Tammie Jean Pitre

GROVES - Tammie Jean Pitre, 28, of Groves, Texas died Monday, July 30, 2007. Tammie was born on January 24, 1979 in Nederland, Texas to Jeff "Pete" Sanders and Vonnie Fulton Sanders. She was a lifelong area resident and homemaker.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Pitre of Groves; parents, Pete and Vonnie Sanders of Groves; daughter, Vonnie Pitre of Groves; son, Zachary Pitre of Groves; brother, Michael Sanders of Nederland; mother-in-law, Mary Pitre of Port Neches; grandmother, Sadie Budwine; uncles, Billy Sanders, Kevin Sanders, Michael Fulton and Brian Fulton; aunt, Diane Sanders, brother-in-law, Joey Pitre; and sister-in-law, Tricia Pitre.

Elizabeth McGee Bell

WOODVILLE - Elizabeth McGee Bell, 91, of Woodville, formerly of Port Arthur, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007, at the Country Care Plex Nursing Home in Giddings.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the funeral home.
Elizabeth McGee was born on July 11, 1916, in Palmetto, Louisiana to her parents, Lydia Soileau McGee and John McGee, Sr. She had lived in the Port Arthur area for most of her life until 1982 when she moved to Woodville, Texas. She ran a Texaco Service station on Gulfway Drive for twelve years.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ann Schmidt of Paige, Texas; granddaughters, Debbie Holievina and Tammie Holievina; sister, Lillie McGee Broussard of Winnie. Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bell.

Isabell Clayton

Isabell Clayton, 97, of Port Arthur Texas died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Oaks of Beaumont. She was a native of Lafayette, Louisiana and a resident of Port Arthur for over 70 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart- St. Mary’s Parish Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart-St. Mary’s Parish Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Sampson Etim, MSP, officiating. The viewing will begin at 8 a.m. at the Church. Burial will follow In Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Survivors include her son Michael Clayton of Lake Charles, Louisiana, her daughter Stephanie Clayton Nero of Missouri City, Texas, a sister Dolores W. Riley of Lafayette, Louisiana, a God-child Jena Price of Rancho Cucamonga, California, seven grandchildren, Michael Clayton, Melanie Clayton Hill, James Clayton, Carlin Thomas, Don J. Nero, Malcolm Clayton and Jasmine Watson; and a host of relatives and friends.

John Stephen Dowden

John Stephen Dowden, 64, passed away August 6th, 2007 at the Dubuis Hospital of Christus St. Mary's in Port Arthur. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Dowden and parents Charley and Carrie Dowden and siblings Charlie B., Carrie, and Bob Dowden. He is survived by children James, Diana Rose, and John Patrick, and their children Macy, Zachary, Matthew, Nicolas, Stephen, Drew, and Tyler. From his marriage to Dottie, he is survived by step-children Jim, Diane, Karen, Susan, and Mary and many loving grandchildren and great - grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Mary Beatrice Smith, Keenon Dowden, Letha and Clarence Powell, Leazer Dowden, Melba Peterson, and Dixie and Walter Tucker and many, many loving nieces and nephews. Some of his closest friends in the later years of his life were Kathy Newman and Ron Huebel, who worked with him at Prime Electric in Port Arthur.
John was born in a small home in rural Nederland, TX in October of 1942. He was the youngest of ten siblings. He lived in the Nederland area throughout his youth until joining the U.S. Navy in 1961. He traveled the world as a non - commissioned Naval officer until his honorable discharge in 1964. Following his time in the Navy, John's career was spent as a well-respected electrical engineer working for several companies in the Southeast Texas region.
In the last months of his life, John was lovingly cared for by his sister, Dixie and brother-in-law, Walter. Their gracious and generous gift shall not be forgotten by all those who loved John epically his children.
A soft-spoken man, John was known for his exceptionally calm demeanor even in difficult times. He was known as a remarkably kind and intelligent man and was well-respected among his peers both in his profession and in the community. John's personal interests included fishing, hunting, and reading. He was a talented guitar player and painter, and greatly enjoyed playing music on his squeeze-box for his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
Services for John will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, TX 77627 beginning Wednesday morning, August 8th at 10:00 AM. Following services at Heritage, a procession will move to Memory Gardens Cemetery on Memorial Highway (Highway 69).

Betty Lou Goines

PORT ARTHUR - Betty Lou Goines, 61, of Port Arthur, Texas died Friday, August 3, 2007 at her residence with her family by her side.
Betty was born May 7, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved to Southeast Texas in 1992 with her family, and became a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Nederland. She worked as a lift truck operator for Kenner Toys with 25 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Goines of Port Arthur; two daughters, Joyce Gibson of Port Arthur, and Deborah Delhomme and husband Ray of Groves; grandchildren, Eugena Phelps and husband Murray, Ashlei and Gregory McKinney; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, and Emily Mckee, Cameron Phelps, and soon to be Rachel LouAnn McKinney. She was preceded in death by two of her grandchildren, Jennifer Doyle and Shane Weghorn.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with Reverend Patrick Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Locket Johnson

PORT ARTHUR - Jacqueline "Jackie" Locket Johnson, 41, of Port Arthur, went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 4, 2007 with her family by her side at St. Mary Hospital.
She was born June 7, 1966 in Port Arthur, TX to Sgt. Robert Locket, Jr. and Barbara Payne. Jackie was a 1984 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Sgt. Robert Locket, Jr.
She is survived by her loving parents, Alfred and Barbara Payne Smith; grandmother, Doris Payne; 3 sons, Richard January, Robert Johnson and Roderick Rucker; brothers, Frederick Locket (Rosalyn), Derrick Locket (Melanie), Alfred Smith, Jr.; sister, Allachawn Francis (Joe); a host of nieces and nephews, husband, Michael Johnson.
A Christian Service will be celebrated Thursday, August 9, 2007, 1:00 P.M. at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Walter D. Allen, Sr., officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. until service time. Hannah Funeral Home in charge.

Stella Marie Ledet

PORT ARTHUR - Stella Marie Ledet of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Cypress Glen East Nursing Home at the age of 88. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on December 17, 1918 to Lelia and Charles Simon. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. at Clayton Thompson. Funeral service will be on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Rev. T. R. Blanco, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Ledet and her brothers, Leo and Swell Simon.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sue Carter of Port Arthur, Texas, her granddaughters, Ashley Carter of Houston, Texas and Jessica Carter of Nederland, Texas.
She is also survived by her sister, Edna Sandifer of Port Arthur, Texas, her brothers, Stanley Simon of Colmesneil, Texas, Charlie Simon of Baytown, Texas and Abner Simon of Richmond, Virginia as well as several nieces and nephews.
