Cecil Mays
Funeral services for Cecil Mays, 80 of Chandler will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Highway 31 Church of Christ in Brownsboro with Bernie Bauer officiating. Cooper Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Mays passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 4, 2004, in Tyler.
Mr. Mays was born to Cornelius and Viola Mays in Kensett, Ark.
He was raised and attended schools in Missouri. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served during World War II as a gunner and glider pilot. He served in the European Theater along the Rhine River in Germany and was awarded three bronze stars. After leaving the service, he attended Falls Business College and was employed by L.B. Pierce Mercantile in St. Louis, Mo.
As a business administrator for the company, he was assigned to several locations in Tennessee, including Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga and Knoxville. He married Dannie Anderson in 1978 and after retirement they moved to Camden, Tenn., and later moved to Lake Palestine in 1988. During his retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors and spent time gardening and fishing. One of his great joys was spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.
Mr. Mays is survived by his wife, Dannie Leola Mays of Chandler; sons and daughters in law, William and Diane Stice of Cary, N.C., Jerry and Rhonda Stice of Malakoff, Dennis and Lillie Stice of Bartlett, Tenn., and Danny and Debbie Stice of Hammond, Louisiana; daughters and sons-in-law, Dannie May and Don Baker of Brownsboro and Brenda and Larry Drennan of Montalba; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Lonnie E. Ferrell Jr.
Services for Lonnie E. Ferrell Jr., 84, of Payne Springs were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Payne Springs Assembly of God Church with Mark Vaughn officiating.
Burial followed at Patterson Cemetery in Cross Roads under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Mr. Ferrell died Nov. 23, 2004, in Payne Springs.
He was born April 24, 1922, in Dallas to Lonnie E. and Lola Ferrell.
Mr. Ferrell served in the U.S. Navy and has lived in the Malakoff/Payne Springs area for 50 years. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walton and William Ferrell; sisters, Julia Slocum, Elaine Bratcher and Joann Walker; his wife, Dorothy Ferrell, on Sept. 27, 2000; and a grandson, Joseph S. Ferrell, in 2001.
Survivors include his daugther and son-in-law, Lola and Earl Wayne Beets; sons and daugthers-in-law, Toney Ferrell of Malakoff, Mark and Rosemary Ferrell of Cross Roads, Dan and Dana Ferrell of Trinidad, Joe Ferrell of Payne Springs and Kelvin and Jessica Ferrell of Payne Springs; sisters, Frances Clem of Dallas, Lucille Pritchard of Irving, Dorothy Lough of Missouri and Mary Osborne of Dallas; 32 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Nolan A. 'Hank' Richardson
Services for Nolan A. "Hank" Richardson, 74, of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Foster & Brown Chapel in Athens with Chaplain Calvin Gustin officiating.
Burial will follow at Black Jack Cemetery under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Richardson died Nov. 22, 2004, in Athens.
He was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Leagueville to Dee and Bessie Darden Richardson.
Mr. Richardson served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force for over 16 years, including a tour in Korea. He married Virginia Jane Barnes on Feb. 4, 1956. He warned a BBA from the University of Texas in 1970. He owned and operated Nolan Richardson Wholesale in Athens and Austin. He worked for many years as a field investigator for the health department in Texas and Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dee Richardson Jr. and Wayne Richardson.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Richardson of Austin; daughters, Linda Shirley of Austin and Karen and husband, Joe Saxon of Houston; sons, Henry and wife, Aya Richardson of Vancouver, Canada, and Darrell Richardson of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Joyce Stewart of Tyler and Ann and husband, Phil Brown of Lampasas; cousins, Vegie and Eva Joyce Darden of Athens; and grandchildren, Michael Shirley and Jennifer and husband, Ronn Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Michael Shirley, Bobby Guthrie, Ronn Roberts, Michael Darden, Phil Brown and Al Barnes.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Almeta Warren
Funeral services for Almeta Warren, 93, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Athens with the Rev. Reginald Garrett officiating.
Burial will follow at North Athens Cemetery under the direction of Garrett & Tucker Funeral Directors in Athens.
Mrs. Warren died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at a local nursing home.
She was born April 11, 1911, in Smith County to Dora Pullins and Will Waldon.
She grew up in Henderson County. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and attended Blackshear High School in Athens.
Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. S.L. Warren; and one sister, Rena Mae White.
Survivors include two sisters, Beulah Shelton and Pearline Gammage, both of Athens; goddaughter, Jo Ann Hill of Athens; godson, Phil Sims of Tacoma, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Hogg, James Brookins, Stanford Hill Jr., Patrick Hill, Manford Hill, Victor Craig Hogg, Murphy Wright and Frazier Givens.
James Harry Bowers
Services for James Harry Bowers, 71, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitney Memorial Park in Whitney with Chaplain Calvin Gustin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Bowers died Nov. 8, 2004, in Athens.
He was born July 15, 1933, in Waxahachie to Harry H. and Irma Murdock Bowers.
Mr. Bowers served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 through 1961. He was a professional wrestler and a caterer.
Survivors include his sisters, Patricia Bowers Madis and Linda Kay Bowers Kunkler, both of Brownsboro; daugthers, Jeanne Knowles and Debbie Smith; sons, Jimmy Bowers, Dennis Bowers and Jason Bowers; four grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mikale Erickson
Services for Mikale Erickson, 26, of Canton are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Eubank Chapel in Canton with the Rev. Bill Lane officiating.
Burial followed at Haven of Memories in Canton under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home Inc. of Canton.
Ms. Erickson died Nov. 15, 2004, in Canton.
She was born Dec. 24, 1978, in Athens.
Survivors include her daughters, Siara and Savana Erickson; mother, Rhonda Terry Erickson of Canton; father, Daniel M. Erickson of Irma, Wis..; sister, Krystale Wilson of San Antonio; and grandfather, Jack Elliott of Canton.
Pallbearers will be Richard Vanaman, Ronnie Mebane, Mike Geiser, Craig Rogers, James Harris, Jordan Vanaman, Johnny White and Drew Jones.

Boyd Kent Warren
A memorial service for Boyd Kent Warren, 75, of Shreveport, La., are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Palmer officiating.
Mr. Warren died Nov. 11, 2004.
He was born April 7, 1929 to William Boyd Warren and Maggie Lee Nethery.
Mr. Warren graduated from Athens High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1949 with his cousin, Dean McGee. He stationed in Guam and Viet Nam. He retired in Barstow, Calif., in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and cousin, Dean McGee.
Survivors include his son, Boyd Kent Warren Jr. of Bossier City, La.; brother, William Grady Warren; sister, Belva June Davis of Conroe; stepbrother, Larry Kent Nethery of Palestine; uncles, Woodrow Wilson Warren and Jim Bob Warren of Athens; aunt, Phyllis Warren Adams of Carrizo Springs; and many cousins in the Athens area.
