Retha Whirley Chrisman
Graveside Services for Retha Whirley Chrisman, age 68, of Sulphur Springs, have been set for 10:00AM, Monday, September 3, 2018 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Ladonia, TX, with Brother Al Davis officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Jones, Bo Morris, Kemo Mack, James Cox, L.A. Morris, Herman Morris and Christopher Cox.
Ms. Chrisman was born in Commerce, TX, on July 1, 1950, the daughter of L.A Whirley and Opal Blackwell Whirley.
Retha worked as a waitress and then a CNA for many years before retiring.
She was a member of The Grace Family Church.
Survivors include, two daughters: Phiyllis Cox and husband, James, and Betty Morris and Kemo Mack; two sons: L.A. Morris and wife, Pam and Herman Morris, and wife, Elizabeth, all of Sulphur Springs; one step-son: James Smith; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: L.A. and Opal Whirley; two husbands: Riley Morris and Mike Chrisman; one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
Floyd Evertt Spears
A visitation for Floyd Evertt Spears, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Floyd passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs.
He was born on August 4, 1928 in Earle, Arkansas, the son of Enoch and Maude Pugh Spears.
Floyd served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952.
He later worked as an electrician for GM.
He married Patsy Keel on October 18, 1952 in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
She preceded him in death.
Floyd is survived by sons, Ricky E. Spears and wife Cheryl and David W. Spears and wife Donna, grandchildren, Ryan Spears, Jeffrey Spears, and Dennis Spears, great-grandchildren, Michael and Kaylee Spears.
In addition to his wife, Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
Michael Wess Jordan
Michael Wess Jordan, 73, of Mt. Vernon, Texas, passed away on November 23, 2020.
Michael is survived by his wife, Janet of 49 years, son, Josh Jordan and his wife, Kayce; daughter, Julianne Evans and her husband, Jason; brother, Jack Dale Jordan and his wife, Jo; and grandchildren, Emerson Jordan, Gillis Evans, Katherine Jordan and Jordan Evans.
Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Micki Jordan and his parents, Joe and Jean Jordan.
Mike was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, Texas.
Growing up he was a great athlete, playing most every sport.
He attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce) where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Never one to shy away from hard work, Mike started out selling office equipment out of college and then, soon bought his first nursing home.
From there, he continued his success in the healthcare industry and eventually grew his family’s home healthcare business, Jordan Health Services, into one of the most successful home healthcare companies in Texas.
Outside of work, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and carrying on family traditions.
One of his favorite family traditions was cooking his fried quail breakfast every Christmas morning.
Other than his family, Mike’s other passions were hunting, fishing and shooting.
He was a competitive skeet shooter for many years and enjoyed traveling and taking hunting trips with friends.
His travels took him all over the world, eventually visiting six continents.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00pm at Harvey Funeral Home on Friday, November 27th.
Funeral services for Mike will be at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, on Saturday, November 28th at 1:00pm.
A private funeral will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cumby, for family at 10:00am on Saturday before the funeral services.
Jerry Don Putman
Jerry Don Putman, age 74, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Irving, Texas, after a well-fought battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He was born on July 14, 1944 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to parents Olvies Putman and Maurine Estelle Hatchett.
Jerry graduated from Como High School in 1962.
He then attended East Texas State University in Commerce, TX.
Jerry began his career in the optical industry working for Southern Optical Corp and later became a Manufacturer’s Representative for several major optical companies.
He married the love of his life, Kathy McKay, on June 26, 1981.
Jerry was a great family man and a loving father.
He is preceded in death by his parent, Olvies and Maurine Hatchett Putman, of Sulphur Springs, TX, his brother James Putman and sister Patsy Putman Johnson.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy McKay Putman; daughters, Chelsea Putman Hodges and husband, Blake of Stephenville, TX, Sophia Beaudin of Chester, NJ. Mary Beaudin of Colorado Spring, CO; grandchildren, Megan Carrigan, and Liam Shamhart.
No services are scheduled at this time.

Charles Cecil Smith
Memorial services for Charles Cecil Smith, age 52, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garry Jordan and Rev. Lee Huff officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2018 at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Charles passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs.
He was born on September 10, 1965, in Sutton, West Virginia, to Dennis Jefferson Smith and Phyllis June Shaver, but was raised in foster care by Nellie and Arlie Cottrill.
He married Alicia S. Harvey on July 24, 1986 in El Paso, TX.
She survives.
Charles served in the United States Army from 1984 to 1990.
He then became a truck driver and drove for 5 different companies in 27 years.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 66.
In addition to his wife, Alicia Smith, Charles is survived by children, Lydia Moore of Austin, TX, Ulysses Urias of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Derek Harvey of Houston, TX, granddaughter, Chloe Madison Box of Austin, TX, grandsons, Ethan Moore of Austin, TX, Jordan Harvey of Houston, TX, brothers, Denver Smith of Cleveland, OH, Glen Cottrill of Lawton, OK, and sisters, Ardena Smith of Vacaville, CA, Shelby Wickline of Union, WV, Lena Wright of Gassaway, WV, and Evelyn Boyce of Sutton, WV.
He is preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, six brothers, and three sisters.

Barbara Kay Hume
Barbara Kay Hume, age 74, of Sulphur Bluff, Texas, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 in Tyler, Texas.
Graveside services will be on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Collier’s Chapel Cemetery at 1:00 pm with Bro. Randall Rex Sinclair officiating.
Pallbearers will be Sam Stanley, Matt Deal, Randy Edge, Toby Hume, Koby Hume, and Rusty Barker.
Barbara was born to John Joseph and Laura D. “Rogers” Glover on April 28, 1946 in Mount Vernon, Texas.
She married Gene Alwyn Hume on January 22, 1972 in Scroggins, Texas.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sulphur Bluff Young Homemakers Club.
She is preceded in death by parents; husband, Gene Hume; infant son, Joe Eugene Hume and sister, Judy Beth Deal.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura Hume of Sulphur Bluff, Texas, and Mary Clair Orrill and husband, Joshua of Hughes Springs, Texas; granddaughter, Arron Nicole Orrill of Washington State; sisters, Minnie Birdsong and Janet Stanley; brothers, Joe Glover and Zack Glover and wife, Fern.

Gerald Wayne Swann
Mr. Gerald Wayne Swann, age 72, of Winnsboro, passed away August 17, 2018.
Gerald was born May 14th, 1946 in Wood County, to the late Gerald Anderson Swann and Alma Marie Swann.
He graduated Winnsboro High School in 1963.
He was drafted into the Army following high school.
Gerald attended East Texas State College of Commerce, Texas.
Graduating in 1970 with Bachelors degree in Science, Gerald was Refinery & plant manager of Gulf States Oil Refinery of Quitman, Texas, for over 9 years.
After closing the refinery, he owned a real estate office in Winnsboro, for 6 years.
Gerald then worked for Kelly Tire Plant until his retirement in 2007.
He has been blessed to enjoy 10 wonderful years of retirement.
He is preceded in death by his son, William Christopher O’Brien; his parents; his sister, Doris Woodard; brothers, Tommy Swann, Billy Swann & David Swann.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Pearson Swann of Winnsboro; daughters, Colleen Cobb & husband, Dan of Highland Village; Jeannie Weaver & husband, David of Tyler and Teri Deer & husband Mike of Quitman, Texas. Grandchildren, Helen Sperling, David Thatcher Cobb, David Ridge Weaver, Skylar Hope Deer & Heather Grace Deer. Siblings, Terry Swann, Judy Holt, Harry Swann, Ronny Swann, Bruce Swann, Donna Lupton, Beth Takacs, Sharon Allen, Brad Swann & best friend, Nick Winkle.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 30th from 6 to 8 PM at the Winnsboro City Park Auditorium.
David Bascom Anders
Funeral service for David Bascom Anders, age 72, of Quinlan, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Shanon Salsman officiating.
Interment will follow at South Liberty Cemetery with Steven Shotwell, Cody Sewell, Justin Graves, Danny Anders, Wesley Anders, Jarrett Sitton serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
David passed away on August 20th, 2018.

Charles “Randy” Jenkins
Funeral Services for Charles “Randy” Jenkins, age 76, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Michael Davis officiating and Rev. Mike Stone assisting.
Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery with Kirk Gaston, Dale Elmore, Tim Elmore, Ronny Henry, Aaron Hohenberger, Justin Strickland, Mac McCoy and Donny Henry serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Jenkins passed away at his residence on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

Marjorie ‘Marge’ Johnson
Graveside services for Marjorie “Marge” Johnson, age 87, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Brashear Cemetery with Bro. Steve Cook officiating.
Pallbearers will be Todd Nance, Sam Johnson, Billy Bob Stewart, Randy Stewart, Chris Kelly, David Kelly, John Hammons, and Owen Kelly. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m., prior to service, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Marge passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Rock Creek Health and Rehab.
She was born on July 26, 1933 in Brashear, Texas, the daughter of Roy Emmet and Leona Lucy Moore Stewart.
Marge grew up on the family farm and graduated from Cumby High School.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Weslian Sunday School Class.
She worked in banking at Sulphur Springs State Bank/Alliance bank for over 40 years.
She married William Charles Johnson on October 26, 1957.
He preceded her in death on July 31, 2016.
She is survived by sons, Kent Johnson and wife Jozie of Sulphur Springs, Jeff Johnson and wife Debbie of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Jill Kelly and husband Chris of Prosper, Texas; sister, Carolyn Nance of Sulphur Springs; sisters-in-law, Louise Stewart of Brashear and Vera Ann Johnson of Sulphur Springs; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elton Stewart; and grandson, Andrew Kelly.
