Pat Richard
PORT ARTHUR - Pat Richard, 62, of Port Arthur, Texas died Friday, October 13, 2006 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Pat was born on April 5, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to Wilbur Richard and Leora Savoy Richard. He was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was the owner and floral designer of Rose Ridge Florist. A Mass 0f Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Msgr. Kenneth Greig officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service conducted at 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Survivors include his sisters, Helen Daily of Country Club Estates and Sharon Barnhill of Port Arthur; also his friend, Paul Castaneda of Port Arthur.
Monsignor Francis H. Burlton
BEAUMONT - Monsignor Francis H. Burlton, pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Beaumont, died Friday, October 13, 2006. He was 76. A native of Beaumont, and graduate of St. Anthony School, he attended St. Mary's Seminary in LaPorte and North American College in Rome, where he was awarded the Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Francis Burlton was ordained March 13, 1954, in Rome by Archbishop Francis Beretti at the Basilica of St. John Lateran for the Diocese of Galveston. Following his ordination, he served as associate pastor at Assumption Church in Houston from August 1954 until March 1965, St. Catherine Church in Port Arthur from March 1965 until August 1966 and St. Joseph Church in Beaumont from August 1966 until June 1972. In September, 1966, he was appointed the first Chancellor of the Diocese of Beaumont, until May 1976 when he was appointed as administrator of St. Mary's in Orange. On December 6, 1976, he was conferred the papal honor of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness Pope Paul VI. In August 1977 he became associate pastor of St. Mary's in Port Arthur, and in June 1978 was the founding pastor of St. Francis of Assisi in Orange. Since June 1990, he has been pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Beaumont. In addition, he held several other diocesan positions, including Diocesan Consultor, Promoter of Justice for the Tribunal, Priests' Personnel Board, and Episcopal Vicar for the Central Vicariate. Msgr. Burlton said what he enjoyed most about being a priest was serving a variety of people and celebrating the sacraments, especially the Mass. He was considered an expert railroad historian and enjoyed building model trains. Survivors include his brothers, Robert Alfred Burlton and his wife Joyce of Wichita Falls, Texas and Dr. Rogers Christopher Burlton and his wife Camille of Rockville, Maryland; and four nieces and nephews. Burlton's soul - St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica (Public is welcome)10:00 a.m. - Mass of Christian Burial - St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. Lillian Ann Lane Watts
Born in Vincennes, Indiana to Burl and Ada Lane on April 14, 1928, Lillian Watts passed away on October 15, 2006 in Bryan, Texas. She was educated at St. Rose Academy in Vincennes and graduated from St. Mary's Nursing School in Evansville, Indiana in 1949. She did specialty nursing at the University of Indiana and her training in psychiatry at St. Vincent's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. While at the University of Indiana Medical Center in Indianapolis, Lillian met her future husband, Fenwick "Tee" Watts. They were marriage on December 27, 1949. She worked at the Veterans Affairs and Hermann Hospitals in Houston while her husband finished medical school. They eventually settled in Groves, Texas where they raised three children. Lillian was a member of the Delpheon Club, the Port Arthur Historical Society, the Jefferson County Historical Society, Captain William Sanders Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Christian Women's Club, and attended many Power Squadron functions for over thirty years as a spouse. Lillian was an avid reader and enjoyed history, genealogy, needlework, collecting antiques and was widely traveled. For a period of time, she returned to psychiatric nursing at Park Place Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. She was the owner of Quaintiques, an antique store in downtown Groves. While in high school, she sang with a band and recorded a record. Lillian was a member of the USO at George Field in llinois during the World War II. She was a member of the choir in the Presbyterian Church. She was a coloratura soprano and took voice lessons for many years. Lillian is survived by her husband of 56 years, Fenwick L. Watts, M.D., of Bryan, Texas; daughter, Jana L. Swart, Ph.D. and husband, William; and four grandsons, Will, Jack, Stephen and Hugh of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Vanessa Lane Watts; and granddaughter, Leah of Bryan, Texas; son, Jeb P. Watts and wife, Eva; and grandson, Jeb L. Watts of Nederland, Texas; and sister, Linda Lane Tromley; brother-in-law, Chris of Champagne, Illinois. A memorial service will be held at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Neil Lindley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Port Arthur Historical Society in care of President Sam Monroe, Lamar State College, P.O. Box 310, Port Arthur, TX 77641.
