Bascom 'Bac' Porter Gentry
Services for Bascom "Bac" Porter Gentry, 76, of Gun Barrel City passed away Dec. 22, 2004, in Tyler.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Aley United Methodist Church, which is located at 1215 West Cedar Creek Parkway in Seven Points.
Mr. Gentry was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Jacksonville and was a resident of El Paso, Chapparral, N.M., and Gun Barrel City.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from Civil Service in 1988 and spent the rest of his life as a carpenter. A giving, man, Bac was a lifetime member of Optimist International, delivered Meals on Wheels and was an active member of his church.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Gentry.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Gentry; children, Doyle Dane Gentry, Nacheska Gentry Combs, Carri P. Gentry and Buck Gentry; grandchildren, Stefanie Cuomo, Sean Cullin, Melanie Aguilar, Alicia Gentry, David Logan, Kenneth Holt, Brenda Jones, Gabrielle Glover, Chance Borger, Anastacia Borger, Andrew Holt and Luke Gentry.
Pallbearers will be Buck Gentry, Doyle Gentry, David Logan, Robert Blaase, Marty Goss and Curtis Webster and alternate pallbearers will be Roger Gentry.
Mr. Gentry will lie in state from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Burial will follow his service at King Cemetery in Kemp.
G.P. Owen Jr.
Services for G.P Owen Jr., 78, of Cedar Creek Lake are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Malakoff with Bro. Robert Webb and Bro. Casey Perry officiating.
Burial will be at Mankin Cemetery in Trinidad under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Mr. Owen departed this life on Christmas Eve at his beloved home on Cedar Creek Lake.
He was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Hereford to Gleaves and Donnie Owen.
G.P. received his bachelor's degree from Hardin Simmons, then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his military service, G.P. taught high school in Pecos, where he met his wife of 44 years, Jane Ellzy. He then received his master's degree in mathematics from the University of Texas. G.P. and Jane moved to Fort Worth in 1952 to work and rear their family. He worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst for Lockheed Martin for over 41 years and then retired to Cedar Creek Lake.
After Jane's death in 1996, the beautiful Jean Corley from the other side of the lake came into his life.
G.P. actively and joyfully served his Lord as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, then First Baptist Church of Malakoff until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Steve Owen and his wife, Donna, and their children, Brandon, Brody and Brice of Fort Worth; daughter, Susan Owen of Oklahoma City; Jean's Children, Susan, Michael and Robert and their families. G.P. had and dearly loved a glorious mess of brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.
Christine Blackstone Wehrli
Private family services for Christine Blackstone Wehrli, 88, of Athens were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Wehrli died Dec. 26, 2004, in Tyler.
She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Frierson, La., to Edd O. Lively and Ethyl Houston Lively.
Mrs. Wehrli was the retired chair of the Division of Language Arts at Trinity Valley Community College. She had a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University and a master's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens and was active in the Methodist women's group. For many years, she played piano for McCarey's Chapel Methodist Church in Liberty City.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom O. Blackstone, in 1976; her parents; and brother, Edd O. Lively Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Norman D. Wehrli of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward R. and Peggie Blackstone of Liberty City and Tom S. and Debbie Blackstone of Plano; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Johnny Ray Kirkwood
Graveside services with military honors for Johnny Ray Kirkwood, 62 of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at LaRue Cemetery with Gary Bowman officiating. Cooper Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of the arrangements.
He passed away Friday morning, Dec. 17, 2004, in Athens.
Mr. Kirkwood was born on Oct. 23, 1942, in Athens and lived most of his life in Henderson County. He served his country in the U.S Army during the Vietnam War.
After his military service he returned to Henderson County and worked as a master plumber and master electrician for several companies. His most recent employment was as a maintenance supervisor with Henderson County.
His family was the center of his attention and especially his grandchildren who affectionately knew him as "Pipaw." He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes and washers. He also enjoyed cooking and was known for his preparation of barbecue ribs and homemade dressing.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Riley Kirkwood; stepfather, Mann Boyd; father-in-law, Sam Rhoden; and a brother, Homer Kirkwood.
Mr. Kirkwood is survived by his wife, Dottie Kirkwood of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Darren and Cheree Kirkwood of Wills Point, Zabe Truesdell of Austin and Danny and Shea Kirkwood of Arlington; daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Chris Bettencourt of Athens and Misty and Kevin Bowman of LaRue; mother, Lou Ella Boyd of Athens; mother-in-law, Louise Rhoden of LaRue; a brother, Larry Boyd of Greenville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pat and Larry Baker of Athens, Bob and Val Rhoden of Ong, Neb., and Chuck and Bettie Wyatt of Kalispell, Mont.; grandchildren, Allie Kirkwood of Athens, Bryce and Brady Bowman of LaRue, Adison and Riley Kirkwood of Wills Point and Peyton and Kelsey Bettencourt of Athens.

Jimmie Fay Shotwell Wasson
Services for Jimmie Fay Shotwell Wasson, 67, of Log Cabin were held Wednesday at Foster & Brown Chapel with Shawn Paschal officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Wasson died Dec. 12, 2004, in Log Cabin.
She was born Jan. 9, 1937, in Dallas County to Thomas Wesley Shotwell and Thelma Daniels Shotwell.
Mrs. Wasson dedicated her life to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert L. Wasson, on March 14, 2004; sister, Jeanett Shotwell; and brothers, Thomas Shotwell and Johnny Shotwell.
Survivors include her children, Janet Wasson of Dallas, David Wasson of Log Cabin, Stephanie Espinosa of Log Cabin, Diana Lee Summerall of Log Cabin, Laura Kay SluSher of LaRue and Jimmy Wasson of Log Cabin; brothers, Calvin Shotwell, Bobby Shotwell, Jerry Shotwell and Edward Shotwell; sisters, Wilma Carlise, Sharon McCarghen, Wanda Shotwell, Nancy Stowell Strain and Beverly Shotwell Bratton; stepmother, Violet Shotwell; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Terry Wayne Brookins
Services for Terry Wayne Brookins, 41, of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Athens.
Burial will follow at North Athens Cemetery under the direction of Garrett & Tucker Funeral Directors of Athens.
Mr. Brookins died Dec. 16, 2004.
He was born Dec. 31, 1962.
