Ruby 'Mo' Scott Blohm
Ruby "Mo" Scott Blohm, 90, of the Opelika community passed from this mortal world into eternal life on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, in Malakoff.
She was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Eden to the late James Thomas and Alma Elizabeth Jackson Scott and had resided in Opelika for 30 years. She was preceded in death by brothers, H.C. Jernigan Sr. and Doyal O. Scott.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin H. Blohm of Opelika; son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Marinell Pieper of Marshall; daughter, Wanda Pieper Elliott of Deer Park; sister, Zelma Bessent of Murchison; seven grandchildren, James Edward O'Neill and wife, Susan, Debra O'Neill Dexter and husband, Russell, Lawrence Michael O'Neill and wife, Marilyn, Ruby O'Neill Jones and husband, Harold, Ernest Pieper Elliott, Scott Wayne Pieper and Jody Dale Pieper Sr. and wife, Janette; nine great-grandchildren, Jason O'Neill and wife, Miranda, Wanda Marie Wiggin and husband, Chris, Patrick Dexter, Timithy O'Neill, Erika O'Neill, Brian O'Neill, Jody Pieper Jr., Anna Jones and Summer Elliott; and one-great-great-grandson, Michael Wayne O'Neill-Span. Mo also leaves behind many special friends in the Opelika community, or as she would call them "my adopted kids." She loved them all so very much.
A celebration of the life of Ruby "Mo" Blohm will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
We thank God for placing this wonderful lady in our lives to bring us joy, words of wisdom and precious memories to fill the space she has left.

Aileen Garrard
Funeral services for Aileen Garrard, 89, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Joe Warren officiating.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Garrard died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at South Place Nursing Home in Athens.
She was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Kerrville to the late Earl Barrett and Minnie Aileen McRae Elam.
Mrs. Garrard was a resident of Athens the past 13 years, and a former resident of Fort Worth. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Worth and -- since her move to Athens -- she attended Wesley United Methodist church. She was Miss Ohio at age 14 of the Miss Ohio Beauty Pageant, and studied voice at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., where she obtained her teaching certificate.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil A. Young, in 1986.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Arthur Herrington of Athens; son, Dan Glenn of Boerne; grandchildren, Cheryl K. Herrington of Missouri City, and Arthur Jr. and wife, Linda Herrington of Fort Worth; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

David Allen Hollowell
Services for David Allen Hollowell, 18, of Winnsboro are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Winnsboro High School Gym with Dr. Philip Chacko, the Rev. Mark Friesen and Steve Pinnell officiating.
Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
David died Aug. 3, 2003, in Winnsboro.
He was born July 18, 1985, in Pampa.
He was a student at Winnsboro High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club, on the A Honor Roll, and played on the Red Raider football, basketball, tennis and track teams. He also won the school history award in 2003. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Winnsboro, where he was a participant on the Christian Youth Fellowship Council, youth board representative and Camp Longhorn campfirelighter. His hobbies were golf and playing in the Red Raider band.
Survivors include his father and mother, Kevin and Linda Hollowell of Winnsboro; sister, Teri Lynn Hollowell of Winnsboro; paternal grandparents, Frank and Betty Hollowell of Athens; maternal grandparents, Aldena and Amos Lucas of Athens; grandparents, Ghetta Wagner of Waco; aunts and uncles, Deidra and Rob Robertson of Burnet, Dina Hollowell and Kirk Hollowell of Athens, Georgia and Dennis Daly of Jarales, N.M., Martha Scott of Waco, Grace and Mickal Collier of Huntington, Kenny Murphy of Golden City, Mo.; and numerous cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Trent Futral, Luke Nichols, Jonathan Radar, Anthony Slaughter, Chris Wilson, Patrick Robertson and J.T. Winkle.
Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Stella Floy Day Pace
Graveside services for Stella Floy Day Pace, 109, of Athens will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Owen Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Joe Warren officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens.
Ms. Pace died Aug. 4, 2003, at her home in Athens, where she had lived all her life. She was born Sept. 5, 1893, in Henderson County to William Rufus Day and Mary Runnels Thomas on the land her father homesteaded in 1895.
On Dec. 20, 1911, she married David Lloyd Pace, who preceded her in death in 1937. In June 1996 she was honored by Land Commissioner Rick Perry as being the oldest recipient of the Family Land Heritage Program Award for having lived 100 years on the land on which she was born. The program was held in the LBJ Auditorium in Austin and the award was accepted for her by her family.
Ms. Pace was also preceded in death by son, Clyde Day Pace, in 1978; and daughter, Mary Will Pace Wagoner Stiefel, in 1992.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred Lloyd and Oleta Pace of New York community; three daughters, Stella Floy Pace, Martha Nell and son-in-law, Fred Pugh, and Marjorie Owens, all of Athens. "Mama Stella," as she was affectionately called, will also be missed by her grandchildren, Elaine Asmussen, Peggy Hall, Tony Owens, Linda Trantham, Terry Spence, Sue Rife, Bill Pace, Jerry Pugh, Joy Burnett and Jon Pugh; 25 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony Owens, Bill Pace, Jerry Pugh, Bob Asmussen, Billy Hall and Cecil Trantham.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of East Texas or the American Heart Association.
Dorothy Reeves Talton
Dorothy Reeves Talton was called to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was the oldest daughter born to Benjamin Ruben Reeves and Jo Essie Reeves on Aug. 23, 1928, in Buckholts. Both parents are deceased.
She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She has always been the caregiver in her family and to the end was more concerned for her family than herself. Dorothy was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Athens for 45 years and volunteered at the Athens Food Pantry for many years. She worked 16 years on the nursing staff at Lakeland Medical Center.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 56 years, Arthur I. Talton. Her children are Ardith Daily and husband, Patrick, Dayna Abowd and husband, Joe and Tamara Talton. One brother, Kenneth Reeves of Rockdale, also survived her. Surviving sisters are Sue Dodson and Tina Crenshaw of Irving, Patsy Rives of Texas City, B.J. Fritz of Kilgore and Connie Rogan of Tampa, Fla. She had five grandchildren who will miss her and miss her bear hugs as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Joe Abowd, Robert Barnett, Pat Daily, Ralph Dodson, Hunter Dunn, Jim Ownes, Tom Taylor and Gene Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701; First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 911, Athens, TX 75751; or to Henderson County Food Pantry, 715 East Corsicana, Athens, TX 75751.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, located at the corner of East College Street and Lovers Lane in Athens.
Interment was at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
Alfred L. Ginn
Services for Alfred L. Ginn, 87, were held at 2 p.m. in Rosewood Funeral Home Chapel in Humble.
Burial followed at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Home of Humble.
Mr. Ginn died Nov. 9, 2001.
He was born July 25, 1914, in Marshall.
Mr. Ginn served in the U.S. Navy During World War II. He was an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Cora Mae; brother, F.L. Ginn; sister, Pauline Fontenot; and grandsons, Johnny Fuller and Gene Norwood.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Joy Fuller of Athens, Jeanine and Eugene Norwood of Goldthwaite, Judy and Millard Smith of Highlands and Jacquelyn and R.C. Ham of Pasadena; sisters, Collette Woodward of Vidor, Louise Zalmanzig of Waller and Lucille Roberts of Woodville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Raymond "Shorty' Hammers
Services for Raymond "Shorty" Hammers, 81, of Fort Worth were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank with the Rev. Steve Glosup officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Hammers died Nov. 9, 2001, in Fort Worth.
He was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Mineola to John and Sudie Barton Hammers.
Previously of Mesquite and Seagoville, he lived most of his life in the Cedar Creek Lake area. He was a Baptist. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Seagoville.
Survivors include his son, Jerry Hammers of Amarillo; daughters, Carolyn Andrews of DeSoto and Judy Walders of Amarillo; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
