Alfred McCord
Funeral services for Alfred McCord, 93, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Curtis French and Brother Tommy Hall officiating. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Michael Grantham, Joseph McCord, Brad McCord, Jay Eppars, Mike Hawkins and Larry Vititow serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Sims, Dickie Wilkinson, Jimmy Lewis, Mike Clark, Loyd McCord and Billy McCord.
Mr. McCord died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Carriage House Manor.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1910, in Weaver, to J.B. and Cora Lee Wilson McCord.
He married Opal Springer on Jan. 30, 1935, in Hopkins County. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Mr. McCord was a painter. He was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Ann Grantham of Mesquite; one son, Ronald Alfred McCord of Sulphur Springs; three grandsons, Michael Lynn Grantham of Greenville, Joseph Grant McCord of Sulphur Springs, David Bradley McCord of Pickton; two granddaughters, Leslie Carol Eppars and Reggie Hawkins, both of Sulphur Springs; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mr. McCord was also preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.
Daisy May Sheerin
Daisy May Sheerin passed away Sunday morning, at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Sulphur Springs.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Delta Funeral Home Chapel in Cooper. Interment followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery.
Ms. Sheerin was born November 23, 1917, in Delta County. She was the daughter of Henry and Aurelia (Irby) Bangs. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by: a sister, Gladys Gibbs of Cooper; a half-sister, Rebecca; nieces and nephews, Larry & Sarah Gibbs of Sulphur Springs, Linda Patrick of Sulphur Springs, Lendy Gibbs of Angleton, Carol Gibbs of Grand Prairie, Joyce Speck of Kauntz; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
Velma Vaughan
A graveside service for Velma Vaughan, 82, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Cumby with the Rev. Charles Ethridge officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vaughan died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004 at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Jan. 13, 1922, in Hopkins County, to Jeff and Pearl Millsap Moore.
She married Odis Henderson Vaughan on July 25, 1942, in Brashear. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Vaughan was a homemaker and a member of Brashear Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Vaughan of Brashear and Rickey Vaughan of Cumby; one sister, Helen Bays of Sulphur Springs; five grandchildren, Amy Wallace, Kristi George, Rickey James Vaughan, Rusty Ray Vaughan and Ryan Lee Vaughan; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Vaughan was also preceded in death by one sister, Opal Peek, and one brother, R.D. Moore.
Freda Irene Cline
Funeral services for Freda Irene Cline, 26, of Big Sandy, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Vernon with Jeff Cline officiating.
Interment followed in Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
She was born on Aug, 1, 1977, in Sulphur Springs, to Richard Cline and Jill Irene Grady Cline.
Survivors include her daughter, Kierra Ann Morris of Big Sandy; her parents, Richard and Jill Cline of Purley; her siblings, James Cline of Winnsboro, Donald Cline of Mount Pleasant, Jeff Cline of Midland, Va., Crissy Hammonds of Sulphur Springs and Reba Evans of Big Sandy; and her maternal grandparents, John and Reba Grady of Wichita, Kan.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ashley Irene Morris in August of 1995, and by her paternal grandparents, Jessie and Lorena Cline.
Troy Lovern Boyd
Graveside funeral services for Troy Lovern Boyd, 92, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Chapin Ross officiating.
Mr. Boyd died at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1911, in Hopkins County, to Lane Stanley and Ava Lee Ross Boyd.
He married Sylvia Thompson on June 9, 1938. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2000.
Mr. Boyd was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Wood Carvers Association and Lum and Abner Society. He was also member of League Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Bill Boyd of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Jenny Arthur and Connie Harris, both of Sulphur Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Boyd was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Richard Boyd.
Memorials may be made to League Street Church of Christ.
Marcos Gutierrez Mejia
Funeral services for Marcos Gutierrez Mejia, 23, of Sulphur Springs, were held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 in San Juan Del Yanos, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Rosary were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at West Oaks Funeral Home with the Revs. Joe Kannamphuzha and Andres Salinas-Torres officiating.
Mr. Mejia died at 9:07 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 in a single vehicle accident.
He was born on April 20, 1980, in San Felipe, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Feliciano and Leonarda Gutierrez Mejia.
He worked as a construction laborer. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents; one brother, Mario Mejia of Cumby and three brothers in Mexico; and six sisters also survive in Mexico.
Vivian Russell
Funeral services for Vivian Russell, age 82, of Miller Grove, Texas, were held at 2:00 PM Thursday; February 26, 2004 in West Oaks Funeral Chapel with Reverend Troy Martin and Wayne Darty officiating. Interment will be in Miller Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg Caldwell, Woody Garmon, Larry Peek, Stevie Tipps, Johnny Wilbur, and Lewis Watts. Honorary pallbearers were Carolyn Burns and Cindy Caldwell.
Mrs. Russell died at her home in Miller Grove Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
She was born in the Elm Community, on January 16, 1922, the daughter of Laura May and Robert F. Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Russell was a housewife. She was a member of the County Line Baptist Church.
She married W.S. Russell, Jr. on September 8, 1948, in Hopkins County, and he preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by three daughters: Dianne Russell Hart of Cumby, Laura Kay Peek of Sulphur Springs and Cheri Pickett and her husband, Delbert, of Sulphur Springs. One Son: Lewis Russell and his wife, Connie, of Miller Grove. Two sisters: Doris Freeman of Rio Vista and Marie Allen of Mt. Vernon. Eight grandchildren: Kim Hart, Dana Hart, Tara and Dusty Spencer, Mary and Josh Ridings, Jennifer Peek, Colby Peek, Chelsea Pickett and Aaron Pickett. Two great-grandchildren: D. J. Spencer and Taylor Spencer.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, one son, Ronnie Earl Russell, and a son-in-law, Paul D. Hart.
Mildred Reese
A memorial service for Mildred Reese, 78, of Rowlett, formerly of Hopkins County, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Hall officiating.
A private Interment followed at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery.
Mildred Reese died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett.
She was born on June 28, 1925, in Saltillo.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Reese and Gary Reese, both of Arcadia, La.; one daughter, Cathy J. Reese of Garland; two brothers, Weldon Glenn Swinford of Houston and Dale Clyde Swinford of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one grandchild, Daniel Glenn Hogg.
Mildred Reese was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Ruth Reese; and one sister, Willie Ruth Bowen.
Charles Nelson Gilreath
Funeral services for Charles Nelson Gilreath, 72, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gifford Long, Julie Halstead and Gaither Day officiating.
Burial followed in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with David Rholes, Warren Chancellor, William P, Brashear, Joe A. Williamson, Mike Taylor, Johnny Gillis, Thomas E. Jones, John L. Jones, Robert Sherwin Alexander, Alec Bridges III, Dr. Mark Miller, Stephen L. Bonner, David Perry and Coy Johnson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Arthur Tinjerina, Paul Ray Hunt, The Birthday Club, Messenger Sunday School Class, Rotary Club members and the Rev. Harold B. Nash, Sr.
Mr. Gilreath died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
He was born in Clarksville on Dec. 15, 1931, the son of Nelson and Louise Lamb Gilreath.
He married Judy M. Moriniere in Austin, on April 2, 1958. She survives.
Mr. Gilreath was a registered pharmacist and owner-operator of Nelson's Corner Drug. Mr. Gilreath started his career on Feb. 4, 1960, along with his father. He was salutatorian of the Sulphur Springs High School Class of 1949 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 through 1956, and while in the service played in the 1954 British Amateur. After returning home, he attended The University of Texas from 1956 to 1960.
He held several civic offices, including being a 25-year member of the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board and chairman of the board, Rotary Club member and past president, was a Paul Harris Fellowship recipient, 1996 Citizen of the Year, member of the Sulphur Springs Country Club and Club Champion in 1962, 1973 and 1977. He was also a member of the Kappa Sigma International Fraternity, the Northeast Texas Pharmaceutical Association, the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church, and was a former chairman of the United Way Fund.
Other survivors include his sons, Michael Brooke Gilreath and John Lindsay Gilreath, both of Sulphur Springs; and grandsons, Jackson B. Gilreath and Steven Charles Gilreath, both of Sulphur Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Steven Nelson Gilreath, on Jan. 20, 1988.

Cheryl Ann Anderson
Graveside services for Cheryl Ann Anderson, 28, of Brashear were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at the Deaton Cemetery with Andy Wright officiating.
Ms. Anderson died at 12:03 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Dallas on May 16, 1975, the daughter of Thomas Edward and Shirley Mae Corey Anderson.
Ms. Anderson was of the Baptist faith. She owned rental property.
Survivors include her father, Thomas E. Anderson Sr.; her mother, Shirley Shackelford of Brashear; two brothers, Rowdy J. Anderson of Sulphur Springs, and Thomas E. Anderson Jr. of Minnesota; and one sister, Jody Lynn Vonrentzell of Nebraska.
Ms. Anderson was preceded in death by her step-father, Thurman John Shackelford on May 13, 2000.
