lewis Ranch in 1970 from his father, in his spare time be continued the family tradition of cattle ranching until he retired from Glitch and became a full time cattle rancher for his last 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Earl Wayne "Tex" Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nan Pennington Lewis of Eustace; son, B.J. Lewis of Eustace; daughter, Linda Newland of Garland; sisters, Aline Hinton of Eustace, Joyce Hall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lois Ballard of Oceanside, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Sam Jock, Rex Whatley, Robert Hyde, Jim Hyde and Macky Lewis.
Honorary pallbearer was Irby Abbott.
Jacinto Vazquez
Services for Jacinto Vazquez, 45, of Amarillo and formerly of Athens, are pending with Cooper Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Vazquez died Nov. 13, 2004, in Amarillo.

Ruth Elle Godwin
Services for Ruth Elle Godwin, 75, of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at County Line Baptist Church with Mark Peterson officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home Inc. of Canton.
Mrs. Godwin died Nov. 4, 2004, in Tyler.
She was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Athens to Lonnie F. and Lottie Tanner Andress.
Mrs. Godwin was married to Bruce Wallace Godwin for 56 years when he preceded her in death just six months ago. She owned and operated Godwin Income Tax and Bookkeeping Service in Athens for 37 years. "Miss Ruth" was an active member of County Line Baptist Church in the Walton community. She loved quilting and cooking and treasured the time she spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Carl Andress and Clifton Andress; and sister, Dorothy Stephens.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Cathie Godwin of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Carl West of Athens; grandson and wife, Randy and Julie West; granddaughters and husbands, Leah and Russell Rayburn and Stacy and Ross Mills; two great-grandchildren, Cody Rayburn and Ty Rayburn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilson, Jamie Jackson, Ivy Joe Godwin, Lanny Godwin, Billy Paris and Randy Osborne.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Matthew Dean Johnson
Services for Matthew Dean Johnson, 25, will be held Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Rose Heights Church with the Rev. Mervin Scott and Pastor Lynn Hildreth officiating.
Interment will follow at Deadwood Methodist Cemetery in Deadwood under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Matthew, a commercial photographer, ended his earthly adventure on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in a tragic airplane crash near Kirksville, Mo., while on a photographic assignment.
While at Longview High School, Matthew was a member of the Longview Lobo Band, a member of the SRO theater group, a member of the Computer Science Team and was a Globe Scholar. Following graduation in 1997, Matthew attended Kilgore College. While there, he served as opinion editor, executive editor and photographer for the student newspaper, The Flare. He was selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and Who's Who in Journalism at Kilgore College.
He was an outstanding journalist and photographer, winning numerous awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association and the Texas Community College Journalism Association. While attending Kilgore College, he worked part time for the Longview News Journal, where he learned many real world lessons about journalism.
He graduated from Kilgore College in May 2000, and entered Texas A&M Commerce, pursuing a degree in photography. He was a member of Alpha Chi, the National College Honor Scholarship Society. While attending Texas A&M Commerce, he pursued the art of photography with an unrelenting passion and was published three times in CMYK magazine, a national collegiate portfolio of the visual arts. One of those photos was chosen as a winner in the 2004 Soho Photo National Competition and was displayed in the Soho Photo Gallery in New York City.
He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M Commerce in December 2003, with a bachelor's degree of science in photography. Matthew then began his work in the field of commercial photography in the Dallas area.
Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carlton and Erlene Johnson of Carthage; maternal grandparents, Charles T. Dean of Athens and R.M. "Sonny" and Elizabeth "Liz" Dean McGuffey of Athens.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Terry and Melinda Dean Johnson of Longview; fianc/, Danea Males of Commerce; aunt, Rhonda Jones of Carthage; uncle, Daniel Johnson of Carthage; uncle and aunt, Mike and Linda Dean Georgetown, cousins, Mindy and Shannon Baker of Longview; David and Keri Dean of League City, Scott and Christy Dean of Dallas and Andy Dean of Katy.
Pallbearers will be David Dean, Scott Dean, Andy Dean, Steve Green, Matthew Hardin, Michael Kilpatrick and Ronn Meyer.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Sharp, Brian Cline and Jake Botter.
Family will receive friends form 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
