Aubrey B. 'Jack' Clayton
Funeral services for Aubrey B. “Jack” Clayton, 88, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Stribling, Sr. and Willis Taylor officiating.
Hopkins County Military Coalition conducted graveside burial honors at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Alfred McKerson, James Askew, Cedric Wilson, Byron Wright, Sigmond Wright and Melvin Wright, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Deacons of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Autrey Z. Pride, Ken Ritz, Gerald Young, Lesley Clayton Jr., Donald Jeffery and Billy Clayton served as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Clayton died at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 29, 2007.
He was born in the East Caney community of Hopkins County on July 28, 1919, the son of Frank Clayton and Maggie Spigner Clayton.
He married Florence J. Wright on March 15, 1947, in Hopkins County. She survives.
Mr. Clayton was a retired greenskeeper for the Sulphur Springs Country Club for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in Europe and was a longtime member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Other survivors include seven sons, Jackie Clayton, Raymond Clayton and Kevin Clayton, all of Dallas, Danny Clayton, Dwight Clayton and Zebedee Clayton, all of Sulphur Springs, and Lafayette Clayton of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Wardell Foster of Desoto, and Maggie Monroe of Ardmore, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harvey James Clayton; one daughter, Migyon Montgomery; six brothers; Dudley Clayton, Harvey Clayton, Zebedee Clayton, Raymond Clayton, Sonny Clayton and Marcel Clayton; and two sisters, Domer Pride and Frankie Berry.
Tapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marvis Franklin Southward
Graveside services for Marvis Franklin Southward, 85, of Saltillo, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007 at Stouts Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Guy Mays officiating.
Mr. Southward died at 10:33 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Mission Manor Nursing Home in Mount Vernon.
He was born in Hedrick, Okla., on Dec. 15, 1921, the son of James Rice and Ruby Lee Clinkscale Southward.
He married Mary Ellen Teer on Nov. 4, 1946. She survives.
Mr. Southward served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist faith.
Other survivors include one brother, Harold Southward.
He was preceded in death by one son, Arvis Southward.
Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Opal P. White
Funeral services for Opal P. White, 90, of Greenville, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville with Mrs. Sandy Hurst and the Rev. Johnny Hailes officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery with Jim Stroupe, Frank Surles, David Surles and Chuck Allen serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. White’s great-grandsons Dakota and Sage Griffin.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at the funeral home.
Mrs. White died Tuesday, July 3, 2007.
She was born in Hunt County on Jan. 25, 1917, the daughter of James and Sudie Parrish Peaton.
She married A.C. “Bunk” White in Hugo, Okla, on Aug. 8, 1936. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. White worked for many years at Southern Fashion Cleaners in Greenville. She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, James White of Greenville; one daughter, Sue Hicks of Greenville; five grandchildren, Bobby White of South Carolina, Shannon White of Sulphur Springs, Kim Hicks of Greenville, Frank Surles Jr. of Walls, Miss., and Jamie Dixon of Sherman; and seven great-grandchildren, Shari’ Copeland and Christa Potter of Sulphur Springs, Dakota Griffin, Sage Griffin and Chacey Surles, all of Greenville, and Cody and Paul David.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joyce White Surles Sharp; one grandson, Thomas G. White; one brother, Jim Peaton; and three sisters, Stella Durham, Dee Satterwhite and Lucille Peaton.
Arthur H. Kirkland
Funeral services for Arthur Huston Kirkland, 79, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell, Okla.
Interment will be in Lawnview Cemetery following the services.
Viewing will be held at 8 a.m. at the funeral home until service time.
Mr. Kirkland died Saturday, June 28, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1923, in Port, Okla., to Alva C. and Myra Brewster Kirkland. He married Pauline E. Lemasters on May 4, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She survives.
Mr. Kirkland and his wife, were farmers and ranchers around Akron and Eckley, Colo. before their retirement in 1975. He recently moved to Colorado Springs with his wife, to be near family. Mr. Kirkland was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School Class in Sulphur Springs.
He attended schools and graduated from Dill City High School in 1943.
Other survivors include two sons, Ronald L Kirkland of Riverton, Wy. and Donald D. Kirkland of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, A'Donna K. Mortimer of Carthage, Mo.; one sister, Ann Francis of Enid, Okla.; six grandchildren, Tiffany L. Forbis of Phoenix, Ariz., Jamey L. Kirkland of Riverton, Wyo., Angela D. Vandecar and John C. Kirkland, both of Mesa, Ariz., Shannon K. O'Connell of Chesapeake, Va. and Shane L. Nichols of Pueblo, Colo.

Coy L. Vicars
Funeral services for Coy Leonard Vicars, 92, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, in First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Ed Dodd and Gifford Long officiating.
Interment with military honors by Hopkins County Veterans Coalition will be in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Jimmy D. Thompson, Bill Gregg, Rick Blackwell, Paul Herschler, William David Reynolds and Buford Beeson serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, atWest Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Vicars died at his residence at 4:58 a.m. Sunday, June 29, following an extended illness.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1910, in Leonard, to George Marshall and Bertie Mae Miller Vicars. He married Addie Doris Click in 1937 in Sulphur Springs. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Vicars was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense as a pattern maker for the United States Army and the United States Navy for more than 40 years. He was employed in Corpus Christi and Jacksonville, Fla. He retired in 1969 and moved to Sulphur Springs, where he was a cattle rancher.
Mr. Vicars was a longtime volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 642 in Tira. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8560.
He was a lifetime Methodist, a very active member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Bishop Ward Sunday School Class.
He served in the United States Navy Seabees, during World War II. He was on the first aircraft carrier, the USS Langley, and fought in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Vicars was a graduate of El Jardin High School and attended two years of college.
Survivors include one son, Coy Oliver Vicars of Sulphur Springs; one brother, M.M. Vicars of Brownsville; one sister, Bonnie George of Corpus Christi; two grandchildren, Joe Vicars of Corpus Christi and Jackie Vicars of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Roberta Wright
Funeral services for Roberta Wright, 74, of Sulphur Springs will be held at Morning Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. G.W. Pryor and Harold B. Nash Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Mark Johnson, Ronald Gardener, Lewis Harrison, Mike Goodson and Lester Henley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Wright's grandsons and nephews.
No formal visitation is scheduled. The family will receive friends at 425 E. Ross Street.
Mrs. Wright died at 7:27 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at her residence.
She was born on June 26, 1929, in Hopkins County to Orange and Ada Young Wright.
Mrs. Wright was a lifelong resident of Hopkins County. She was a member of Morning Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Saints.
Survivors include one son, Patrick Orange Hall of Sulphur Springs; four daughters, Bobbie Gordon, Ronnie Bell, Paulette Wright and Pamela Wright, all of Sulphur Springs; two brothers, Joe L. Wright and Billy Ray Wright, both of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Maudell Jones and Iola Lindley, both of Sulphur Springs and Inola Mouzon of Huntsville, Ala.; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her parents; an infant child; four brothers, Murray, Perkins, Cleveland and Weldon Wright; two sisters, Betty Jean Wright and Vernell Pryor; and one grandchild, Jerry Walker Jr.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mark Willey
Funeral services for Mark Willey, 39, of Margate, Fla. were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, at First Baptist Church in Pittsburg with the Revs. Steve Packer, Kyle Smith and Wayne Nix officiating.
Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg with Jason Willey, Reb Barrett, Bart Townsend, Marty Cook, Larry Bailey and Jeff Sanderson serving as pallbearers under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg.
Mr. Willey died Tuesday, June 7, in Deerfield Beach, Fla., in a plane accident, which also killed his wife and daughter.
He was born on July 7, 1963, in Titus County. He married Susan Roberson. She died in the same plane accident.
Mr. Willey was a certified pilot. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He had previously lived in Mount Vernon and Pittsburg.
Survivors include his parents, John Jr. and Norenia Willey and Pauline and Robert Ehrlish, all of Pittsburg; one brother, James Willey of Prescott, Ariz.; one step-brother, Roger Ehrlish of Houston; two sisters, Loretta Henderson of Pittsburg and Stephanie Carroll of Jefferson; one step-sister, Linda Dewitt of Dallas.
Susan Roberson Willey
Funeral services for Susan Roberson Willey, 43, of Margate, Fla., were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, at First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, with the Revs. Steve Packer, Kyle Smith and Wayne Nix officiating.
Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg, with Jason Willey, Reb Barrett, Bart Townsend, Marty Cook, Larry Bailey and Jeff Sanderson serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Willey died on Tuesday, June 17, in Deerfield Beach, Fla., in a plane accident, which also killed her husband and her step-daughter.
She was born on March 23, 1960, in Aurora, Colo.
Mrs. Willey was a medical assistant. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her father, Charles Roberson of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Brian Bern and Kevin Bern, both of Plano; two brothers, Jerry Eastwood of Plano and John Eastwood of Dallas; two sisters, Debora Brown of Muskogee, Okla. and Christine Fuqua of Dallas.
Mrs. Willey was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Dunn Eastwood.

Shelbi Lynn Willey
Funeral services for Shelbi Lynn Willey, 12, of Pittsburg, was held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, at First Baptist Church in Pittsburg with the Revs. Steve Packer, Kyle Smith and Wayne Nix officiating.
Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg with David Shelton, Larry Patton, Ryan Patton, Jacob Shelton, Matt Rivera and Gabe Henson serving as pallbearers.
Miss Willey died on Tuesday, June 17, in Deerfield Beach, Fla., in a plane accident, which also killed her father and stepmother.
She was born on March 23, 1991, in Titus County.
Miss Willey was a member of East New Hope Baptist Church. She was a member of Cheernastics. She was an avid rider of four wheelers and horses.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Melissa and Johnnie Rivera of Pittsburg; her grandparents, George and Doloria Bradshaw, John Jr. and Norenia Willey of Pittsburg and Pauline and Robert Ehrlish, all of Pittsburg.

Mildred Reese
A memorial service for Mildred Reese, 78, of Rowlett, formerly of Hopkins County, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Hall officiating.
A private Interment followed at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery.
Mildred Reese died Monday, Feb. 2, at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett.
She was born on June 28, 1925, in Saltillo.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Reese and Gary Reese, both of Arcadia, La.; one daughter, Cathy J. Reese of Garland; two brothers, Weldon Glenn Swinford of Houston and Dale Clyde Swinford of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one grandchild, Daniel Glenn Hogg.
Mildred Reese was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Ruth Reese; and one sister, Willie Ruth Bowen.
