Jimmie Louis Captain, Sr.
PORT ARTHUR - Jimmie L. Captain, Sr., 64, of Port Arthur, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2008.
Services will be conducted on Saturday, February 9th at 2:00 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Kurt Washington officiating. Viewing will be from 12:00 until time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Jimmie was born August 2, 1943 to the late Isaiah and Amelia Captain in Kinder, Louisiana. Later in life he moved to Oakland, California where the Lord blessed him and his wife, Mary with three beautiful children: Marlene, Darlene and Jimmie, Jr. After several years of living in California, the family moved to Port Arthur, Texas where he was employed by Texaco Refinery. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaiah and Amelia; two brothers, Elijah and Jack; and one sister, Sallie. He leaves to cherish his precious memories to his children, Marlene Petry (Roosevelt), Darlene Sinegal, and Jimmie Captain Jr.; his sisters, Dora Smith, Atilee Captain and Irene Evans; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary Lee Veazie
Mary Lee Veazie, 86, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Southeast Texas Medical Center.
She was born in Spurger, Texas on September 29, 1921 to the late Charlie and Gussie (Arline) Wimble. Sis Mary Lee was a resident of Port Arthur for 56 years. She was an active member of St. Marks Baptist Church and served in a number of positions including the choir, missionary society, and deaconess.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. and services will start at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Marks Baptist Church and burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Port Arthur, Texas with Rev. Robert L. Perry Officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Gussie Wimbley; brothers, Oscar C. Wimbley, Jessie Jeffcoat Wimbley, and Curtis James Wimbley; sisters, Verneice Smiles and Geneva Hughes.
Mary Lee is survived by her two sisters, Daisy Redd, Rosa Lee Southwell of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Jeremiah Wimbley of Beaumont, Texas; one sister-in-law, Celestine Wimbley of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Mary Ann Veazie of Port Arthur, Texas; son, Albert (Rosalene) Frazier of Port Arthur, Texas; five grandchildren, Claudia Jones, Albert Frazier, Jr., Jeremy Frazier, Tiarra Bob, Joshua Francis; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great - great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other devoted relatives and dear and special friends.
Franklin D. Tippett
Franklin D. Tippett, 75, of Kirbyville, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Faye Tippett; a sister, Betty Lou Bevil; three children, Linda Tippett, Barbara Tippett Johnson, Don Allen Tippett and wife Lesa; four grandchildren, Delany Johnson, Seth Allen Tippett, Libbie Tippett, and Bryce Andrew Tippett.
He was born in Call, TX on December 31, 1932. He graduated in 1952 from the School for the Deaf in Austin, TX. he resided in Port Arthur and Nederland for many years, before returning to Kirbyville. He worked 56 years as a machinist, beginning his career with Standard Brass in Port Arthur, then at Elliott's Machine Shop in Groves. For the past 24 years, he worked as Precision Enterprise, Inc. in Woodville, as a machinist and inspector. He was active throughout his life in various organizations and activities to improve the lives of other people who are deaf. In the 1970's, he was instrumental in getting used teletypewriter machines form SWBell and the Pioneers, which he then repaired and modified them to be used for telephone communication by Southeast Texans who were deaf. He held various officer positions in Southeast Texas Association of the Deaf. He was a member of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, at Call Junction Baptist Church with burial at Trout Creek Cemetery under the direction of Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Visitation will be Friday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Carol Ann Curran
PORT NECHES - Carol Ann Curran, 80, of Port Neches, Texas died Sunday, February 3, 2008 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
Carol was born October 30, l927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Hubert King Jackson and Dorothy Specht Jackson. She graduated from Principia High School in l945, then attended Washington University in St. Louis from l945-l947.
She also attended Port Arthur College from l967-l969. She was an area resident for 49 years and attended First United Methodist Church of Groves. She was also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. A Memorial Service will be at ll:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008 at First United Methodist Church of Groves with Reverend Alan Van Hooser and Reverend Robert Flowers officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Survivors include her sons, Stephen L. Curran and wife, Susan of Port Neches, Texas, William Deane Curran, II and wife, Karen of Austin, Texas; brother, Parker Jackson and wife, Joni of Lompoc, California; grandchildren, Justin Deane Curran and Malissa Hamblett of Port Neches, Texas, Kara Elizabeth Curran of Georgtown, Texas, Alexandra B. Curran and Casey L. Curran both of Austin, Texas.
Doris Marie Simon Leviege
Doris Marie Simon Leviege, 83, a lifelong resident of Port Arthur went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2008 at her home after an extended illness. She was born in Port Arthur to the late Freeman and Osburk Simon on December 16, 1924. She accepted Christ in her life at a very young age and was a lifelong member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church until her health failed. Through the years she served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, Principal of Vacation Bible School, and was a devoted member of the Naomi (Mission) Circle.
Doris received her education in Port Arthur school, graduating from Lincoln High School. She also completed her real estate courses at Lamar University Port Arthur and became a licensed realtor for the State of Texas and practiced during the 1980's and 1990's. She worked in the Port Arthur school district with 24 years of service. During that time, she was a census enumerator, worked at the Bob Hope Center (formerly Hughen School) and Franklin Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Irben Leviege, Sr.; her parents, Freeman and Osburk W. Simon; her brothers, Chester Lee Simon, Vernon Louis Simon, and Freeman Simon, Jr. and son-in-law, Fletcher Earles.
Embracing her life and memories are her sister, Wilma Jean Johnson (Raymond C. Johnson) of Port Arthur; four sons, Dr. Vernon Oliver Leviege of Texas City, Irben Leviege, Jr. of Los Angeles, California, Ronnie Leviege of Houston, Roman Mark Leviege of Port Arthur; one daughter, Linda Earles of Gardena, California; three sister-in-law, Alice Simon Ridgle and Helen Williams of Port Arthur, and Annie Simon of Canton, Ohio; her beloved daughters- in-law, Judith Leviege of Santa Ana, California and Pamela Leviege of Port Arthur; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; extended family, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Hill; many nieces; nephews, several loving caregivers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lola Defee Harvill
NEDERLAND - Lola Defee Harvill, 99, of Nederland passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in Port Arthur. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Broussard's in Nederland with Reverend Will Agy officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Broussard's in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at the mortuary.
Mrs. Harvill was a resident of Nederland since 1922, a member of Mid-County Baptist Church and a loving homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis M. Harvill and son, Joe Marion Harvill. Surviving are, son; Jimmy Harvill and wife Donna of Nederland, daughters; Jane Brackin of Nederland, Exa Dana Fountain and husband Sam of Nederland, Shirley Chandler and husband Harold of Rogersville, AL, Patricia Smith and husband Robert of Nederland, Wanda Colville and husband Buddy of Nederland, Joyce Poss and husband James of Bronson and Sue Perkins of Nederland. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Jeanne Sue "Nanny" Webb
PORT ARTHUR - Jeanne Sue "Nanny" Webb, 57, of Port Arthur passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after a nine month battle with lung cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Cremation will take place at Wilbert Crematorium in Beaumont. Jeanne was born on July 31, 1950, in Port Arthur, Texas to Lydia Marie Hogg Duplantis and Guy Ray Duplantis. She had lived in Port Arthur all of her life and was employed at Transit Mix as a yard manager. Jeanne loved to play golf, loved to remodel and was generally considered a "handy-woman" tinkering with things that needed to be fixed around the house. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed dearly.
Survivors include her son, Lawrence Myers and wife Lillian of Port Neches; brothers and sisters, James Duplantis of Houston, Jerry Duplantis, Tim Duplantis and Betty Achord all of Port Arthur, Sharon Manuel of China, Jack Duplantis of Port Arthur and Jan Chance of Groves; grandson, Lucas Myers of Port Neches. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Gale Webb.
Myrtle Marie Duval
BRIDGE CITY - Myrtle Marie Duval, 83, of Bridge City, passed away, Thursday, February 7, 2008, at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Reverend Jim McClintock to officiate. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Bridge City. Myrtle was born March 15, 1924, in Port Arthur to Adolph and Annette (Landry) Courtois. Mrs. Duval was a homemaker and a member of the Legion of Mary and of St. Henry's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony "Tony" Duval, son, Ronnie Duval and grandson, Scott Duval.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jack Duval and wife Janice of Bridge City, Albert Duval and wife Jacquie of Port Arthur, Robert Duval and wife Diana of Nederland, Linda Clark and husband Jim of Bridge City and Dennis Duval and wife Rhonda also of Bridge City; grandchildren, Gilbert Morvant, Becky Jones, Missy Stephenson, Tammy Sonnier, Bernie Montgomery, Vanessa Ancelot, Dennis Anthony Duval, David Duval, Silver Duval, Sami Duval, Megan LeBlanc, Katie Richard, James Duval, Lucas Duval, Johanna Strother, Joel Duval, Jason Duval, Mandy Cook, Michael Robinson and Jamie Clark; thirty four great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Cleere of Huntsville, AL and brother, Murphy Courtois and wife Dot of Bogalusa, LA.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Duval, Lucas Duval, Gilbert Morvant, Josh Duval, Dennis A. Duval and Chris Franklin. Honorary pallbearer will be Jamie Clark.
