Danny M. Mitchell
Funeral services for Danny M. Mitchell, 55, of Dike, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, in Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lee Emerson and Bro. Ronny Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in Peerless Cemetery with Glenn Wood, Christopher Mitchell, Steven Mitchell, Miles Mitchell, Michael Simpson and Mathew Boekhe serving as pallbearers.
Jerry Simpson and Mike Thurman will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Danny Murell Mitchell was born on Dec. 12, 1950, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Vernie Miles and Geneva Nell Mattingly Mitchell.
He married Judy Diane Cox on April 17, 1979, in Sulphur Springs. She survives.
Mr. Mitchell passed away on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at his residence in Dike.
Mr. Mitchell was a retired truck driver, having been employed by the J.H. Rose Co. for many years.
He was a member of Independence Baptist Church.
Mr. Mitchell served his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Marines.
In remembrance of his service, the Hopkins County Military Coalition will conduct graveside burial honors.
Other survivors include one son, Richard Greer and wife Brandi of Commerce; one daughter, Jennifer Eutzy and husband Michael of Spring; four sisters, Nola Jean Wood of Sulphur Springs, Carrie Compton of Mount Pleasant, and Neva Sanders and Debbie Mitchell, both of Houston; and five brothers, Jack, Keith, Kenneth, Jerry Lee and Billy Joe Mitchell.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and friends.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jimmy Wayne Mitchell.
Tapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jonathan Ross
Funeral services for Jonathan Ross, 20, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006 at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Rudy Ellis officiating.
Interment will follow at Sandfield Cemetery with Randoll Fannin, Michael Larry, Bryan Clayton, Demarcus Banks, Michael Taylor, Darrell Taylor, Adrian Bell and Paul Clayton serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Ross, Sr., Jerry Ross, Jr., Joshua Ross, Carl Smith, Martin Houston and Fred Brewster.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Ross died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006 in Corsicana.
He was born Nov. 1, 1985, in Santa Anna, Calif., the son of Jerry and Rose Marie Johnson Ross.
He graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 2003 and attended Prairie View A&M; University for two years.
He was employed by the United Parcel Service.
Survivors include his father, Jerry Ross of Sulphur Springs; his mother, Rose Marie Ross of San Bernardino, Calif.; one daughter, Aniyah Nicole Ross of Dallas; one sister, Tanya Mayfield of California; and three brothers, Jerry Ross, Jr. of Dallas, Joshua Ross of Sulphur Springs, and Carl Smith, Jr. of Dallas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Douglas Pool
A funeral mass for Douglas Allie Pool, 63, of Garland, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mineola, with Father Efran Nano officiating.
Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m Friday, Aug. 25, at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.
Mr. Pool died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006 at his Garland residence.
Douglas Allie Pool was born on Oct. 5, 1942, in Fort Worth, the son of Walter and Fay Pool.
Mr. Pool attended Eastfield College and Southern Methodist University.
He was employed by Ford Motor Company, Fritz Chemical, Cooper Tire and Industrial Wood Working.
He later started his own business, Joshua Tree Inc., with Freddie Kilcreasase, producing machine parts for the LP gas industry.
He was a "cattle baron" in Sulphur Springs, and had 150 head of cattle he considered pets.
He was an avid "animal lover."
He served in the U.S. Navy as a See Bee during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Sulphur Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Gertrude Pool of Garland; one daughter, Debra Marie Smith of Rockwall; one stepson, Charles Michael Miller of Whitefish Bay, Wisc.; and one stepdaughter, Sharon Lee Sheehan of Rockwall; two sisters, Betty Lou Dubbs and Barbara Ann Shirley, both of Mineola; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Pool was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Roland and Gary Pool.
Memorials may be made to St. Peters Catholic Church in Mineola.
Lily Mae Lee
Funeral services for Lily Mae Lee, 93, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10 am Thursday, August 24, 2006 at Harvey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Brother Fred Lewis and nephew David Brewer officiating.
Burial will follow at the city cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, August 23, at the funeral home in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Lee died on Monday, August 21, 2006 in Sulphur Springs.
She was born November 1, 1912, in Franklin County, the oldest of six children of Luther and May Clark Hunnicutt.
She married Loyd Stephens of Mt. Vernon on July 6, 1958, who preceded her in death.
She later married Henry Lee of Mt. Vernon, on November 7, 1987, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Earl Hunnicutt and Fred Hunnicutt.
After graduating from Mt. Vernon High School, she worked at First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, and worked at First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
While in Mt. Vernon, she worked many years for M.L. Edwards.
Mrs. Lee is survived by sisters, Opal Brewer and Dovie Loyd of Sulphur Springs, and Rosa Moore of Garland.
Stepchildren surviving include Betty Stephens Parks of Kaufman; Lillian Lee Dickerson of Mt. Vernon; Joyce Lee Slaten of Mt. Vernon; Elizabeth Lee Gill of Mont Belvieu; Richard Lee of Mt. Pleasant; and a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Lee was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, where memorials may be made in her memory.
Ray Hartley
Funeral services for Ray Hartley, 85, of Rainbow, formerly of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 with the Rev. Don Caldwell and Daryle, Landy and Alan Humphrey officiating.
A military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Winterfield Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Humphrey, Dale Jones, Randall Smith, Daryle Humphrey, Landy Humphrey, Alan Humphrey, Chevy Humphrey and Clinton Humphrey.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hartley died at 5:03 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006 at his residence.
He was born in Birch Tree, Mo., on April 9, 1921.
He married Jessie Alice Dean. She survives.
Mr. Hartley was retired from the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.
He was awarded two Purple Hearts and three Bronze Stars.
Other survivors include two sons, Donald Humphrey of Rainbow, and Dale Humphrey of Dallas; one daughter, Lois Humphrey Jones of Greenville, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Dorothy 'The Cookie Lady' Adair
Funeral services for Dorothy "The Cookie Lady" Adair, 80, of Saltillo, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, in Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tom Friday and Brother Buck Carr officiating.
Burial will follow in Old Saltillo Cemetery with Dusty Hoskins, Bryan Spillers, Allen Bell, David Bell, Mitch Link and Toby Link serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Adair died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006 at her residence.
Dorothy Adair was born on Feb. 21, 1926, in Longview, the daughter of Myrtle Reese and Judge Tucker.
She married Grady "Mutt" Adair 59 years ago. He survives.
Mrs. Adair was known in her hometown as "The Cookie Lady," thusly named for the home-baked cookies she distributed throughout Franklin County. She was also a member of Weaver Baptist Church.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kathy Link and Mary Largent, both of Saltillo; one son, Roger Adair of Balch Springs; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Howard Tucker.
Mrs. Adair was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jimmy and Wallace Tucker.
Velma A. Dittmar
Funeral services for Velma A. Dittmar, 65, of Commerce, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Commerce, with the Revs. Rodney Williams and Jimmy Lee officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jody Allen, Tommy Allender, Bill McDaniel, Brod Rollins, Lance Shackeford, Nickie Smith, Glendale Tucker, and Craig Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be men from Mt. Zion and Oakland Churches.
Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Dittmar died Aug. 21, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce.
She was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Carmon, Okla., the daughter of William Dean Barber and Viola Pearl Barber.
She married the Rev. Roy Lee Dittmar on Aug. 14, 1962, in Cherokee, Ola. He survives.
Mrs. Dittmar was retired Assistant to the Administrator Director of the Library, where she worked for 32 years, at Texas A&M; University-Commerce.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Red Hatters, KOPS, TOPS, Mt. Zion Ladies Association, and former Secretary to the Director of Technology USE Center (NASA) in Durant, Okla.
Mrs. Dittmar enjoyed canning fruits, vegetables and preserves.
She also loved visiting shut-ins and other people in the community.
She served a pastors wife's duties.
She also enjoyed doing crafts for fund-raisers.
She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 12 and continued for 54 years.
She was a charter member of the U.O.P. (University Office Personnel Association).
Among her honors were Clerk of the Year Award (1996), Professional Achievement Award (1996), 25 Membership Recognition Award from U.O.P.A. (2002), 30-year recognition from Texas A&M; Commerce (Dec. 2004), 1st Place Winner, Division 3 from T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly Club (2005), and recently graduated into K.O.P.S. (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly).
Survivors include three children, Rodney Dittmar and wife Rene' of Dallas, Gordon Dittmar of Greenville, and Ralonda Dittmar of Brea, Calif.; three grandchildren, Randy Dittmar of Lewisville, Amanda Dittmar of Alvarado and Ian Dittmar of Alvarado; one brother, Alvin Barber of Shattuck; and four sisters, Rozella Lingle of Stockton, Mo., Luella Lee of Oletha, Kan., Mildred Moore of Blackwell, Okla. and Lillie Burnidge of Alba, Okla.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Gideon International Association, the Epileptic Association in Dallas, or the Mt. Zion Ladies Association
Hildegard Coleman
Funeral services for Hildegard Coleman, 66, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 in Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with President Jeff Sant, Amber Pridgen and Lillie Carroll officiating.
Interment will follow in Shirley Cemetery with Michael Kraus, Robbie Negron, Mark McCall, Michael Perritano, Ricky Coleman, Johnny Coleman, Curtis Coleman and Phillip Coleman serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Coleman died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 in Sunny Springs Nursing Home.
Hildegard Coleman was born on June 2, 1940, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Carl and Maria Schneider Schubnell.
She married Don Coleman in Ferris, in 1990. He survives.
Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker.
She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Other survivors include one daughter, Heidi Perritano of Plano; one son, Michael Kraus of Plano; one sister, Erika Weigand of Germany; one brother, Horst Steiner of Germany; and one granddaughter, Amber Pridgen.
Memorials can be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
