Alma Ailes
Mrs. Alma Madine Stephens Ailes of Sulphur Springs, passed away Friday evening (November 19th, 2004) at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the East Delta Baptist Church.
Rev. Dverle Archer and Rev. Don Shaw will officiate with interment following in the East Delta Cemetery under the direction of Delta Funeral Home, Cooper.
Mrs. Stephens was born July 1, 1934, in Kensing, Texas. She married Mr. Billy Joe Ailes May 26, 1951, in Texarkana, Ark.
She was a lifelong resident of Sulphur Springs, after moving there in 1956. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, cooking, sewing and taking care of her family. Her jobs included Cannon Craft Shutter Co.; Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, where she was a Ward Secretary; and Carriage House Manor Nursing Home, where she was a supply clerk. She and her husband attended Birthright Methodist Church.
She is survived by Bill Ailes, her loving husband and lifelong friend. Their families lived near each other and they met when she was about threes old. They walked to school together, played together, grew up together and fell in love with each other at a very early age, a love that remained true and strong throughout their lives together. Throughout this lengthy illness, he never left her side, taking care of her twenty-four hours a day.
She is survived by one son, Billy Don Ailes and his wife, Sharon, of Birthright, and one daughter, Debbie Allison of Sulphur Springs. Other survivors include three granddaughters, Kimberley Grimes Kelley of Sulphur Springs; Amye Allison Shaw and husband, Kevin, of Nacogdoches; and Jill Allison Nichols and husband, Cory, of Rockwall.
She was survived by her 3 most treasured possessions: her great-grandchildren, Ryan Mark Johnston of Rockwall, and Camdyn Nichole and Cadye Michelle Shaw of Nacogdoches. Other survivors include 6 sisters and brothers-in-law: Pearl Stephens Smith and husband, Buddie, of Lake Creek; Clara Lee Stephens Kelley of Grand Prairie; Margie Stephens Spears of Terrell; Bearl Stephens Sneed and husband, Loyd (Sonny), of Grand Prairie; Stella Stephens Tucker and husband, Eugene, of Plano; and Comelia Stephens Boss and husband, Allen, of Granbury.
She was survived by 2 sisters-in-law: Ruby Ailes and Lucille Daugherty of Paris, TX.
Also survived by 5 nieces, 8 nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and many, many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by:
Her parents "F" and Mary Alice Stephens; mother and father-in-law, Bessie and Buss Ailes; brother, Albery Henry Stephens; son-in-law, David Allison; 2 nephews, Donald Lee Spears and William Henry Myers.

Graveside funeral services for Velma Patrick Pate, 92, of Como, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with the Rev. James Diamond officiating.
Roy Darby, Henry Stone, David Groves, Jerry Mac Petty, Reese Caddell and Dennis Wigghoff will serve as pallbearers.
Dr. Mark Miller, Dr. Charles Jones, Janice Mitchell, Jan Bevins, Rynn Rhodes and the Cedar Crest Christian Church congregation were honorary pallbearers.

Bill Weir
A memorial service for Billy Herman Weir, 76, a native of Hopkins County, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs.
Mr. Weir died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.
He was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Birthright. He was raised in Weirville, and Sulphur Springs.
He attended North Hopkins School, where he was later a teacher, and finished his high school education at Paschal High School in Fort Worth. He obtained his bachelor oF arts degree in education at East Texas State University, and his master's degree and doctorate of theology at SMU.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
He returned to Sulphur Springs, before he and his wife, Joan, moved to Dallas, where he worked in the Conference Office of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Weir was the first youth minister to serve at First UMC in Sulphur Springs.
He served as Minister of Education in several churches, including Allen, Caddo Mills and Lake Highlands UMC in Dallas; then in Houston at Westbury, Memorial Drive and St. Paul's United Methodist Churches.
The family moved in 1976 to Midland, where he served at First UMC (George W. and Laura Bush's church), for 15 years.
He then returned to Sulphur Springs First UMC where he came full circle and finished his service at the same church where his ministry had begun.
He retired in 1996 and settled in Tira to be near his family.
Bill and Joan Weir were teachers and Christian educators.
He spent his life serving others.
He was an innovator.
He developed the Leadership Training Course for the UMC and the Human Sexuality Course for junior and senior high schools, and his curriculum is still used today.
He also developed the program, Body Recall, for the elderly.
He was instrumental in developing the Walk To Emmaus program in Texas.
Mr. Weir was also an author; he wrote a book for the United Methodist church.
He was a counselor; he worked with children, youth, adults, and the elderly.
Bill and Joan were also foster parents for 2 young men while in Houston.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William Andrew "Andy" and Jennifer Weir; grandson and granddaughter, Logan Andrew Weir and Lois Elizabeth "Ellie" Weir of Rowlett; one daughter, Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Weir of Dallas; one sister, Hazel Weir Johnson of Tira; a sister and brother-in-law, Lou Weir Reaves and Leroy Reaves of Cooper; brother and sister-in-law, James Harold and Mary Weir of Arlington; one sister and brother-in-law, James and Molly Moore of Sulphur Springs; a sister-in-law, Kay Mitchell of Arlington; and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Martin Weir and Addie Mae Herman Weir; his loving wife, Joan Mitchell Weir; and grandson, Bradley Mitchell Weir.
The family requests that donations be given to the Methodist Mission Home, where Bill and Joan adopted Cindy and Andy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Jan Speed, age 62, of Peerless, were held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the West Oaks Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Nesbitt and Rev. Larry Jordan officiating.
Burial followed in the Peerless Cemetery with Elbert Pete Virgil, Terry Wayne Virgel, Glenn Hahn, Paul Pogue, Mike Sellers, and Tommy Sanderson serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Coye Golightly (In Memory Of Him), Russell Skeen, and Jerry C. Ferrell.
