Charles Nelson Gilreath
Funeral services for Charles Nelson Gilreath, 72, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gifford Long, Julie Halstead and Gaither Day officiating.
Burial followed in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with David Rholes, Warren Chancellor, William P, Brashear, Joe A. Williamson, Mike Taylor, Johnny Gillis, Thomas E. Jones, John L. Jones, Robert Sherwin Alexander, Alec Bridges III, Dr. Mark Miller, Stephen L. Bonner, David Perry and Coy Johnson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Arthur Tinjerina, Paul Ray Hunt, The Birthday Club, Messenger Sunday School Class, Rotary Club members and the Rev. Harold B. Nash Sr.
Mr. Gilreath died Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
He was born in Clarksville on Dec. 15, 1931, the son of Nelson and Louise Lamb Gilreath. He married Judy M. Moriniere in Austin, on April 2, 1958. She survives.
Mr. Gilreath was a registered pharmacist and owner-operator of Nelson's Corner Drug. Mr. Gilreath started his career on Feb. 4, 1960, along with his father. He was salutatorian of the Sulphur Springs High School Class of 1949 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 through 1956, and while in the service played in the 1954 British Amateur. After returning home, he attended The University of Texas from 1956 to 1960.
He held several civic offices, including being a 25-year member of the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board and chairman of the board, Rotary Club member and past president, was a Paul Harris Fellowship recipient, 1996 Citizen of the Year, member of the Sulphur Springs Country Club and Club Champion in 1962, 1973 and 1977. He was also a member of the Kappa Sigma International Fraternity, the Northeast Texas Pharmaceutical Association, the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church, and was a former chairman of the United Way Fund.
Other survivors include his sons, Michael Brooke Gilreath and John Lindsay Gilreath, both of Sulphur Springs; and grandsons Jackson B. Gilreath and Steven Charles Gilreath, both of Sulphur Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Steven Nelson Gilreath, on Jan. 20, 1988.

Cheryl Ann Anderson
Graveside services for Cheryl Ann Anderson, 28, of Brashear, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Deaton Cemetery with Andy Wright officiating.
Ms. Anderson died at 12:03 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Dallas, on May 16, 1975, the daughter of Thomas Edward and Shirley Mae Corey Anderson.
Ms. Anderson was of the Baptist faith. She owned rental property.
Survivors include her father, Thomas E. Anderson, Sr.; her mother, Shirley Shackelford of Brashear; two brothers, Rowdy J. Anderson of Sulphur Springs and Thomas E. Anderson, Jr. of Minnesota; and one sister, Jody Lynn Vonrentzell of Nebraska.
Ms. Anderson was preceded in death by her step-father, Thurman John Shackelford on May 13, 2000.
Della Carpenter
Funeral services for Della Carpenter, 80, of Plano, were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Williams Memorial Chapel in Garland, with the Rev. W.R. Pryor officiating.
Burial was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in Como Cemetery.
Mrs. Carpenter died Tuesday, Feb. 3.
She was born on June 2, 1923, in Plano. She married James Walter Gilbert. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Vicki Dietz of Plano, Linda Pels of Muenster, Peggy Goldman of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Sheila Burbine of Fort Myers, Fla.; and two sisters, Ella Mae Thurman of Big Spring, and Juanita Butler of Caddo Mills.
Mrs. Carpenter was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Betty Harris; and one granddaughter, Tammy Burbine.
Kenneth Ross
Military graveside services for Kenneth Ross, 72, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Old Tarrant Cemetery with Chris Shelby officiating under the direction of Hopkins County Military Coalition.
Visitation were held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mr. Ross died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 10, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Sulphur Springs, to Eura and Myrtis Turner Ross. He married Marie Keller. She preceded him in death in 1993.
Mr. Ross was a retired mechanic. He was a member of League Street Church of Christ, and the National Rifle Association and Texas State Rifle Association. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War.
Survivors include one son, Tim Ross of Royse City; five grandchildren, Shanna Ross, Amanda Ross, Emily Ross, Jacob Miller and Noah Ross; and one great-grandchild, Thomas Gallegos.
Mr. Ross was also preceded in death by one grandson.
Albert Lewis Nichols
Funeral services for Albert Lewis Nichols, 56, of Conroe, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, in the Chapel at Conroe Funeral Directors in Conroe, with the Rev. Bobby Wayne Spinks officiating.
Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Montgomery.
Mr. Nichols died Monday, March 8, in Conroe.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1948, in Conroe.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Nichols of Conroe; one son, Mark Wayne Nichols of Magnolia Bend; one daughter, Susan Elaine Roddey of Willis; two brothers, Roy Nichols of Tennessee and Mark Lynn Nichols of Alabama; one sister, Claire Sue "Sissy" Groves and her husband, James of Sulphur Springs.
Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Nichols and Mary B. Smith Nichols Soloman.
Bobby D. Coleman
Funeral arrangements for Bobby D. Coleman, 59, formerly of Sulphur Springs, are pending with Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mr. Coleman died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, in Mesa, Ariz.
Jessy Darwin "Dee" Chapman
Funeral services for Jessy Darwin "Dee" Chapman, 71, of Palestine, formerly of Hopkins County, will be held Monday, March 22, in Bailey & Foster Chapel in Palestine, with the Rev. Stanley Davis and Dan Manuel officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 22, at Mount Sterling Cemetery in Hopkins County, under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mr. Chapman died Friday morning, March 19, following a long battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1933, in Hopkins County, to Floyd Enoch and Viola Chapman. He married Mary Ann Carpenter. She survives.
Mr. Chapman attended school in Sulphur Bluff, and at East Texas State College. He was a member of Fair Park Baptist Church in Tyler.
Before serving in the Korean Conflict, he played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinal farm team in Lamesa. He continued playing baseball for many years in and around Tyler and the Palestine area.
Mr. Chapman moved to Palestine, in 1968, and was the owner of several businesses fore his retirement in 2001. He was an avid golf player, supporter of youth sports and joke-telling enthusiast.
Other survivors include one son, Michael Chapman of Doddridge, Ark.; one daughter, Deanna Chapman of Palestine; two brothers, J.B. Chapman of Dallas and Lewis Chapman of Mesquite; and three grandchildren, Chance Chapman, Rile Fincher and Maggie Fincher.
Memorials may be made to Palestine YMCA or a favorite youth organization.
Paul Lahn
Funeral services for Paul Lahn, 68, of Ashdown, Ark., a native of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, at Madden Funeral Home Chapel in Ashdown, Ark., with Brother Tommy Guthrie officiating.
Interment will follow in Hick's Cemetery in Ashdown, Ark.
Mr. Lahn died Friday, March 19, in Texarkana.
He was born on May 15, 1935, in Sulphur Springs.
Mr. Lahn was affiliated with Central Baptist Church in Ashdown, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Ruth Lahn of Ashdown.
Walter Willis Grimes
Funeral services for Walter Willis Grimes, 84, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at West Oaks Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Rawlingson officiating.
Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park with his nephews serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at the funeral home.
Mr. Grimes died at his residence on Friday, March 19.
He was born in Reilly Springs, on April 30, 1919, the son of Hubert and Pearl Caldwell Grimes. He married Annie Ruth Attaway on Jan. 13, 1940, in the Black Oak community. She survives.
Mr. Grimes was a dairy farmer and cattleman. He served with the U.S. Maritime Services during World War II. He was a member of the Martin Springs Baptist Church.
Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and V. Annis Grimes of Sulphur Springs; his daughter and son-in-law, Elfleta and James Wilburn of Sulphur Springs; two brothers, R.C. Grimes of Pearland and Bill Grimes of Pickton; one sister, Della Faye Goode of Pickton; four grandchildren, Jamie Swasso of Mesquite, John Wilburn of Sulphur Springs, David Grimes of Irving and Amy Coleman of Sulphur Springs; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Jeanna Wilburn on Sept. 24, 2003; and one brother, J.C. Turner.
Arturo Murillo
Funeral services for Arturo Murillo, 17, of Como, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, at St. James Catholic Church with the Revs. Joe Kannampuzha and Andres Salina-Torres, and Deacon Jose Hernandez officiating.
Burial will be in Como Cemetery with Juan Correa serving as pallbearer.
Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at West Oaks Funeral Home and visitation will follow from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Mr. Murillo died March 16, from an automobile accident.
He was born Nov. 16, 1986, in San Miguel Allende GTO., to Francisco Murillo and Apolonia Murillo of Como.
He was a student of Como Pickton High School.
Mr. Murillo worked at TaMolley's restaurant.
Survivors include his parents, Francisco and Apolonia Murrilo of Como; grandmother, Dolores Navarro of San Miguel Allende, GTO; two brothers, Antonio Murillo of Sulphur Springs and Francisco Murillo, Jr. of Como; three sisters, Mariela and Claudia Murillo, both of Sulphur Springs and Maria Janet Murillo of Como.
