Jose Chavira
A memorial service for Jose Chavira, 82, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at League Street Church of Christ in Sulphur Springs, with Luis Camacho Jr. officiating.
Mr. Chavira died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Carriage House Manor.
He was born on March 30, 1921, in El Paso, to Jose and Rosario Montes Chavira.
He married Elvia del Castillo on March 17, 1946, in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Chivira was a retired agriculture consultant in Mexico.
Survivors include one son, Rogelio Chavira of El Paso, one daughter, Elvia C. Camacho of Sulphur Springs; five grandchildren, Luis Camacho of Denver, Colo., Gaby Hill of Sulphur Springs, Mayra Cummings of Pickton, Alan Chavira of El Paso, Melissa Chavira of Las Cruces, N.M.; and four great-grandchildren, Cassi Hill, Christian Hill, Parker Cummings and Presli Cummings.
Mr. Chavira was also preceded in death by one son, Jose Chavira, and one granddaughter, Erica Chavira.

Ruby Middleton
Graveside funeral services for Ruby Middleton, 95, of Brashear, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 in Clifton Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Darty officiating.
Interment will be in Clifton Cemetery with Mrs. Middleton's grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Middleton died at 5:36 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1909, in Point, to Robert Farmer and Annie Mae McKinney Spencer.
She married Julian Leo Middleton on Jan. 11, 1934, in Rains County. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1966.
Mrs. Middleton was a homemaker. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Miller Grove.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby W. Middleton of Point and J. L. Middleton Jr. of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Doris Hall of Miller Grove and Nora Younger of Saltillo; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Middleton was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jackie Middleton on June 18, 2001, and Cleatus Ray Middleton; one daughter, Floy Virginia Pritchett; two brothers, Curtis and Cecil Spencer; and four sisters, Opal Sims, Bessie Hatley, Leona Briggs and Juanita May.
Vida Finney Alsobrooks
Funeral services for Vida Finney Alsobrooks, 93, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at Morning Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold B. Nash Sr. officiating.
Burial followed at Mel Haven Cemetery with Dennis Nash, Clifton Nash, Aubrey Nash, Clarence Nash, Thurman Nash and the Rev. Rufus Nash serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons and Deaconess of Morning Chapel Baptist Church, Tapp Funeral Home staff and the late William "Billy" G. Murray (posthumously).
Mrs. Alsobrooks died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at her residence.
She was born on May 12, 1910, in Sulphur Springs, to Robert Bob and Julie Putts Finney. She married Fred Lincoln Alsobrooks on Jan. 5, 1934, in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1975.
Mrs. Alsobrooks was retired and the former owner and operator of Alsobrooks Funeral Home and Ambulance Service for 38 years. She was a former employee of Tapp Funeral Home. She attended Douglas public school. She was a member of Morning Chapel Baptist Church and was a member of the Deaconess, Beauty Chapter No. 32 Order of Eastern Star, Blue Bonnet Club, D.A.V. Auxiliary Post 160 and American Legion Post 642. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross, Agricultural Extension Service and helped in the organization of the Meal-A-Day Center.
Survivors include two sons, David Lincoln Alsobrooks of Kerrville and Lonzra Arnold Alsobrooks of Sulphur Springs; one daughter, Freddie Ernestine Alsobrooks of Sulphur Springs; eight grandchildren, Lonzra Arnold Alsobrooks II, Derick Barron, Nicole, Janelle and Joseph Davis II of Dallas, Ericalove Pearson of California and Telia Renols of Sulphur Springs; one great-grandchild, Dexis Pearson of California.
Mrs. Alsobrooks was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Harold Eugene Alsobrooks; five brothers, Elmer, Ben, James, Ennis and Johnny Frank Finney; and four sisters, Willie Jackson, Elizabeth Whitmore, Lois Whitehurst and Elaine Malone.
Memorials may be made to the Vista Care Hospice.
Lorene Davis
Graveside funeral services for Lorene Davis, 89, of Dike were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at Bennett Cemetery with the Rev. Julie Halstead officiating.
Burial was in Bennett Cemetery with Billy Gregg, Grady Tubb, Junior Neal, Ed Holt, Marvin Chester, G.R. Romans and Darrel Tubb serving as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Davis died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Davis was born Feb. 10, 1915, to Lee and Mae Armstrong Bennett.
She married Earnest B. Davis on May 24, 1934, in Sulphur Bluff. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1978.
Mrs. Davis was a longtime schoolteacher for Flora and the Dike community. She attended East Texas State University. She was a member of Dike Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Patsy Pettit of Mount Vernon, Patricia Eagle of Sulphur Springs and Diana Collins of Dike; six grandchildren, Ernie Pettit, Rhonda Neal, Tanya Eagle, Trina Osburne, Chad and Chuck Collins; six great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Alton Bennett and J.D. Bennett; and one sister, Jewel Massey.

Alfred McCord
Funeral services for Alfred McCord, 93, of Sulphur Springs were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Curtis French officiating.
Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Michael Grantham, Joseph McCord, Brad McCord, Jay Eppars, Mike Hawkins and Larry Vititow serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Sims, Dickie Wilkinson, Jimmy Lewis, Mike Clark, Loyd McCord and Billy McCord.
Mr. McCord died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Carriage House Manor.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1910, in Weaver, to J.B. and Cora Lee Wilson McCord. He married Opal Springer on Jan. 30, 1935, in Hopkins County. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Mr. McCord was a painter. He was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Ann Grantham of Mesquite; one son, Ronald Alfred McCord of Sulphur Springs; three grandsons, Michael Lynn Grantham of Greenville, Joseph Grant McCord of Sulphur Springs, David Bradley McCord of Pickton; two granddaughters, Leslie Carol Eppars and Reggie Hawkins, both of Sulphur Springs; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mr. McCord was also preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.
John 'J.E.' Wright
Funeral services for John "J.E." Wright, 77, of Mesquite were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnathan Back officiating.
Interment followed at Greenview Cemetery with Wilber Smith, Clyde Smith, Elton O'Neal, Larry Argenbright, Odis Walls and Leslie Deal serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Wright died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Ashford Hall Nursing Center in Irving.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1926, in Sulphur Springs, to John G. and Julia Oldham Wright. He married Louise Potts on Jan. 30, 1954, in Rockwall. She survives.
Mr. Wright was a truck driver. He was a member of Mesquite Church of God.
Other survivors include one grandson, Brandon Walls of Brighten, Mass.; one granddaughter, Marisa Walls of Mesquite; and one great-granddaughter, Julia Walls of Brighten, Mass.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Lynn Walls; four brothers; and three sisters.
Roy Henry Calvert Sr.
Funeral services for Roy Henry Calvert Sr., 76, of Campbell, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Campbell with Brother Lee Huff and Kenneth Linden officiating.
Interment followed at Brigham Cemetery with Jimmy Cross, Gary Patterson, Calvin Patterson, Roy Washburn, Josh Washburn and Don Zachery serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Troy Scall.
Mr. Calvert died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at Green Crest Manor Nursing Home in Greenville.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1927, in Lewisville, to Collie and Virgie B. Walker Calvert. He married Linnie Christine Patterson on July 28, 1950, in Denton. She survives.
Mr. Calvert was a self-employed farmer and commercial hay baler. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Campbell. He served in the U.S. Army.
Other survivors include his mother, Virgie B. Calvert of Campbell; three sons, Roy Henry Calvert Jr. of Campbell, Johnnie Collie Calvert of Grand Prairie and Ronald Keith Calvert of Floyd; four daughters, Brenda Kay Ariola of Lewisville, Jessie Mae Flores of Carrollton, Sarah Christine Calvert of Campbell, Timotha Jayne Hickman of Grand Prairie; grandchildren, Quentin Lynn Ariola, Andrea Elizabeth Ariola, both of Little Elm, Crystal Marie Palmer, Shanna Renee Flores, both of Temple, Nina Christine Hickman, Kassidy Tyler Hickman, Tristan Chase Hickman, Nathan Lynn Hickman, Camden Cole Hickman, all of Grand Prairie, Coy Henry Calvert of Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Cole Wayne Ariola, Gwendurland Palmer and Jocelyn Delanie.
Flossie Mae Grubbs
Funeral services for Flossie Mae Grubbs, 94, of Sulphur Springs were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cletus Speed officiating.
A committal service was held at the funeral home after the service.
Mrs. Grubbs died at 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at Woodhaven Nursing Home.
She was born in Florence, Ala., on Nov. 16, 1909, to William Henry and Carrie Elizabeth Qualls Wesson. She married Elmer Grubbs on July 26, 1928, in Yantis. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Mrs. Grubbs was retired from the food service industry, having worked at East Field College and Luby's Cafeteria. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Ralphie Harrod of Yantis, Peggy Gamblin of DeSoto and Shirley Orr of Winnsboro; three sons, Nolan Grubbs of Sulphur Springs, Kenneth Grubbs of Quitman and Elmer Grubbs Jr. of Lakin, Kan.; two brothers, Bob Wesson and Buford Wesson, both of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Ella Dyce of El Dorado, and Lois Dyce and Tomasyne Nowlin, both of Sulphur Springs; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Grubbs was also preceded in death by five sisters, four brothers, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
