Betty Cotton

GROVES - Betty Cotton, 70, of Groves, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006 at her residence in Groves.
A Memorial service will be Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 4:00 P.M., Broussard's Chapel, Nederland with Dr. Phil Sigman officiating. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 until the time of service.
A native of Pitkin, Louisiana, and lifelong resident of Groves, Mrs. Cotton was a real estate agent and a member of Central Baptist Church in Port Arthur. She took great pleasure and joy in helping and assisting others.
Mrs. Cotton is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Richard Cotton of Groves; and one brother, James A. Jackson and his wife, Patsy Lou of Texas City, Texas.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 755 South 11th Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

John C. Romero, Sr.

PORT ARTHUR - John C. Romero, Sr., 80, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2006 in Port Arthur. He was a native of New Iberia, Louisiana, born on September 15, 1925 to parents Raoul Romero and Anna Mae Louviere Romero. John (better known to his family and friends as "Pee Wee") was owner of Romero's Glass Co., since 1961. He retired in 1999 and left the company in the hands of his wife, sons, and nephew. He loved hunting, fishing, and the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Julie Ann Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rose Romero; sons; Clifford Romero and his wife Becky, Gary Romero, John C. Romero, Jr. and his wife Amanda: daughters, Linda Romero, Mona Doyle and her husband Dan, Cheryl Kahclamat and her husband Justin, fifteen grandchildren and twenty two great- grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers; Allen Romero, Lester Romero, and Noah Romero; sisters: Mae Dartez, Olive Dartez and Evelyn Kirby.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home, with Rev. Anthony Moozhikuzhy officiating. A burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Lonnie Thomas

PORT ARTHUR - Lonnie Thomas of Port Arthur, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas. a native of Logansport, Louisiana, he was a resident of Port Arthur for 47 years and was employed by Neches Butane Refinery. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lila Sampson and Andrew Thomas: wife Theresa Whitley Thomas; four brothers and four sisters.
He was survived by four daughters, Gloria J. Watson, (Gerald), Beverly A. Thomas, Darlene McClain (Raymond), Arlene Thomas; one brother, Moses L. Stugon; one special daughter, Sabrina Johnson; all of Port Arthur, TX; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A wake is scheduled from 6p.m. until 9p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service is scheduled for 11a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.

Mary Holladay

Mary Holladay, 85, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away July 10, 2007 at Cedarwood Healthcare Center in Colorado Springs. She was born October 24, 1921 in Port Arthur to Whitney and Edaize Domingue. Mary lived in Port Arthur until moving to Colorado Springs in October of 2005. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Port Arthur, a volunteer for the Museum of the Gulf Coast, active in the Knife and Fork Club and other local charities and organizations. A gathering of friends and family will be Sunday July 15, 2007 from 5-7 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2 PM Monday July 16, 2007 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Weldon N. Holladay, Brother Glaston Domingue, and sister Ruby Bowden. She is survived by her son Jack Holladay and his wife Louise Holladay of Colorado Springs, CO, Granddaughters Denise Holladay Damico of Tijeras, NM, Bonnie Holladay of Boulder, CO, and Sister Dorothy Sheppard of Groves, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Port Arthur at 3131 South Park Drive, Port Arthur, Texas 77640, or the Museum of the Gulf Coast at 700 Proctor Street, Port Arthur, Texas 77640.

Mary Lou Benoit Tremonte

PORT ARTHUR - Mary Lou Benoit Tremonte, 77, of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at her home. She was born on August 16, 1929, in Port Arthur. Mary Lou graduated salutatorian from St. Mary's High School in 1948. Upon graduating she declined a scholarship to attend college and remained in Port Arthur to work at Ellerbee Brothers. She marriage Anthony (Tony) Tremonte. A life long resident of Port Arthur, Mary Lou and her husband of 57 years raised their family of nine. She was also a loving and devoted grandmother of eleven, all of whom enjoyed a warm and welcoming home when visiting. Mary Lou took great joy in listening to music, in reading books and in gardening.
Mary Lou will always be remembered for her unbending faith, her generous heart, and her strong will. Above all, she will be remembered for her belief in family. She will be sadly missed.
Mary Lou is survived by her son Craig Tremonte of Galveston, Texas; her daughters, Cynthia White and husband Rick of Temple, Texas; Charlotte Greer and husband John of Bellaire, Texas; Colleen Tremonte and husband Don Lloyd of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Catherine Genuardi and husband Frank of Nederland, Texas; Connie Meves and husband Robert of Houston, Texas; Carenz Bodin and husband Kent of Roundrock, Texas; and Clare Bodin and husband Guy of Groves, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Alicia White, Sarah Clark, Jennifer Young, Christopher and Elizabeth Genuardi, Johnathan and Megan Greer, Mathew Bodin, Andrew Bodin and Zachary and Jacob Meves. Mary Lou is also survived by her sister Ann Marceaux and her husband Floyd.
Mrs. Tremonte is preceded in death by her husband Anthony, their daughter Christie Teresa Tremonte; and parents Louis and Odile Benoit. A rosary service is planned for Friday, July 13, 2007, at Broussard's in Nederland, Texas at 6:00p.m. in the evening. A Mass of Christian Burial Rite will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 11:00a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School in chamberlain South Dakota.

Lenery J. Landry

KOUNTZE - Lenery J. Landry, 70, of Kountze died peacefully at home on July 17, 2006.
A gathering of family and friends will be 12:30 pm Sunday, July 23, 2006 with the memorial service being held at 2:00 pm at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.
Lenery is survived by his daughter, Rose Mullins English and husband John of Kountze; his son Jeff Landry and wife Melissa of Groves; his brother Wilson J. Landry and wife Gloria of Warren; six grandchildren and one nephew.

Cynthia Fay Socia

GROVES - Cynthia Fay Socia, 43 of Groves, died Monday, July 17, 2006 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Broussard's in Nederland with David Edwards officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
Cynthia was a native of Houston and has lived in Groves for forty years. Mrs. Socia was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Paul Socia; mother, Faye Ward Fuller; sister, Brenda Ranee Binagia; grandmother, Lillian Fuller; and her granddaughter, Lillian Socia.
She is survived by her husband Frank Socia of Groves; son, Frankie Socia II and wife Jessica of Groves; father; Hollie Fuller of Shelbyville; mother-in-law, Virginia Socia of Groves; step- mother, Connie Fuller of Shelbyville; two brothers, Lynn Fuller and Joseph Fuller both of Shelbyville; step-brother, Allen Holmes of Shelbyville; three step-sisters, Berinda Wilburn and husband Ronald of Shelbyville, Cammie Anthony and husband Allen of Thomasville, GA, and Kerri Pingleton of Perryton, Texas.

John M. Britain, Jr.

GROVES - John M. Britain, Jr., 90, of Groves, Texas died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.
John was born on November 4, 1915 in Coryell City, Texas to John M. Britain, Sr. and Maude Ellen Edwards Britain. He was a resident of Groves for over 50 years and was a longtime member of Groves First United Methodist Church. He retired from Gulf Oil after 35 years of service as a senior accounting clerk. He was a member of Port Arthur Masonic Lodge #1264. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Reverend Alan Van Hooser officiating. A Masonic Graveside Services will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park conducted by Port Arthur Masonic Lodge #1264. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Frances N. Britain. Survivors include his three sons, John M. Britain, III and wife, Tonia of Winter Park, Florida, Charles D. Britain and wife, Eudora of Nederland, Texas, Larry M. Britain and wife, Hallie of Sour Lake, Texas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
