Arthur Lee Shipp
Funeral services for Arthur Lee Shipp, 79, of Sulphur Springs, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Harmon officiating.
Burial followed at Shook's Chapel Cemetery with Kim Akers, Brian Hanie, Don Bailey, Carlton Sewell, Nathan Otto, and Keith Hanie serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Butch Adams, Cletis Millsap, Ronny Glossup and Walton Ottinger.
Military honors were conducted by the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
Mr. Shipp died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, August 13, 2006 at his home.
He was born on March 18, 1927, in Beaumont, the son of John W. and Lona Chance Shipp.
He married Eva Nell Johnson on June 30, 1973, in Dallas. She survives.
Mr. Shipp enlisted in the United State Navy after graduating from high school.
He served in World War II on the U.S.S. Saginaw Bay C.D. 82 in the South Pacific.
He retired from Southwestern Bell after 35 years in the Special Service Department.
He was a member of the Sulphur Bluff Masonic Lodge 247 and the Eastern Star.
He was active with the Hopkins County Historical Society.
He was also a member of Lake Highland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Nell Shipp; two sons, Van Ray Shipp of Nederland and Alan Keith Hanie of Mesquite; two daughters, Jo Beth Richards of Erath, La., and Sandra Akers of Batavia, Ill.; two sisters, Maurine Bell of DeKalb and Christy Wise of Houston; 10 grandchildren, Van Ray Shipp, II, Michael Ray Shipp, Coby Dewayne Votaw, Brandy Votaw, Brian Keith Hanie, Stacy Ann Hanie, John Akers, Hannah Akers, Will Akers and Zoe Akers; and seven great-grandchildren, Brighton Votaw, Taylor Hanie, Lacey Hines, Morgan and Brooke Fleming, and Tylo and Paris Hanie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Donna Gail Shipp; one son, Arthur Lee Shipp, Jr., on Sept. 18, 2001; one grandson, Michael Shipp, in 2000; and two brothers, Jerry Blair and Dick Shipp.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Arthur Lee Ship to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Helen Ruth Earley Harmon
Helen Ruth Earley Harmon, 80, of Cooper, passed away Monday, October 23, 2006 at her home.
Funeral services were at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 27, 2006 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Randall Scott and Mike Stone officiating. Interment was in the Oaklawn Cemetery.
Family received friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday night at the funeral home.
She was born in Hagansport, Texas, August 17, 1926.
She was the daughter of William and Winnie Mae Henry.
She married John Earley in 1949.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Bryant, John Earley and Joe Harmon, and a daughter, Shirley Earley.
Survivors include: four daughters, Louise Hartgroves - Paris, Ginger Chessher - Charleston, Kay Virgel - Klondike, and Debbie Johnson - DeKalb; three sons, Johnny Earley - Wills Point, Fred Earley - Sachse, and Jimmy Dean Early - Cooper; 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Loyd Henry; sister, Velma McNutt; son-in-law, Dorace Hartroves; grandson, William Hartgroves; and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Johnson.
Sharon Jean Yoak
Sharon Yoak, 60, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006.
She was born May 12, 1946 in Bedford, OH, daughter of the late Ralph Oscar Wyatt and Norma Jean Riley.
She was a member of Rocky Mount Church of Nazarene.
Sharon worked as a registered nurse at Nash General Hospital for five years.
She graduated with her RN degree in 1998 from Nash Community College.,
Sharon was preceded in death by two daughters, Bonnie Collier, and Dawn Snyder; one brother, David Bland; one sister, Pat McKinley; and her step-father, Okey Bland, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, of thirty years, Charles Yoak of the home; two sons, Doug Snyder and wife, Gina of Sulphur Springs, TX, David Snyder and wife Deena of Monongahela, PA; one sister, Judy Bland of Kellogsville, OH; one brother, Okey Bland, Jr. of Conneaut, OH; three grandchildren, Joshua, Catlin, Allison Snyder; honorary grandsons, Steven, Michael, Travis Collier; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, October 27, 2006 11:00 am at Rocky Mount Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Mark Eby officiating.
Burial followed at Battleboro Cemetery.

Marlene Bowser Alexander
Funeral services for Marlene Bowser Alexander, 74, of Dallas, a Sulphur Springs native, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at Golden Gate Funeral Home Chapel on Ledbetter Drive in Dallas.
Mrs. Alexander died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006.
Local survivors include the Godbolt family of Hopkins County.
James W. Adams, Sr.
Funeral services for James W. Adams, Sr. were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Willis Taylor, Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with his nephews serving as pallbearers.
The deacons of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation were held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Adams died on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006.
James W. Adams was born in Hopkins County, on Nov. 3, 1949, to Elow and Essie Adams.
He married his wife, Brenda, on Sept. 17, 1979, in Hopkins County. She survives.
Mr. Adams was a graduate of Sulphur Springs, High School.
He later attended Jarvis Christian College.
He also attended Paris Junior College, where he received a certificate in HVAC.
He served as a deacon and treasurer of Sunday school at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Other survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Shaun Clayton, Cory and Shandis Young, James, Jr. and Jennifer Adams, Sedrick and Brandy Adams, and Curtis and Ashley Adams, all of Sulphur Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Terry Hobdy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alva and Retha Adams of Sulphur Springs, and James and JoAnne Garrett of Dallas; one sister, Yvonne Lee of Dallas; his mother-in-law, Laureen Young of Dallas; 36 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
William Avery Pinion
William Avery Pinion was born on December 11, 1916 in Sulphur Springs, TX, to William Franklin and Mary Emma Simmons Pinion and passed away peacefully in Dallas, TX, on October 21, 2006 with his daughter, Linda Hodge, at his bedside.
Avery graduated from Sulphur Springs High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track.
He served his county in the Air Force during WWII.
He retired from DP&L; (now TXU) in 1978 after 25 yrs of service.
He was a member of White Rock Methodist Church and past member of Coffee Cup Class.
He was a very humble and quiet man who enjoyed playing golf, reading the Bible, gardening and playing Skipbo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Thelma Click Pinion, after 49 years of marriage in September 1989 and second wife, Gladyne Brewster Pinion, in 1998; by daughter, Kay Perry; grandson, Avery Carr; 2 brothers, Oliver and Frank Pinion; 4 sisters, May Arnold, Mattie Deavers, Myrtle Lowe and Mildred Rabun.
He is survived by daughters, Linda Hodge of Dallas, and Judy Carr of Alvin, TX; granddaughters, Lynnette Abbey, Allenia Carr and Wisty Perry; grandsons, Steve Conely and Seth Carr; 4 great-granddaughters and 5 great-grandsons; by Robert Carpenter, nephew, of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Mary Ann Chapman, niece, of Palestine, TX that were like his own children and other nieces and nephews.
We would also like to thank the staff at Signature Pointe on the Lake and Vitas Hospice for the excellent care that they gave Avery in the last year of his life.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30pm, Monday at Restland Funeral Home.
Funeral and burial at Mahoney Methodist Church and Mahoney Cemetery, near Sulphur Springs, TX, on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 2:00PM.

Lois Marie Pitcock Jeter
Graveside services for Lois Marie Pitcock Jeter, 83, of Cooper, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Delta Funeral Home in Cooper.
Mrs. Jeter died Saturday morning, Oct. 21, 2006 at Birchwood Manor.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1923, in Telephone, the daughter of Lon Pitcock and Nora Johnson Pitcock.
She married Hollis Wayne Jeter in October of 1942.
He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1998.
Mrs. Jeter had been a resident of Cooper since 1969.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Jeter of Cumby; two daughters, Nancy Lee Springfield of Cooper and Holly Rodriguez of Ladonia; two brothers, Kenneth Pitcock of Arlington and James Pitcock of Cleburn; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, two brothers and a sister.
Mona Christine (Goggy) Speck
Funeral services for Mona Christine (Goggy) Speck, age 94, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Jones officiating.
Interment will follow at Gafford Chapel Cemetery, with Luke Gibson, Jake Gibson, Carey Gibson, Robert Newsome, Gary Spraggins and Max Drummond serving as pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Crusaders Sunday School Class at Wesley United Methodist Church.
There will be no formal visitation.
Mona Christine (Goggy) Speck passed away at 10:40 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2006, at Carriage House Manor.
She was born on August 31, 1912, in Dalby Springs, the daughter of Rev. T. D. and Sarah McCrary.
She married Everette L. Seale in 1931. He preceded her in death in 1948.
She married Sidney L. Speck in 1950.
He preceded her in death in 1983.
She was an avid and accomplished seamstress and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
She taught 3rd grade at Range Elementary School in Mesquite, and following retirement moved to Hopkins County, in 1973 and served as substitute teacher in the Sulphur Springs School District.
Survivors include: son, Everette L. Seale, Jr. and wife, Gracejane, of New Braunfels; daughter, Jo Evelyn Watts and husband, Bill, of Sulphur Springs; three grandchildren, Sara Gibson of Sulphur Springs, Richard Seale of San Antonio, Vicki Seale of Dallas; four great-grandchildren, Luke Aaron Gibson of Lewisville, Jake William Gibson of Sulphur Springs, Stephanie Ellane Seale and Brandon Lewis Seale of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by grandson, Dr. William L. (Bud) Watts, in 1995.
Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church and/or The Gideons International Memorial Bible Placement Service, P.O. Box 1155, Sulphur Springs, TX.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Florence O. Elliott
Funeral services for Florence Elliott, 80, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 in West Oaks Funeral Chapel.
Interment will be held in Hall Cemetery in Lone Oak.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Elliott died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006.
Florence Elliott was born in Point, on Feb. 17, 1926, the daughter of William and Ruby Hurst.
They preceded her in death.
She married B.R. “Bob” Elliott. He survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Cathy A. Stracener; two brothers, Billy and Johnny Hurst; and two grandchildren, William and Leeman Stracener.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Freddy Hurst and Sammy Hurst.
Leah Ann Woodard
Graveside services for Leah Woodard, 52, of Denton, formerly of Sulphur Springs, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 in Restlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Marisa McNeil, chaplain of Denton State School, officiating.
Leah Ann Woodard died on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 at Denton Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Hunt County on April 28, 1954, to Bobby Joe and Wanda June Woodard. They preceded her in death.
Survivors include one brother, Bobby Joe Woodard; her legal guardian, Dimple McPherson; and one sister-in-law, Tammy Woodard, all of Sulphur Springs.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jerri Elaine Woodard.
