Arlie Lee Gaston
Services for Arlie Lee Gaston, 68, of Malakoff were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview Missionary Baptist Church in Malakoff with the Rev. Ron Huckabee officiating.
Burial followed at Malakoff Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Mr. Gaston died Dec. 18, 2004, in Tyler.
He was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Van Zandt County to Ed and Eva Gaston.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Gaston of Malakoff; children, Glenn Gaston and Robert Gaston, both of Malakoff, Dale Gaston and wife, Tammy, of Kilgore, and Darla Ott and husband, Richard, of Malakoff; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Myrtle Stevens
Services for Myrtle Stevens, 92, of Malakoff are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Foster & Brown Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Richard Fulton officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Stevens died Dec. 19, 2004, in Malakoff.
She was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Colfax, La., to James and Carmella Pugh Hataway.
Mrs. Stevens was a member of Central Baptist Church of Athens.
She was preceded by her parents; husband, Howard D. Stevens, in 1980; son, Larry D. Stevens, in 1949; daughter, Sandra J. Sabah, in 2002; and granddaughter, Amy A. Swift, in 2002.
Survivors include her daughters, Jerry L. Cammerino of Dallas and Linda Kay Hall and husband, Ronald G. Hall, of Cross Roads; grandchildren, Lori Cammerino, Chris Cammerino, Kristie Lambert and her husband, Brad Lambert, Julie West and her husband, Randy West, and Michael Hall and his wife, Wendi Hall, and Jill Sabah; and two great-grandchildren, Walker Lambert and Zachery Swift.
Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Larry Blagburn
Services for Larry Blagburn, 46, of Athens are pending with Cooper Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Blagburn died Dec. 20, 2004.
George R. Abernathy, Jr.
Graveside services for George R. Abernathy, Jr. will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at noon at the DFW National Cemetery under the direction of Delta Funeral Home in Cooper.
Mr. Abernathy was born in Athens, Aug. 11, 1925 to George Ross and Mary Lou Jernigan Abernathy.
He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and was a college history professor at the University of Texas, Rice, Alabama and North Carolina Universities.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Dodson.
Survivors include four brothers, Herbert Abernathy of Cumby, Donald Abernathy of Cooper, Bobby Abernathy of Fort Worth and Dan Abernathy of Abilene; a sister, Floy Little of Sealy; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Cooper.
Wayne Turner 'Bubba' Burkhalter Jr.
Services for Wayne Turner "Bubba" Burkhalter Jr., 52, of Chatfield are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Corsicana.
Mr. Burkhalter died March 30, 2002.
He was born July 29, 1950, in Corsicana to Wayne Burkhalter Sr., and Bobbie Sherrer Burkhalter.
Mr. Burkhalter attended Rice Schools and high school in Corsicana. He received his bachelor of science from Texas A&M University in 1972 and his masters degree in agriculture from East Texas State University in 1978. He taught agriculture at Navarro College for 10 years and at Trinity Valley Community College for 15 years. He sponsored many student judging, show cattle and rodeo teams. He played the guitar, enjoyed singing, riding horses and working with his father on the Rocking X ranch. He played with the Nitty Gritty Church Band at the Chatfield United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Central Texas Quarter Horse Association, Foundation Quarter Horse Association, American Simmental Association, National Cutting Horse Association, ABS, and was a supporter of Navarro and Henderson County Youth expos. He served as livestock judge in many counties across Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Virginia "Ginger" Parten Burkhalter of Chatfield; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Joe Putman; sons, William Kyle Burkhalter and Benjamin Wayne Burkhalter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherry and Charles Bancroft, Judy and Brent Jones, Janet and Jim Wilson and Peggy and Robert Drain; grandchildren, Morgan and Devan Putman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
John Alford "Barto" Evans
Services for Johnie Alford Evans, 93, of Athens, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home with the Reverend Ray Brooks officiating.
Burial was to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Evans died Mary 29, 2002 in Athens.
He was born Aug. 29, 1908 in Henderson County to John Adam and Melissa Farmer Evans.
He spent most of his life in Henderson County and the Fort Worth area and served in the Army between 1942 and 1945.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clara Drew Evans; brothers, Jessie Evans, B.D. "Tony" Evans; sisters, Elva Patterson, Marie Kyle, Grace Granthan, Minnie Lee, Glady Carnes and Vera Lou Sarlors.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Larry Sims, Danny Wilbanks, Bobby Little, Coy Little, George Little and Johnny Shelton.
