Julian Balero Colunga
Memorial services for Julian Balero Colunga, 62, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at La Primera Iglesia.
Mr. Colunga died Friday, July 1, 2006 at his residence.
Julian Balero Colunga was born June 19, 1944, in Denver, Colo., the son of Sabino and Nasaria Balero Colunga.
He married Sondra Witt on Aug. 20, 2004, in Hope, Ark. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Juliana Ruiz and Laura Holguin, both of Fort Worth, Stella Aguilar of Albuquerque, N.M., and Cathy Armendariz of Azle; three sons, Julian Colunga, Jr. of Florida, and Eddie Colunga and Jesse Colunga, both of Fort Worth; and one brother, Bruno Colunga of Kerrville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alfredo Colunga; and one sister, Tomasa Colunga.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Rose Joyce Stinson
Rose Joyce Stinson, age 88, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, died peacefully at 11:45 P.M. Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness.
Starrett-Rose Funeral Home of Paris, will conduct funeral services 2:00 p.m. Friday July 7, 2006 in Spence Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church, Sulphur Springs, with Rev. Bruce Stinson, Rev. Fred W. Lewis and Rev. Don Tinsley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery.
Mrs. Stinson will lie in repose in Spence Memorial Chapel at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m..
Joyce was born Rose Joyce Wilkins in the Riley Grove Community, near Commerce, Texas, on July 14, 1917, the oldest daughter of William David (Dave) and Golda Fannie Hindman Wilkins.
She attended Commerce Public Schools.
She was married to Cecil Grady Stinson on December 23, 1937 at the home of her parents in Commerce, Texas.
She and Cecil moved to Sulphur Springs, in 1938, where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by Cecil on August 5, 1995.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Ann Stinson Adams on June 12, 1996.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and Mamaw.
She was also a devoted homemaker and excellent cook.
She faithfully served in her church, First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, for more than 40 years.
She was active until ill health forced her to no longer attend, but the church remained utmost in her prayers.
She was forced by health to move from her home to Carriage House Manor, where she resided since July 1, 1991.
Survivors include a son, David A. Stinson and wife Joanne of Sulphur Springs; a granddaughter, Debbie Stinson of Sulphur Springs; a grandson, Bruce Stinson and wife Gina of Winnie, Texas; great-grandchildren Savannah Malynne Stinson and Tucker Anderson Stinson, both of Winnie, Texas; a brother, Lloyd J. Wilkins of Commerce; a sister: Marie (Mrs. R.D. (Bub) Kinser of Commerce; a nephew and two nieces.
Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Galyean, Mickey Eddins, Frank Brandon, Rodney Harred, Garry McClung, Johnny Motes, Bill Hodge, and Mike Crowell serving as pallbearers.
Named as honorary pallbearers are Morris Palmer, Brody Koon, Warren Brewer, Charlie Charles, Doyle Starrett, Clyde Browning, Thomas McLemore, Buel Berry, Raymond McClung, Wayman Keen, Dan Watson, Charles Sellers, Dr. Joe Longino, Charlotte Baxter, Arvis Tanton, Staff of Carriage House Manor.
Flowers are welcomed, but should memorials be desired, they may be made to the New Sanctuary Fund of First Baptist Church, 116 Oak Avenue, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482.
Travis Leonard Passmore
Our beloved Leonard Passmore passed away Monday afternoon, July 3, 2006, in Austin, Texas.
He was born on November 14, 1920 in Pickton, Texas, to J.G. and Willie Lou Passmore.
Leonard served in the U.S. Army 124th Cavalry during World War II in the China-Burma Theatre of Operations.
He graduated from the University of Texas with a law degree.
During his career, he was elected County Attorney of Franklin County, served as First Assistant Attorney General of Texas under Will Wilson and was legal counsel for the Texas Banker's Association, from which he retired in 1984.
In February of 1957, he journeyed from Austin back to Franklin County to marry his long-time love, the former Evelyn Birdsong, whom he met while they were both working in the courthouse in Mount Vernon, Texas.
They both moved to Austin, and in September of 1958, welcomed their daughter, Mary Sue.
She was raised in a loving home, which was filled with laughter.
Leonard's wit and dry sense of humor were legendary.
During his career and retirement, he gave countless after-dinner-speeches.
His humor was characterized by a deadpan delivery and an ability to poke fun at others, with himself being his favorite target.
As Leonard was known to remark, "What separates me from other speakers is my availability".
The topics for his talks included, "General Observations About Specific Things, "How To Select A Notary Public" and usually incorporated observations like "Something not worth doing at all is not worth doing well."
Following his retirement, Leonard enjoyed his association with the Downtown Founders Lions Club and the O.T. Baker Sunday School class at Highland Park Baptist Church.
His daily routine included daily lunches at Luby's, car rides with his beloved Westies, searching the farmer's markets for fresh produce, and rooting for the Texas Longhorn football team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John and Paul Passmore, his sisters Lillian Simms and Eunice McGlamery, his brothers-in-law, Warner McGlamery and Garland Stephenson and on April 24, 2005, by his beloved wife, Evelyn Birdsong Passmore.
Leonard is survived by his sister Jessie Merle Stephenson, his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Sue Passmore, his daughter and son-in-law Mary Sue and Alan Barr, his granddaughter Grace Barr, his sisters-in-law Virginia McCarrey, Ruby Robinson and Lizzie Birdsong, a brother-in-law, Horace Birdsong, and by a host of dearly loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. George Lowe, the caring nurses and staff at Seton Hospital, and Westminster Manor Health Care Center, Judy Harper and special angel Sue Reese for their loving care of Leonard during his final days.
Services will be held in Austin on Saturday morning, July 8th at 10:00 a.m., at the Hyde Park Baptist Church Chapel, 3901 Speedway. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
Visitation will he held on Friday evening, July 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar.

Richard W. Moore
Funeral services for Richard W. Moore, age 62, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the West Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Ishmael and Charles Brumit officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Adrian Wheeler, Jim Martin, Bill Chaney, Mitch Moore, Larry Kandy and Joe Upton serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Holliday, Dr. Lovelace, Nurse Joan and the employees of Stevens Transport and Drivers.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 4, at the funeral home.
Mr. Moore died at 7:30 PM on Saturday July 1, 2006 at the Mesquite Community Hospital.
He was born on June 12, 1944 in Eustace, TX, the son of Mark and Peggy Holt Moore.
He married Debbie Lynn Weatherly on March 16, 1983 in Kaufman, TX, and she survives.
Mr. Moore was employed with Stevens Transport of Mesquite for over 20 years as the Director of Training.
He graduated from Malakoff High school in 1962 and received a BS in Agriculture from Stephen F. Austin University in 1966.
Mr. Moore enjoyed golfing, gardening, flowers, spending time with his grandchildren and tinkering in his work room.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mabank, TX.
He is survived by his wife Debbie Moore of Sulphur Springs, daughters, Dreama Cooper and Mike of Mabank, Rhonda Jones of Tool, TX, Robin Button and Lonnie of Whitney, TX, Summer Jordan of Dallas and Melissa Shelton and Joseph of San Antonio. One brother and sister-in-law Mike Moore and Paula of Crossroads, TX, and sister and brother-in-law Markay Warren and Bill of Palestine, TX. Six grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Cooper, Caitlyn Jones, Kendall and Mason Button and Maci Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

L. Roy Emerson
Funeral services for L. Roy Emerson, 84, of Sulphur Bluff, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 at Sulphur Bluff Baptist Church with the Rev. Edgar Clements and Dr. Cecil McLeod officiating.
Interment followed in Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with Matthew Smith, Lance Smith, Don Patterson, Mike Flippin, Bert Dorner, James K. Bassham, Jason Tubb and Brad Cecil serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Deaton, Dr. Charles Jones, Danny Durham, James Pete Bassham, Delores Bassham, Spencer Hinkle, George Dorner, Charles Sellers, George Bassham, Renee Taylor and Ruby McKinnon.
Mr. Emerson died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at his residence.
L. Roy Emerson was born in Sulphur Bluff, on June 1, 1922, the son of Martin Luther and Verona Moore Emerson.
He married Nancy Lee Rawlinson in Franklin County, on June 28, 1950. She survives.
Mr. Emerson was a retired rancher and dairyman.
He was also a member of Sulphur Bluff Baptist Church.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Other survivors include two sons, Roy Wayne Emerson of DeBerry and Billy Emerson of Sulphur Bluff; two daughters, Nancy Ann Shultz of Tyler and Donna McDaniel of Brookston; two brothers, Glen Emerson of Saltillo, and the Rev. Lee Emerson of Powderly; one sister, Monna McClung of Sulphur Springs; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Roy Emerson and Jerry Don Emerson; one brother, Bud Emerson; two sisters, Velva Emerson and Lou Cunningham; and one great-grandchild, Aaron Edington.
Memorials may be made to the Sulphur Bluff Volunteer Fire Department.
Wilson James Parker
Graveside services for Wilson James Parker, infant son of Eric Parker and Jennifer Holden of Edom, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robbie Caldwell officiating.
Interment followed under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
Wilson James Parker was born and died June 26, 2006 in Sulphur Springs.
Survivors include parents, Eric Parker and Jennifer Holden of Edom; two brothers, Joshua Joiner and Dakota Dillon, both of Edom; and grandparents, Marsha and Jeff Holden of Sulphur Springs, and Bill and Kathy Barfield of Bullard.
Eddie Bruce Ward
Graveside services for Eddie Bruce Ward, 73, of Dike, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 in Conner Cemetery with Shane Carrington officiating.
Mr. Ward’s nephews served as pallbearers.
Mr. Ward died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 at his residence.
He was born in Washita County, Okla., the son of James O. and Jewel Rogers Ward.
He married Nancy Rhodes in Borger, on Aug. 5, 1953. She survives.
Mr. Ward was retired from the retail industry.
He was a member of League Street Church of Christ.
Other survivors include one son, Rodney Ward of Dallas; two daughters, Jeanette Pratz of Taylor and Viviene Bellows of Dike; two brothers, Wayne Ward of Baytown and Barney Ward of Borger; two sisters, Lorene Greer of Huntsville and Billie Jean Feezor of Greenville; and five grandchildren, David Bellows, Josh Bellows, Marvin Bellows, Joseph Ward and Matthew Ward.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Bell; and five brothers, Delbert Ward, James Ward, Troy Ward, Glen Ward and Coy Ward.

Rachel Mitchell

Funeral services for Rachel Mitchell, 78, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, in Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Hoyt Scoggins and Guy Mays officiating.
Interment followed in Greenview Cemetery with Steve Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell, Curtis Buchannan, Chad Bolton, Michael McCullam and Danny Mitchell serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Mitchell died at 11:55 a.m. Friday, June 30, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
Rachel Mitchell was born Sept. 3, 1927, in the Greenview community to Burt and Gussie Chandler McElvy.
She married Rayburn H. Mitchell in Sulphur Springs, on Nov. 15, 1944.
He preceded her in death in 2002.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of New Shirley Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker and a dairy owner and operator.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Curtis Buchannan of Sulphur Springs, and Nancy and Chad Bolton of Sulphur Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sue Mitchell of Sulphur Springs; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Buchannan, Lacie Bolton Fugate, Afton and Cameron Mitchell.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Glenn Mitchell; one granddaughter, Lindsey Bolton; one great-grandson, Noah Fugate; one infant daughter; two sisters, Austine McCallum and Frances Coppedge; and two brothers, Maurice McElvy and Newman McElvy.
