Leona Louise Lemelle Syers

PORT ARTHUR - Mrs. Leona Louise Lemelle Syers was born in Sunset, Louisiana on October 23, 1921 to the union of Leo Lemelle and Celia Adams. She departed this life Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Christus St. Mary Dubuis Hospital.
Mrs. Syers moved to Houston, Texas as a young child and was reared by her aunt and uncle: Ida and Mack Adams. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatly High School and was an honor student and member of the debating team.
She met and marriage John Syers, Sr. in Houston on June 24, 1939. To this union, six children were born. Mrs. Syers was a faithful member in the schools and community for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, John Syers, Sr.; youngest son: Aaron A. Syers, 2 brothers, 4 sisters.
Survivors: 2 sons: John Syers, Jr. Frederick C. Syers; 3 daughters: Delores Jean Gunner, Vernita Louise Gunner, Phyllis Marie Syers; son in law Walter Gunner, daughter-in-law: Gwendolyn Syers; brothers: Michael Lemelle and Calvin Lemelle; sisters: Luginia Lemelle and Victoria Eaglin (George); 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; lifelong friend and neighbor: Mrs. Bell Walters and many loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, 2007 at 1p.m. at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas. With a visitation from 11a.m. to service time. With Gabriel Funeral Home in charge.

Mary Joubert

PORT ARTHUR - Mary Joubert, 80 years old, of Port Arthur, Texas passed peacefully Thursday, at 10:00 p.m. in her home where she resided. She was born October 9, 1926 in Elton, Louisiana. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Mrs. Joubert was a member of Fran's Family Trailriders.
She is survived by four daughters, two sons, eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Mary Joubert was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, her parentS, her brother and sister.
Her wake will be 6 pm - 9 pm Wednesday, July 18th at Gabriel Funeral Home. Viewing of the body will be Thursday, July 19th from 9 am - 10:30 am also at Gabriel Funeral Home, proceeding her service at St. James Catholic Church on Thursday, July 19th at 11:00 a.m.

Dean W. Reitz

GROVES - Dean W. Reitz, 88, of Groves, Texas died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at his home.
Dean was born on July 19, 1918 in Coffeeville, Kansas to Dean G. Reitz and Ferne Steel Reitz. He was a resident of Groves for 60 years and member of First Christian Church. He retired from Allstate Insurance after 35 years of service. He was a flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
A memorial services will be at 10:0 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2007 at First Christian Church in Port Arthur, Texas with Reverend Scott Wallace officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ann Reitz of Groves, Texas; son, Donald Dean Reitz and wife, Gail of Denver, Colorado; step-sons, Paul Huff and wife, Cindy of Center, Texas, Mike Huff and wife, Gayla of Mansfield, Louisiana, Allen Huff of Beaumont, Texas; step-daughter, Leah Svob and husband, Mike of Bay City, Texas; and eleven grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.
Friends wishing may send memorial contributions to: American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or the American Kidney Foundation.

Ted Williams

BRIDGE CITY - Ted Williams, 86, of Bridge City, Texas died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas.
Ted was born on December 11, 1920 in Oklahoma. He was a longtime area resident and was formerly of Sabine Pass. He was a retired contractor and also a disabled veteran o- World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas.
Ted is survived by his wife, Nellwin B. Williams of Bridge City, Texas; a daughter and eight step-children; numerous step - grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Wayne Melancon

BEAUMONT - Wayne Melancon, 53, of Beaumont passed away Friday July 13, 2007 at Pine Forest Nursing Home in Beaumont. He was born February 15, 1954 in Port Arthur to Edmond and Adeline Melancon. Wayne lived in Port Arthur most of his life and was a Marine Captain and Welder.
There will be a Memorial service for Wayne at 4 PM Friday July 20, 2007 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home.
Wayne is preceded in death by his father Edmond Melancon. He is survived by his mother Adeline Melancon, children Shawn Melancon, Sabre Melancon, and Bridget Melancon all of Port Arthur, also survived by 3 grandchildren.

Hazel Couder Hunt

NEDERLAND - Hazel Couder Hunt, 75, of Nederland passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at her residence. Funeral services will be 10am, Friday, August 17, 2007 at Broussard's Mortuary in Nederland with Reverend J.C. Coon officiating. Internet will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of the family and friends will be 5-8pm with a rosary to be recited at 6pm at the mortuary.
Mrs. Hunt was a native of Stowell and has lived all her life in the Nederland area. She enjoyed writing poetry, singing and taking care of her plants.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Joseph Couder in 1978, two daughters, Theresa Ann Couder, Doris Ann Couder and her parents Cecile and Slim Prejean.
Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband Murphy Hunt of Nederland, seven children, fourteen step-children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

George Edward Whitrock

BRIDGE CITY - George Edward Whitrock, 79, of Bridge City, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at his residence.
A memorial service will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2007, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Bridge City. Reverend Paul Zoch will officiate.
A time of visitation will precede the service on Sunday at the church from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Mr. Whitrock was born
April 2, 1928, in Wilgus, OH, to George Oscar Whitrock and Nellie Massie Whitrock. Mr. Whitrock served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from DuPont Sabine Riverworks after 28 years. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Fern Callicoat and Daisy Fox and parents, George and Nellie Whitrock. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; son, Martin Edward Whitrock and wife Darnella of Katy, Daughters, Valerie Whitrock Richter and husband Doug and Sherry E. Martz of Bridge City; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and sister, Ruth Covell of Springfield, OH. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Southeast Texas Hospice, St. Mark Lutheran Church and American Cancer Society.800 Highland, Bridge City, TX 77611.
